Digitally Downloaded - 5 / 5 stars

Scarlet Nexus is one of the most interesting new JRPGs that we’ve seen in a while from a big publisher. Combining a beautifully elegant, but also visceral combat system with a rich and evocative theme, and hugely entertaining characters, this game is available on the previous generation, I know, but in design and execution, it’s very much the perfect new-generation experience.

GameGrin - 10 / 10

Scarlet Nexus is easily one of the best games so far this year and a strong contender for game of the year. With addictive gameplay and compelling narrative, there is plenty to love in this Brain Punk vision of a psionic future.

God is a Geek - 9.5 / 10

Scarlet Nexus has phenomenal combat that stands tall above many other ARPGs, with a deep story and some gorgeous visuals.

Digital Trends - 4.5 / 5 stars

Scarlet Nexus is an excellent action roleplaying game for all fans of the genre.

GameSkinny - 9 / 10 stars

Scarlet Nexus is slick, stylish, smartly executed, and just all-around cool.

GamingTrend - 90 / 100

Scarlet Nexus is an absolute blast from the start and only gets better as you progress. The characters are charming, the story has nice twists and turns, and the combat is simple to understand but hard to master. While it certainly has flaws, this is a must play for action game fans.

Heavy - 9 / 10

As a brand new IP, Scarlet Nexus succeeds as a worthwhile experience for curious action RPG fans and anime diehards. Its overall package offers a compelling storyline, a visually splendid presentation, strong English voice work, and a soundtrack full of enjoyable tunes.

PlayStation LifeStyle - 9 / 10

Having finished Kasane's version of the story and getting ready to experience Yuito's side, I'm truly appreciative of the storytelling. Japanese sci-fi has long been a genre I enjoy. Last year players were spoiled with 13 Sentinels, and Scarlet Nexus has delivered another wonderfully woven narrative worth playing. Do not sleep on this game! JRPG July is just around the corner and the perfect time to spend 60 hours playing video games.

Game Informer - 8.8 / 10

With incredibly satisfying combat, weird and wonderful creatures, and an awesome aesthetic, Scarlet Nexus is well worth your time

Cram-Gaming - 8.5 / 10

Scarlet Nexus enters the fray as a neat story with futuristic themes and cool gameplay systems that requires some use of ones grey matter. The combat is the main meat here and is a joy to mix-and-match the skills of your team. In-fact it's a requirement when up against the larger Others and boss characters. Whilst the story does drag-its-feet a little, and some of the characters appear less-interesting than others, most players should find an entertaining ride from start-to-finish. This is a great entry for a new IP and we think most players will enjoy its "brain punk" themes.

Hobby Consolas - Spanish - 85 / 100

With a great story full of plot twists and a robust, varied and spectacular combat system, Scarlet Nexus is one of the best "anime style" video games Bandai Namco has ever made. If you like the genre or this kind fo stories, give it a chance.

MondoXbox - Italian - 8.5 / 10

Scarlet Nexus doesn't bring revolutions, but it manages to enhance its strengths with dynamic and fun gameplay, a cast of well-defined characters and a deep and mature story, all spiced up with a unique artistic style. A title definitely worth trying for all fans of Action-JRPGs.

Wccftech - 8.5 / 10

With masterfully crafted action combat, charming characters, and a very interesting setting, Scarlet Nexus is a game that action RPG fans should definitely not miss. While the game lacks any real innovation, as it features themes and mechanics lifted from other Japanese RPG series, and it is a little too linear, the high quality of the experience makes it easy to look past these few issues, making Scarlet Nexus a memorable, and extremely enjoyable game.

COGconnected - 84 / 100

Unfortunately, there’s some repetition in both the enemies and the combat arenas, and the pacing stutters here and there when it pauses for the story a little too long. On the whole, though, Scarlet Nexus’ refreshing action, story, and trippy brain punk visual style are the game’s superpowers that make it worth playing.

