The sad part is that this might be too little too late as the game is almost dead. While they have done significant changes that have improved the game since launch, depending on the time of day you might not get into a full lobby. The 64 player maps have helped but every now and then you can end up in a match with a good amount of bots. What's worse is that there are even less people are playing the Portal mode portion of the game. Playing conquest on the BF3 and BFBC maps have been more enjoyable than the 2042 maps simply because they are too big, but rarely can I get into a full match that is not a custom game mode. This game feels like it could be another Anthem where they say they are going to fix it and then just drop the support entirely.

I enjoyed my time with the game but I uninstalled. Without voice comms I have seen all it has to offer.

Don't worry, they will fix all these issues with the launch of Battlefield VI. Except it won't have vehicles or crouching at launch.

DICE has to be the worst "AAA" devs. How do you in the year of our Lord 2022 not have in game voice chat in a team based mp game.

I also feel they lack and identity. COD has an identity. You know what you will get and what you are getting. BF just chases trends now. No game seems to build upon the work of the previous game.

This game deserves to die and the quicker the better. Hopefully that will be a wake up call to Dice/EA.  This not a Battlefield game and doesn't deserve to be called one.

Given that I payed $60 USD plus tax for this game, I would very much prefer it did get fixed, thank you very much. :p

oof. After all the negative feedback, ability to try for 10Hrs through EA….sometimes ya gotta own your mistakes!

in all seriousness, I really dont see what the can do here to salvage this game. The bugs sure, but the core of this game is fundamentally broken. It would need FF XIV levels of repair to fix it and EA is def not doing that.

Well I preordered it to get into the beta, and just because I love Battlefield so I was excited to play it for hundreds of hours like I have with previous games. I thought it would be a rough launch sure, but most Battlefield games are, but they'll patch and smooth things out. I certainly didn't think it would take this long. In hindsight, yeah I was probably in a bit of denial from people warning not to preorder because we hadn't seen much gameplay, and the beta was so late, and I shouldn't have bought it.

I don't think it's beyond repair though. I don't hate it as much as some others, but it certainly needs work. They could restrict specialists to the class they're stated as, and restrict them to gadgets usually associated with those classes. They could make specialists super characters like the heroes in Battlefront II, and your regular soldier is a customizable soldier like they were in Battlefield V with classes. They could make specialists just skins like the operators in the current CoDs are, and they make the specialist gadgets and abilities able to be used by anyone, but restricted by class. Imagine being able to combine the grapple hook with the wing suit, but you have to be an assault class to do so. Combine the drone with the spotting anyone who shoots you for recon.

It would be a lot to work on, no doubt, but it might actually be worth it for EA to make this a No Man's Sky like success story, rather than another Anthem type failure. Abandoning the game would ruin the franchise long term. The next game would suffer.

what youre speaking of is balancing. That all can be fixed. When I say the core of this game is broken - its the map design, the UI, the stupid mid-game attachment wheel…its all terrible. To fix all that is to completely redo the game.

im a huge BF fan I would love to eat my words, but I dont see it.

I think UI is a lot easier to fix than changing the actual gameplay system of classes/specialists. The launch and early DLC maps will need to be adjusted since they're already developed, although the later DLC maps will probably start development with the improvements in mind, but this is why the start of the seasons has been delayed until summer. Not sure if between the March update and the summer they'll be adjusting the launch maps, but it's going to be a long wait for new content regardless. It sucks.

Honestly someone's head needs to roll for this debacle, and preferably someone higher up at EA who ordered this game to come out for October last year initially before it got that one month delay. Someone at EA gave DICE only two years to develop BFV, when they wanted three years, and that's probably what lead to a lot of the senior talent getting fed up with the corporate stooges rushing them, and them leaving the studio. Now obviously a lot more talented people at DICE work on these games, so people leaving isn't necessarily the end of quality games, but then EA replaced them with a guy who's only experience seems to be with mobile games to lead development of this game, a AAA multiplayer shooter, and yet again rushed this game when it absolutely should have gotten an extra year of development. It having three years of development wouldn't have been a problem during normal times, but during a pandemic it's mind boggling how this wasn't pushed to this year. Even if they didn't want to go up against Modern Warfare II this fall, which honestly EA does need to stop doing, as they keep trying to compete with CoD with each Battlefield release, they should have probably even released this game in March 2023. Bad Company 2 released in March of 2010, which gave it enough space from the original Modern Warfare 2 so when people had played enough of that they could move over to BC2. Instead they keep trying to release at the same time as CoD, and that just makes people who only have enough time and money for one game have to choose between the two, and CoD beats it in sales every time. I get EA also wants those holiday sales but clearly it's not worth it, or working, and I'm sure when BC2 released in March it did great numbers.

