  1. Last 6 or 7 years, I’ve started to read a fair bit of historical fiction. It’s been great seeing an overview of various key people and events but I want more. I’ve just started to listen/watch some Dan Snow content and I’m enjoying it. I’ve mainly read/listened to things about English history from about 900 - 1500AD, but I’m keen to know what else I could read into, preferably outside the history of the country where I live - which I plan on learning about through a few trips over the next few years. So, what old things did you find interesting to learn about?
  2. I’m pretty much at the end of Dread. One mini boss then the final boss. Trying to decide if I need to go back and get more health/ammo or if I’ll just go for it and ‘git gud’ and just learn the final boss.
  3. Balloons being squeezed. It made my daughters birthday recently pretty horrific as there were about 15 toddlers all playing with them. I’m also scared about the day when she realises she has a power over me.
  4. With work starting again, TV being decent, and work on my house, gaming has taken a back seat. I’ve been off work ill today (and will be tomorrow) and decided to fire up Metroid Dread. Blunt forced my way to a boss, so I’ll polish that off tomorrow. I’m quite far into the game now, so depending on how I feel, I may try and see it off tomorrow. More likely, I’ll manage about 30 minutes then need to have a sleep.
  5. Tried out the Nextlander podcast- it felt like a comfy blanket and will be where I go for my gaming podcast.
  6. When I was in sixth form (education is statutory until 16 in the UK, then optional for two additional years, called sixth form) we smuggled a TV with an N64 and a copy of Pokemon Stadium in. This was…14 years ago, but the mini games were amazing. Also, 1080 was in my top 5 N64 games and Excitebike was horribly underrated.
  7. At least, right at this very moment. I have a class of 26, they’re all really nice, engaged kids, with a lovely drive to learn more. I’ve got better at my job (teaching and managing a classroom), which they’re responding really well too. During the highs, teaching is a magical job. I am aware of the very, very low, lows you can reach however. I just fancied sharing those good feelings whilst they hang around.
  8. I mean, I shouldn’t be excited, but I am a little bit. Time to get my holes up for Zelda and Metroid remasters, a wild card new game, good bit of DLC and maybe something on new prime/Zelda.
  9. Not my favourite choice of word. I’m from a culture where ‘mate’ is still the king of not-using-a-name-but-using-a-word.
  10. Do some Joe Wicks videos - he has a range of 10 minute workouts for a range of ability levels. Loads on YouTube
  11. Yes, but not in a fancy way. More in a ‘I can cook food that tastes nice for me, my wife, and my toddler’ kind of way. When I’m older and richer I may see if I can get more recipes and techniques under my belt.
  12. I’ve already decided that my New Years resolution will be no caffeine at all for a year. This years ‘no bread’ has been great, with the odd pizza because I’m not a lunatic, and one I’ll keep up. Did a few runs around my local area now school has started. Nothing like a nice 3 mile run with about 8 hills, carrying a 12lb back pack.
  13. I’m snot a football fan, but Messi is just so much better than anyone that has ever touched a football.
  14. School tomorrow will be an interesting one. Either my 8 and 9 year old students won’t care, or they’ll really care.
  15. This thread has 2.3k views and that’s a bit of a travesty.
  16. The only good thing about Liz Truss is the fact she’ll change her policy to ensure the media is on her side. After her saying there will be no support this winter, I’m looking forward to her doubling the cash support I’ll get, along with freezing the cap on gas. Then, once she’s used up any good will, she can fuck off after a general election and we can start this mess all over again.
  17. Lasagne would be the closest - but I could see myself shaking at the thought after the first 5-10 years.
  18. One day left of my 6 week holiday, then I need to work 7 weeks until my next week off. Woe is me!
  19. Bed time pending, I have the house to myself this evening. My head tells me use this time to play more Metroid or Doom, my heart says to watch Sandman or a film….
  20. We have one dedicated social media platform that’s completely private, with family and friends invited. We’ve also made it clear to friends/family we would prefer that pictures of our daughter are not public. If she changes her mind later on, she can, but for now, I’d rather protect her digital identity.
  21. Isn’t doing something like that a great way to never be approved for credit ever.