RPG Fan - 83 / 100

Scarlet Nexus is definitely worth playing for any fan of action games and JRPGs, doubly so if you vibe with the art.

Worth Playing - 8.2 / 10

I think the world of Scarlet Nexus has a lot to offer, and I enjoyed getting a significant taste of it. Its concepts on brain power and psionic combat feel fresh, at least artistically, and I want to see where it possibly goes. I'm still abuzz over the final boss confrontation. I don't think it's quite for everyone, but fans of the anime style of storytelling will find something to connect with here.

Attack of the Fanboy - 4 / 5 stars

Overall, Scarlet Nexus is a simple, yet great and enjoyable experience for any fan of the genre out there. You hunt monsters, make yourself and your allies stronger, gather resources for making new cosmetics and gear, constantly unlock new features for inside and outside of combat, all that while you watch an interesting story materialize in front of your eyes. It really is a modernized, old-school adventure which will satisfy anyone, even with the few drawbacks it has and the rather slow beginning.

Cubed3 - 8 / 10

Scarlet Nexus blends a unique Brain Punk visual style with tight combat that requires adaptation and synergy. The Others are the game's ace up its sleeve with bizarre but creative creature variety. Each enemy type demands adaptability with the assortment of abilities at Yuito and Kasane's disposal thanks to their squadmates. Outside of combat, character moments shine in Bond Episodes and the writing is complemented well by a talented English voice cast. The variety of personalities does well to carry the weight of the convoluted plot as it progresses. However, the slideshow presentation of the vast majority of cutscenes diminishes the emotional impact of events that would have benefited more from animation. The game provides a solid gameplay experience on PC and I look forward to what this team can come up with next.

Easy Allies - 8 / 10

Scarlet Nexus sets itself apart with its inventive battle systems and captivating world, but does it stumble by asking you to complete two campaigns in order to fully appreciate its narrative?

GameSpace - 8 / 10

The game combines a good combat system, an extensive deep storyline, and nice graphics. The interactions between the protagonists and the world look believable, and you can tell that developers have a lot of love for characters and the world of Scarlet Nexus.

IGN Italy - Italian - 8 / 10

Scarlet Nexus offers a fascinating game universe and frames a deep and well-crafted action-RPG, despite some exposure naiveties.

IGN Spain - Spanish - 8 / 10

Scarlet Nexus is a huge surprise. His combat is wonderful and his story, despite having less inspired moments, knows how to generate interest. The differences between the two protagonists and the surprises are enough to please any fan of the genre.

Inverse - 8 / 10

Bandai Namco’s latest action RPG delivers a crackling sci-fi story with electrifying and innovative combat.

PlayStation Universe - 8 / 10

Whether you latch on to the interesting technological tale of Scarlet Nexus or dig into its intricate combat system Scarlet Nexus is well worth your time and effort. It's full of beautiful characters, strange creatures, and plot twists. The camera can be irksome and some of the environments can look dated but overall the experience is a pleasant one. There is a fair amount of content for your hard-earned cash and the game never outstays its welcome. I can recommend it to most players, even people who rarely dip into the JRPG genre, such as myself.

Screen Rant - 4 / 5 stars

The best superhero games are the ones that actually make the player feel like they are playing as a character from a comic book, and Scarlet Nexus manages to pull this off with style, making it an excellent choice for fans of over-the-top action or anime-style storytelling.

The Games Machine - Italian - 8 / 10

Scarlet Nexus offers an excellent combat system, paired with creative visual designs and with the courageous choice of having two different (but intertwined) storylines. Unfortunately, a general lack of attention to detail and less-than-impressive environments prevent it from excelling, but it's definitely a safe choice if you're into japanese action RPGs.

The Outerhaven Productions - 4 / 5 stars

Bandai Namco's Scarlet Nexus is an interesting mixture of hack and slash meets JRPG and succeeds in just about every department. However, it's not without its flaws, which are minor. If you're looking for a fun action game with some RPG elements sprinkled in, then you can't go wrong with Scarlet Nexus.

