  1. I'm just not built for any effective fighting. I'm sure I'd take a hard L against a goose or ferret. Can't think of many medium to large animals that aren't capable of inflicting some solid damage. Maybe a sloth?
  2. Visual look pretty. Stuff go boom real nice. Me want. Tbf the other way to look at it is we got one of the games a year early
  3. It seemed very likely we'd get them in the third film. I can't think of any reason why not other than Sony, though I didn't expect to see the Dafoe reprise his role. I just hope the Goblin costume in this is inspired by the test footage of the original instead of the power ranger one.
  4. Tbf isn't the same true of RE4? The most original thing about it was maybe the contextual action button (not sure or not if another game had it first) but the over the shoulder camera was already done in Splinter Cell, the aiming was kinda lifted from MGS2, the QTEs from Shenmue, etc.
  5. The idea that anyone wouldn't think Gears meets criteria of enjoyable digital junk food but still likes most other AAA action games is baffling to me, I gotta say. To hell with the story - its mechanics/controls are arguably the best thing going for it. Simple and almost perfect from get-go like RE4, Mario or Tetris. It might be underwhelming now because so many games feature similar mechanics, but regardless, the intuitiveness and influence of its gameplay really can't be overstated.
  6. Well they certainly weren't going for good dialogue like the writers of Portal might be, that's for sure, but aside from some things that don't hold up well I'm confused that anyone would think they didn't hit their mark most of the time. Are there things that were of the time and don't hold up? Sure, but there are triple-A games NOW that arguably have worse dialogue and writing, so I usually cut the original Gears some slack. That said the stories in the new games are much better, though they feel a bit more like modern blockbusters than the campy ridiculousness B-movie creature feature/action film vibe of the original. In any case, I think saying it's incomprehensible and totally cringey is a bit much considering how many games better fit that description, but to each their own.
  7. Anyone who thinks the Gears devs were unaware of the goofiness of the premise and dialogue are not giving them credit. Is it high satire of 80's action bro movies, no, it definitely unironically leans into a lot of those tropes, but its definitely aware of them too. The guns have chainsaw bayonnetes for christtsakes. There are some aspects that don't hold up, sure, but I love Gears, especially Ultimate Edition. It has memorable worldbuilding and creature design, the campy monster movie thrills of Resident Evil, some fun banter between characters, and arguably the sleakest cover-based mechanics in a third person shooter to this day. If I had an xbox I'd still be playing it.
  8. Hell yeah, day one. Just a few days ago I was thinking about how much I missed this series. Wonder if this means more remakes are on the horizon? Sonic Adventure collection via the Crash and Spyro treatment, maybe?
  9. Skyrim is one of those games that's rough to go back to now. After playing something like RDR2 it feels downright bizarre that I thought it was as immersive as I did back then.
  10. Oh just kiss and make up already you two, for christ sakes
  11. The only concern I have is lack of bluray/UHD release, since it's netflix. I really want to have a complete steelbook Knives Out collection on my shelf before it's all said and done.
  12. Last year I had a theory about Sanders, if elected, making public displays of bigotry illegal and punishable by fine, possibly more, depending on the severity of it and how fucking hilarious it would be to see it implemented after a white supremacist tyrant is elected to rile up all the extreme bigots in America to be open with their hatred. Four years of that and a badass anti-authoritarian jew from the civil right movement subverts his second term and makes all behaviors associated with trumpism illegal. Initiate operation schmuck tax. If Biden does it it'll still be amusing enough, but it'll never be as poetic. Ah well.
  13. When reading Fizzles' posts I can't unimagine him as a fusion of GG Allin and Gordon Ramsay
  14. As far as politicians running in Texas who might actually have a chance of winning an election and getting semi-decent legislation passed, he's still one of the best options. Which of course says more about the Texas political landscape than anything
  15. Elden Ring and whatever Ghost Story Games might have cooking
