  1. No I agree with that bit, at least to the extent that I know my Japanese history which isn't nearly as detailed as yours probably, but I was just pointing out that I don't think the movie counts as a white savior flick. The historical nonsense you described sounds about right as a baseline for most historical movies which is always a shame to me. Too many people take historical movies as gospel for some reason. Ultimately though, like you said, it is a great movie and I cut that art form a lot of slack in general. When that cinematography and soundtrack strikes gold, you could be filming a carrot farting and I'd be quite impressed. I'm easy like that.
  2. The title is actually plural and refers to the samurai in general. I looked this up after the, still hilarious, Mooney bit on the Chappelle Show. I had seen the movie and was like yeah that's a great joke with a better punchline BUT...that ain't what the movie is about at all. Cruise obviously isn't the Last Samurai, the title and cover are just an unfortunate combo that way. I would've been the first one to shit on that movie if so, I love Japanese cinema.
  3. So without reading the last page, I assume this is their slick way of killing both at the same time, yeah?
  4. I just looked this all up and I can't believe they released those three games in a three year time span. And since I just watched the Syphon Filter retrospective video, Splinter Cell only came out two and a half years after Syphon Filter. That's insane. I mean I remember how quickly things moved especially in the 90s graphics-wise but it's still wild.
  5. What amazes me most about this announcement video is how legitimately good the original still looks somehow. I haven't seen it in a long time and damn.
  6. I somehow never paid attention to that one even though I've seen it mentioned positively on here. I think it's online multiplayer? Maybe that's why I ignored it but reading up on it now, it does sound cool, yeah.
  7. I'm so aroused right now. Also just watched some of that Alanah Pearce gameplay and this looks so good. There are moves that bring up basically a stick selection wheel to target specific body parts including 'eye punch' and shit like that. So cool. This video just made this shoot up to one of my most anticipated games
  8. It's A24. I immediately waited for it to take some ludicrous turn. This one actually looks fun though, I'll keep it on the radar.
  9. Scorsese unfortunately had that going on for a bit. Bringing Out The Dead has some awful MTV Music Video moments like that as well.
  10. Exactly. Those are the days you have to just force yourself through it instead of saying fuck it. It'll pay off and be a good lesson.
  11. Besides the obvious, maybe a change in weather causing some cardio issues? Don't know where you live. I've been really struggling with my cardio getting back into sparring my trainer the last few weeks and he thinks it's because it got particularly cold here.
  12. I just checked, it was announced in late 2014 originally and even had a demo in 2017. I've seen screenshots and vague announcement videos for this game for years by now, that's why I said that.
  13. They've been showing this for years, announce a release date and still show no gameplay. What they did show at one point looked like some on-rails tech demo shit. My money is on style-over-substance disaster but I'd love to be proven wrong just because I'd like to play a game full of Giger knockoff art.
  14. Started a new playthrough of Blasphemous last night for the newly released DLC. Still a great game.
  15. I've somehow never seen the original and was also not aware that this is Spielberg. I should rectify both of those.
  16. Funny timing because I just tried to watch Josey Wales for the first time on the weekend and I turned it off about an hour in. I watch, and listen to, a lot of shit I don't agree with it but for some reason this movie really pissed me off and I tend to really like Eastwood.
  17. On that note, I applied for citizenship a couple months ago. Wish me luck. I was finally granted my hardship-based dual citizenship certificate from the German government, something a bit rare actually!
  18. And as the Great Poobah of immigrants on here, I declare all discussions about immigrants' needs open to all again. Huzzah!
  19. Bitch I learned English from watching late 90s Comedy Central standup specials on a 10" CRT TV at the Russian deli lol
