That was one retailer with respect to the claim that it would have outsold the 4080 in total since launch. It is unclear how many retailers were sourced to support the prior paragraph.

I dunno, I kinda picture them interviewing the manager of their local Best Buy :p

4070 Ti officially announced. Will be on sale in 2 days (Jan 5th) for $799. Performance looks to be right around or slightly better than a 3090 Ti, but also includes DLSS3.

Would there actually be any available at MSRP? My understanding is that there is no founders edition for the 4070 ti, so the $799 USD price tag is more like $850+ USD.

I took a quick look on newegg Canada at some prices and looks like it's going for $1200 - $1400 CAD. :(

I'm debating selling my 3070 and picking up a 3080 (new, not used) as I'm not quite satisfied with the ray tracing performance on the 3070. The one I'm looking at says it requires at least a 750W PSU. Mine is exactly 750W. Could I run into any potential issues? I have a Ryzen 3800X and 16 GB of RAM (might bump that to 32 GB depending on how Returnal actually runs with 16GB).

US NewEgg has the (base) MSI Ventus 4070 Ti in stock for $799, then there’s another Ventus version and a “Gaming” model for $830-840, BestBuy has some for $830 but are sold out of $800 base models, MicroCenter has $800 Zotac models in stock. I’ve learned via other Canadians here that the prices are extra inflated in Canada (at least, for the 4080 and 4090), as the base MSRP in CAD after exchange rate is notably higher than the base USD price for whatever reason. It’s even worse overseas (pending the country, the base msrp on a 4080 winds up being $200+ more after conversion).

If the base MSRP in CAD isn’t insanely higher than getting a used 3080 or 3090/3090 Ti, I’d just give it a couple weeks for inventory to balance out (base 4080s that were near-impossible to get since the 7900XTX benches released are mostly available now in the US) if you can’t find one after checking local store inventory. The 4070 Ti trades blows with the 3090 Ti, has much less power draw, runs much cooler, and OCs well (15-20%-ish performance increases pending how far you’re able to push it), you get DLSS3, you’d be getting a new card, and a full warranty.

The Canadian markup on Nvidia FE was around 40% in $C vs. $US.  (4090 - $2.099 vs. $1,659 and 4080 -- $1,659 vs. $1,199).  That would put the 4070Ti MSRP at around C$1,120 ($800*1.4).

The Canadian exchange rate has been floating between 1.34 and 1.37 over the last few weeks (after hitting 1.39 in October).  1.40 isn't really "inflated".

The idea of a 4090ti is kind of silly as the real up side to the 4090 is leveraging its already impressive raw power to extend the benefits of DLSS2/3. Topping off this architecture with another 10% performance just doesn't have the same punch as it used to have when the need for ever extra bit of juice was essential to hitting solid performance levels. Now the 5XXX series is another story, as I wouldn't mind ensuring that the majority of my games ran at 120FPS.

Yeah 10% just isn’t going to make any meaningful impact here because you just go down a dlss quality level if you have to worse case scenerio or it’ll be 90 instead of 99fps, it’s not like when we were trying to claw 60fps at 4k.

You were smart to use your ridiculous upgrade on the 13900k instead!

I kinda think it could be a 2080 to 2080 Ti level jump (up to 20%), but only because of the size of that friggen cooler. There’s no way they needed to up the cooling that much for 10% considering how cool the regular 4090 runs. Also, apparently the power draw could be 800-850 vs the 450-600 of the 4090

If it’s 20% then good, I’ll anticipate the gpu I buy a little over a year after this probably comes out for half the price to be about 50% more powerful than a 4090+20% then!

I ended up sticking my 4090 in the kid’s computer. Not really putting it to much use at the moment. Thinking I’ll do a completely fresh build around a 5090 next year.

Well then, I am only a man!

The Ti is now rumored to have 24gbps gddr6x vs the 21gbps of the base 4090, based on that alone it’s looking at a ~10% performance jump, if the clocks are increased too the current sentiment is pointing to my ~20% guess :p

Oh my, but still I'll hold because I'm not messing with a new PSU until I buy a 3.0 later this year.

I did some cleanup this weekend after @Xbob42 mentioned updating their motherboard bios which I haven’t done since the re-sizeable bar update two years ago. I updated the bios, did windows updates I haven’t done in awhile, and tweaked some bios settings to try to get my cpu temps/clock better and things overall seem a little nicer now.

I no longer dip below 60fps at all in that Hitman 3 level! Yes this is with dlss3 but even with frame generation it was dipping before the maintenance into the low 50s. Some of the lows in other games seem to be better now too.

Still want that 7800x3d bad though, cpu bottlenecks are just ewww
