Also seriously some of the weirdest music choices I've seen in a while. And I like ALL those songs! Just... they have literally nothing to do with anything and add nothing. Hearing Black Sabbath randomly at the end of one of those made zero sense. It's jarring.

The end credits music choices were ill-considered to say the least.

The more I think about this show, the worse it becomes.

This. It's basically

Spoiler

The Village but way more pretentious. The fucking double-gotcha at the end is...just, come on give me a break! Surprise, it's this, but no it's this BUT IT WAS YOU ALL ALONE LOL. The whole last episode just made it worse and I was already getting sick of its antics.

The "artsy" music choices, the writing, the fake-outs, it all strikes me as smug and up its own ass and none of it works. I mean compare this to some Black Mirror episodes that touch on similar subjects and it's a painful mess.

How the fuck they didn't get into the WHY of the whole time period, ships etc. is baffling to me. Why are they in a Titanic simulation? Why Sink Ship, why so many of these elements that they framed as important to the plot earlier on? It did that "cos it all isn't real!" copout to seemingly drop all the plot points of the early episodes.

I honestly cannot disagree with any of this whatsoever!

I enjoyed it overall. I personally didn't mind the slow pace and I think the criticisms about the language barriers are maybe a bit nit picky.

I did say jokingly earlier "some things transcend language" but I think it did turn out that way for a lot of points. Like the Ling Yi and Olek interactions, a person could make the connection that someone is uneasy even if you can't understand from their language that they are. For the most part a lot of characters could actually understand at least some other people. The rich lady could understand Chinese, French and English. The one French chick could understand some English, etc.

As for circular action they do return to some places but something different happens, however, I think it mostly pushes ahead. There are so many characters and so many things going on I think the episodes got by pretty quickly.

As for the ending it's building up to something like, take it or leave it, I anticipated something of that nature happening. I didn't hate it one way or the other.

I watched the whole thing, so that is something. The story suffers a bit from plot puppet character choices, excessive use of meaningful stares,  and some awkward social issues tourism. Despite those consistent flaws, it still held my interest, though maybe half of that was me holding out to the end to have all the data I needed to judge it more harshly! :p Dark was better.

I do think, however, now that the cat's out of the bag (well for those that who have watched) that if they made a second season that the show could really go anywhere at this point, and they wouldn't have to do a slow plodding mystery but rather explore further scenarios

Spoiler

At the end you saw the rest of the people, conceivably you could go into scenarios into their minds or go further into the future. You could really do some crazy stuff now.

But that's all assuming they want to make more. The ending was rather ambiguous.

I fear West World nonsense if a second season happens, and I have every reason to believe one will unless the show proves unpopular.

Honestly, I am pretty close to dropping Netflix.

as soon as they implement the password sharing i’m just gonna pirate all their shows and movies i wanna watch. my brother currently pays for it and i can’t justify paying for that shit myself.

I already pirated the most recent Stranger Things season. Between the high prices and making me repeatedly think about whether or not it's worth it with the high pace of price hikes it was hard to justify just keeping it around just to always have it around. With this sort of service I feel like you want the recurring charge out of sight out of mind with your customers, not constantly forcing them to reevaluate the value proposition of the service via price hikes.

I think 2 things can be true…

Netflix’s pump and dump strategy is bad.

People expecting these shows to be written in such a way that everything is planned out with accurate foresight about how long it’ll run to avoid “unsatisfying endings” and hedged stories is unrealistic and also bad..

Supposedly for this they had three seasons in mind. But I think the way it ended could be taken as a conclusion or a cliffhanger. The unfortunate part is for people who didn't enjoy this particular show didn't get a chance to have it redeemed by a second season.

It’s more notable coming from Netflix because they’re basically the biggest name in TV and they make a lot of shows, but don’t something like half of all TV shows not make it past one season?

It's definitely more than 50% in recent history for broadcast shows; IIRC it was 2/3 or slightly more.
