The ministry believes that the deposit holds 8.5 million ton of lithium, which is often called "white gold" for the rapidly-growing electric vehicle industry.

Iran says it’s discovered a massive deposit of lithium — a key element in batteries for devices and electric vehicles — in one of its western provinces.

“For the first time in Iran, a lithium reserve has been discovered in Hamedan,” a mountainous province in the country’s west, Mohammad Hadi Ahmadi, an official at Iran’s ministry of industry, mines and trade, was quoted as saying on Iranian state television Saturday.

The ministry believes that the deposit holds 8.5 million tons of lithium, which is often called “white gold” for the rapidly growing electric vehicle industry. If the claimed figure is accurate, that would make the deposit the second-largest known lithium reserve in the world after Chile, which holds 9.2 million metric tons of the metal, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The lucrative element is a crucial component in the cathodes of lithium-ion batteries in EVs, as well as in rechargeable batteries like those used in cell phones. The metal’s price has skyrocketed in the last year due to higher demand for electric vehicle parts, global supply chain problems and inflation, but fell more recently, undergoing a correction amid a fall in EV sales and slow business activity in China, the fastest-growing EV market.

If this turns out to be remotely accurate, then things are going to get very "interesting" in the realm of EVs.

Responses on point.

Bolivia is interesting because they successfully pushed back the people that would do this willingly.

I want to see what Iran does but enough outcomes are grim dark and humans should work towards noble bright. Human history is grim dark enough as is we need less not more.

No they won't. It will be the same boring world but the fighting and terrorism will be over lithium instead of oil. :P

Explains the lack of direct CIA or US intervention to cause the initial ousting but more obscure support through like OAS and such. I have to come up with this stuff because we aren't removed enough from the event for objective analysis or I missed that since Bolivia isn't super important news.

So coup dudes saw ways to make cash money at the expense of the rest of the pop or it's something else.

There is a Bush in office, for all intents and purposes. Biden's foreign policies aren't much different than any president before him. All they need is a chance. War is the one thing that is bipartisan.
