This is what's blowing my mind. Not only is the open world incredibly engaging and full of fun shit but then you get to a place like Stormveil and...it's the entirety of Boletarian Palace but a new height of level design and visual and vistas.

Like look out West of Stormveil, just who the fuck designed this? They've always had stellar art but come ON.

This game often reminds me of that 80s take on fantasy like The Last Unicorn or Legend. It's more whimsical than prior entries but also highly gothic and somber.

Also the small additions in the side dungeons of traps you can interact with and small puzzle elements as well as the added platforming work wonders.

I was in the River Bed (Sofria?) area yesterday and it had a full Tomb Raider platforming puzzle. That's my shit.

This game quite literally has everything cool about videogames so far.

Out of all of the impressions that I’ve read so far, these are the ones that have pretty much sold me on the game. I was on the fence since I usually find FromSoftware games to be frustratingly difficult, but an 80s style dark fantasy aesthetic, an engaging open world to explore and levels with Tomb Raider type traps, puzzles and platforming... sign me up.

I did. Where is the boss, margit?

To the north west, like if you remember that camp at the beginning of the game with the two stage coaches and the guy with the javelin, basically through the arches by the grace bonfire and, just look on your map and it's like near the two big circle things that look like a castle I guess. I dunno, if you were to follow that path you'd find it pretty easily.

Question about performance for people on PC. Is my processer holding me back from reaching 60fps? I have an... "Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4.00GHz"

GPU is an 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (EVGA) btw.

I have a 208ti and Ryzen7 2700k and it hovers around 60 to 55 but with gsync it's not really noticeable. That being said even DF found stuttering so I'd wait for some more optimizations to come.

I really like how dark areas REQUIRE a torch now. And they play on that fully now, something they had promised with DS2 promo material if anyone remembers that.

DS2 had some areas that required a torch. Since I played it last week I remember the areas.

The problem is that game is so bright and washed out maybe you'd never even notice. :p

I like in this game you don't even need the torch really, you can craft those glow rocks and throw them down for some pretty substantial light.

Also, the torch is actually a pretty good weapon in this game, at least against weak things. I used it on those poisonous flowers, and even those troll-ape things, and did some good damge.

Down goes Godrick!

That Castle was a joy to explore, and I'm sure I missed a lot and need to revisit it.  I was shocked to see just how thorough it was designed.  I expected a pretty linear straight forward area with how large the game world alone is, yet I get a full blown area that is larger than most Dark Souls areas by itself.

Just really impressed with everything I've been experiencing.  I fought Margite as a Lvl 35ish, did it 2nd try with no summons.  Def didn't kill it in 5-6 hits, what weapon you using @Xbob42?  It was a fun fight though.  Just cleared Gordrick, really fun fight as well.  Had to summon my fellow Hero Class teammate though to come kick ass.

I'm addicted!

Level 35?  Holy shit. What direction did you explore in? I feel like ive explored most of the first area after unlocked the map. West Limgrave. I beat Magrit as I mentioned above but only at level 17 and it took me like 15 tries.

maybe im rushing too much by following the guiding light, but i have killed about 4-5 side bosses who all went down pretty easy.

Its a fantastic game. And I am not even a Souls guy.

were you? i think he will sell you something that helps with margit but not sure where he goes after you see him.  he gave up at 50% for me

Spoiler

Once you kill him, go back to the start of the cave and then back to him. He sells something called Magrits Chains or something like that. I bought it for 5000 runes.

I equipped it in a slot and it basic stun locks magrit. But it seems to only work in the first phase. I got 2 uses in before triggering the 2nd phase

I watched SnowBikeMike on Twitch last night. Astrologer is eazy mode Elden Ring.

Dammit don’t tell me this I’ll get to urge to start over. My problem with these games is that I end up wanting to try like 20 different builds and I end up wanting to restart to try a new one.

I explored basically the entire area south east of where Margite is.  Once I hit that little shack telling you to go to the castle, I turned back and explored everything.  Haven't farmed anything specifically just running around fighting as I go.

Cleared probably 8-10 of the smaller Dungeons I think.  Killed quite a few world bosses I've found.  3 I ran from for now.

How do ashes of war work? I have storm stomp. I rested at a site of grace, went into the ashes of war menu. I equipped it on my short sword, which said it also increases it to a quality item.

but i have so far not figured out what it does.

Press LT, or L1 to activate it.  Takes FP but its a special move/ability.

Be warned, this is still a Souls game through and through. It's an evolution much like Demon's to Dark Souls. It's still a difficult game but you're free to go level the shit out of yourself or do whatever you please to beat that ballbreaker boss. You could do that in previous games but it's more organic here.

But I mean plenty of people in here weren't fans before and are gettin into it so this might be it for ya.

Also 50% of players have beaten Margit per the trophies, you can definitely do it. It's a stupidly impressive game.

I've never been deprived / wretch in these games but decided to go for it in this game. It's exciting, especially when you can start tackling basic enemies like those damn bats, pretty easily with a shield and proper weapon instead of a club. :p

So I ALMOST beat Margit but I still need to level up.

I summoned my nephew for help but I didn't realize when you do coop the boss gets harder. I'm going to level up a bit more and try again soon.

I still need to find where to unlock more of the map, too. I've played 4 hours of this game today and will be back at it shortly. So addicting.

The Godrick fire phase is...something. I have no idea how to counter his arena-covering fire storms. Feels pretty stupid right now. Phase 1 isn't even hard but then it's just, k I guess we're done here.

To start with, I run up the stairs to the fog wall. Then I try to stay to his sides and back as much as possible. Aside from the wind+fire AoE, afaik the fire only shoots forward

I have a back up save of that fight, but I wish I would have recorded it. When I beat Godrick I fucking rolled him. Like, he only had two tenths of his bar left when he went into fire mode. I fucked him up. Powerstancing Curved Greatswords paired with jumping attacks and bleed is like cheating.

Once the cut scene ends you have enough time to run behind him and get some hits in. Trust me, bro.

I just beat him right after posting that. Doing exactly that lol.

Also, don't sleeo on Kukri knives to finish off a boss at a distance. I just took off his last few 100 HPs with those. In your face bitch.

Ok so zoom close on the map and follow the main roads where it's still covered. It'll show you that. Along the main roads you'll see a little lamp looking drawing, same style as the map, not an actual icon.

And good job man, Margit is tough. Use everything in your arsenal to fuck him up. Do you have magic or a bow?

Ashes of war do two things. They change the special of your weapon and they replace the old gems. You need the black smith to add them to the weapon you want. Be away that their are different options. Quality improves dex and str scaling, heavy is just str scaling, and forgot ehat the other was.

The Curved Greatsword from the Gaol mini-boss? I'm using that, it's fucking great.

Jump attacks are great in this game. I found a talisman to enhance those. Yum

it looks like there might be level requirements even though it doesnt say. Ive had it equipped since I got it and it did nothing.

I just bumped up a few levels - went from strength 12 to 16 bc I do no physical damage and now it suddenly works. It actually replaced parry which was totally useless in this game
