SaysWho? Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 Murkowski, Romney back Jackson, all but assure confirmation | AP News APNEWS.COM WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Mitt Romney announced Monday night they will vote to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s historic elevation to the Supreme Court, giving President Joe Biden's nominee a burst of bipartisan support and all but assuring she'll become the first Black female justice. Quote All three Republicans said they did not expect to agree with all of Jackson’s decisions, but they found her extremely well qualified. Romney said Jackson “more than meets the standard of excellence and integrity.” Murkowski said she will “bring to the Supreme Court a range of experience from the courtroom that few can match given her background in litigation.” Quote

SaysWho? Posted April 7, 2022 Author Posted April 7, 2022 Senate confirms Ketanji Brown Jackson to Supreme Court in historic vote WWW.NBCNEWS.COM Judge Jackson is set to become Justice Jackson later this year, making good on Biden's promise to put the first Black woman on the court. Quote The final vote was 53 to 47, with all 50 Democratic caucus members supporting Jackson, joined by Republican Sens. Susan Collins, of Maine, Lisa Murkowski, of Alaska, and Mitt Romney, of Utah. Vice President Kamala Harris presided over the vote. Jackson and Biden watched the vote together in the White House. The vote means Jackson will take office at the end of the court's current term — likely in June or July — when Justice Stephen Breyer is expected to step down. Her appointment would not disrupt the current 6 to 3 conservative balance on the Supreme Court. Thank you Breyer for seeing this as the best time to step down and thanks for your service. The era of Ketanji Brown Jackson is beginning soon. Quote

SaysWho? Posted April 7, 2022 Author Posted April 7, 2022 Strange rule: Sens. Lindsey Graham and Jim Inhofe voted From the Republican cloakroom because they weren't wearing ties as is required by Senate rules on the floor. Graham was in a quarter zip and a blazer. He stuck out his thumb down on the final KBJ vote and receded back into the Cloakroom Quote
SaysWho? Posted April 7, 2022 Author Posted April 7, 2022 No surprise based on recent news, but the three Republicans who voted for Jackson were Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Mitt Romney. Quote
SaysWho? Posted April 7, 2022 Author Posted April 7, 2022 Judge Jackson’s confirmation was a historic moment for our nation. We’ve taken another step toward making our highest court reflect the diversity of America. She will be an incredible Justice, and I was honored to share this moment with her. Quote

One thing I have no problem saying: for a Senator in Utah, you could do way way way way way way worse than Romney. He replaced Orrin Hatch; imo, that's an easy improvement. Quote
