In what way?  I'm just happy Xenoblade 3 got in after 2 didn't even get a RPG category nomination years back.

Stray is I fine little game but come on. I have no issue with Xenoblade.

If they’re gonna do the “put the obvious ones in there but throw in some smaller games” thing pick some bangers. It’s a large panel of people so maybe this is just what you get, you get the games that people actually played not the best games, but I would argue that’s bad!

Yeah, Stray sold a ton on Steam, and was the indie push for PS Extra, the combo of which is probably why they put it there.  But I think it's also a case of it being a 'banger' among many indie 'bangers' this year.  It's awfully subjective which should make the cut.

I'm more questioning Plague's Tale 2.  It's probably great.  But reviews really called it out on being by the numbers stealth in the series' second go around.  Perhaps another indie should have taken its spot instead.

That’s why criticizing the list is a fools errand, but I’m a fool so I’m comfortable with it.

Citizen Sleeper, Norco, Pentiment, vampire survivors, tunic… just a few that from my bird’s eye view that are doing a lot more interesting things than Stray or Plague’s tale.

Giant bomb (RIP) used to talk about how when things are left to a broad panel it really does come down to hey what games did people actually play versus what are actually the best games of the year, and I say that knowing again that that is a ridiculous thing to try to figure out.

I believe The Game Awards awarded It Takes Two as the game of the year last year. That should give you an idea of how these nominees and winners are going to go lol.

You fight in it but it's not really a fighting game. Most (all) fighting games have a head to head component to it. If anything Rumbleverse should have been on here as it is more of a fighting game than Sifu was.

it’s a fighting game

Video game nomenclature is dumb. You fight things in a lot of games that wouldn’t be called “fighting games”. A lot of games involve going on an adventure that wouldn’t be called “adventure games”. Either we accept the dumb conventions that have been established, or we burn it all down and start over.

I'm just there for the trailers! :sun: I'm happy for the many people who are recognized for their efforts, but I really hate award shows. So the yearly cycle is now that I hold my nose and endure as much of these shows as I can to see the new trailers then vow never to watch another one again and just wait for the high quality 4K videos that typically follow immediately after. Then I get hyped and do it to myself all over again... Silly Vic, when will you learn! :nottalking:

I'd honestly never even heard of these awards before but I'll be watching with the aim of winning a Steam Deck. I expect it to be pretty insufferable, as most award shows are. :p

This show is at least insufferable in a different way from most other awards shows. It's 20% "video games are a legit art form, please take this seriously!", 80% ads for games coming out sometime in the next 2 years.