TheSixthAxis - 8 / 10

From its compelling story, to its wild enemy designs and combat, I'm kind of in awe of Scarlet Nexus. Where Bandai Namco games often have a niche appeal, I've got no reservations about recommending Scarlet Nexus. I'd definitely suggest skipping a lot of the side stories, but everything else here is the kind of anime-infused greatness that will appeal to nearly everyone.

TrueGaming - Arabic - 8 / 10

A unique game that features an intriguing story and a satisfying combat system.

Twinfinite - 4 / 5

Video Chums - 7.9 / 10

Scarlet Nexus is an intriguing new IP that definitely shows promise for a potential sequel so if you enjoy anime-infused action RPGs then you likely won't regret slaying the many gnarly mutants within its unique futuristic game world.

Cultured Vultures - 7.5 / 10

While there are gameplay hiccups and under-utilized systems, Scarlet Nexus has enough exciting combat and brain-twisting story to find its audience, and deliver major fun for those who enjoy its acquired taste.

Press Start - 7.5 / 10

Despite some glaring flaws in its pacing and length, I've come away from Scarlet Nexus enjoying what it had to offer. It delivers on the promise a brain-punk inspired world with an enjoyable narrative and a stylish albeit simple combat system. The result is a title that's greater than the sum of its parts and is worth experiencing if you can look past its problems.

GameSpew - 7 / 10

Offering a lengthy adventure that you’ll need to play through twice if you want the full picture, Scarlet Nexus is entertaining enough. Due to numerous issues with its gameplay, however, it’s a game that’s carried by its story. It’s a shame really, because the world created here is genuinely interesting and unique; I’d certainly like to see more Scarlet Nexus games in the future, and will definitely check out the anime when it arrives on Netflix. But there were times throughout my adventure where the combat was irritating rather than fun, and traipsing through an environment just felt like a chore rather than an exciting foray into the unknown.

GamesRadar+ - 3.5 / 5 stars

A brilliant battle system is let down somewhat by the largely underwhelming side stories and meandering companions of Scarlet Nexus.

Spaziogames - Italian - 7 / 10

Similarly to Code Vein, Scarlet Nexus offers a compelling universe, a smart gameplay and a fascinating art direction, but is limited by asset recycling when it comes to enemies and locations, a confusing plot and little side content. Bandai Namco is off to a good start with new IP, but needs to improve under these production areas.

Windows Central - 3.5 / 5 stars

Scarlet Nexus looks and performs really well, especially on next-gen hardware, but its gameplay is noticeably last gen. While it doesn't do anything new, it also doesn't screw up the basics either and should please Xbox fans looking for an anime fix.

Gamers Heroes - 65 / 100

Scarlet Nexus boasts a story that is impossible not to recommend. Bandai Namco has created a truly intriguing world that, even after completing the game, has me yearning for more. The option of playing the second main character, which boasts a different story direction, would be the perfect remedy if not for the other areas of the game falling short. Repetitive mechanics and frustrating combat design hamper what could otherwise be an incredible adventure.

Stevivor - 6 / 10

Scarlet Nexus isn’t for me, but those who like the frenzy of Bayonetta, the quirkiness of Persona or the aesthetic of Code Vein (but not its Soulslike component) could find something that clicks.

VG247 - 3 / 5 stars

There’s plenty of fun to be had for all players because it’s great once it gets going – but I fear it might lose people in its opening few hours.

Hardcore Gamer - 2.5 / 5

Who's to say what the real, developer-side cause is for Scarlet Nexus' failings.

Console Creatures - Recommended

Scarlet Nexus is an excellent game bogged down by some minor issues. Combat is fast, frantic, and fluid and offers some exhilarating moments but at the cost of bland environments and fruitless exploration.

Polygon - Unscored

The haunting twists of Scarlet Nexus make it a surprise gem