If anything proves that games are works of art it's this kind of shit because you can't rush good art, but to EA these are just products to be produced and sold. EA needs more people higher up that aren't corporate ghouls, and get people that actually understand games. Someone like a Phil Spencer, Reggie Fils-Aime, or Herman Hulst. EA has some of the best franchises for a third party studio, but they keep fucking up by rushing games, broken, buggy messes, and they never seem to learn from it, and it pisses me off. If this kind of thing continues it's only a matter of time before they start losing a ton of money and they're bought out by Microsoft or Sony, although maybe that would be for the best if it can save some of my favourite franchises like Battlefield and Mass Effect from the greed and incompetence of EA. I'm worried now though that if anyone is fired, it's not going to be some EA executive, but someone at DICE who really isn't at fault, and the good people there who are passionate about Battlefield, and are just trying to make a good game are going to suffer for it, and it'll only be a matter of time before Papa EA comes around with his shotgun locked and loaded ready to add another body to the EA graveyard.

Fuck EA.

Lead designer David Goldfarb reckons a Battlefield 2143 is the next logical step

Quote

Former Battlefield 3 lead designer David Goldfarb is "astonished" by the "many missteps" of Battlefield 2042 and believes a 100-year time leap might do the near-future shooter some good.

In a recent Twitter thread lamenting the many issues facing Battlefield 2042, Goldfarb stressed that he is still "trying to understand why some of these design calls were made," specifically highlighting the role (or lack thereof) of infantry in the game's map design and 128-player lobbies.

"Was no one in control of quality over there?" reads one tweet. "Who thought this experience honored the BF sandbox experience and took it forward? I’m astonished that there were this many missteps even knowing the obstacles from higher up."

"And for all my friends and colleagues over there – ugh," Goldfarb added.

EA’s release of Battlefield 2042 was a mockery of every customer who purchased this video game for $70 (USD) due to EA’s false advertising.Battlefield 2042 has cost...

Over 165,000 signatures so far. I'm sure nothing will come of it but I wouldn't mind having my $99.99 back.

EA management ran a company 'Town Hall' meeting call today, giving previously unknown insight as to how the launch of Battlefield 2042 has been perceived internally by key executives.

EA has finally acknowledged the disappointing launch of Battlefield 2042 in its latest internal 'Town Hall' meeting call, held today, February 15. These quarterly calls aim to provide company-wide key updates on the business by looking at the past, present, and future.

One of the biggest takeaways from the call held today was the huge focus on Battlefield 2042. EA execs spent over 20 minutes discussing what went wrong with the launch, and also how the company sees the future of both Battlefield 2042 and the Battlefield franchise going forward.

Laura Miele, EA's Chief Studios Officer, led the discussion on Battlefield 2042 by acknowledging EA's wider successes, both past and present, but said "it's really important to acknowledge when we have misses." Miele continued, "This is certainly the case with the Battlefield launch, which failed to meet the expectations of our players, and also clearly missed our own expectations."

The Halo part:

Following the game's launch, DICE rolled out its Day 1 and Day 0 patches to get the bug count down further. On this, Miele continued and said that Battlefield 2042's launch and patches meant "the game was stable" and "the early critical reception was good". However, according to EA, things took a turn, and that turn was clears throat, the surprise release of Halo: Infinite multiplayer (I wish I was joking).

According to Miele, the comparison between both games was not favourable because Halo Infinite was a very polished title whereas Battlefield 2042 contained bugs and wasn't as polished.

I'm TOTALLY gonna use this tactic the next time I get a negative performance evaluation.

"You see, I'm only bad when compared to Janet. Take her out of the equation and I'm lookin' pretty good, am I right?"

Sounds like they were surprised at the reaction? It's like they expect their customers to be satisfied with being sold shit.

Releasing wildly broken shit and fixing it later is becoming the norm, and it's here to stay as long as these broken games get purchased by the masses. I remember reading that this game underperformed, but this tactic works well way too often. Look at the GTA trilogy. That pile of shit sold like 10 million copies.

  • 2 weeks later...

Had to check in with the game tonight. Been since Christmas break.

Loaded up the standard conquest mode. I timed it, I sat on the "waiting for players" screen for exactly 5 minutes. Never found enough. Tried Conquest 64 player (LIMITED TIME MODE BABY). Same thing. 5 minutes later I closed that. Went over to Portal and tried  Conquest of Ages: ("experience conquest on every map from 1942, BC2, and BF3" ). Game loaded fast, put me right into the game, I quickly realize I'm the only person in the game. Hopped in a tank, captured the first 2 points, sat there another minute, enemy side didn't capture any points so I guess I was truly alone. Closed game. Uninstalling now.
