Got this game as a present and at about 4 hours in, I throw in the towel. Going in completely blind and this might be one of the most boring fucking games in the history of videogames. I love Point & Click games and all sorts of things but I have no idea what this is supposed to be even. I keep waiting for an actual game to start but it's like one gigantic cutscene of the worst Horror movie I've ever seen with random QTEs.

I don't get whatever this is at all. It's dreadful as a movie, there is literally no gameplay outside of pushing a direction once every few minutes, the characters' uncanny valley-ass faces are ten times more terrifying than anything in this "horror" story and it's paaaaainfully slow. I actively tried to get the last character I "controlled" killed just to see if that'd be any fun but no such luck.

Just based on my enjoyment, this is legitimately one of the worst games I've played in any recent memory whatsoever. Just baffling.

I'm with you on this, and I really loved Until Dawn.  I made it past where you are I think (Chapter 7?), and it really doesn't get any better at all.  It's crazy how completely inert and dull this game is.

I don’t get how someone could like Until Dawn but not this, that’s kinda wild to me.

Anyway I really like this game lul

Yeah I think The Quarry is pretty cool. Of course a game like this lives and dies based on the storytelling, and it just manages to stay interesting.

I don't really get the complaints about the gameplay if you like Until Dawn, isn't it basically the same thing? A branching narrative based on the decisions you make and some light QTE elements.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that this approach just felt more novel to me in Until Dawn, and I appreciated the setting more.  The pacing is way, way worse in The Quarry in my opinion.

Spoiler

I thought it was crazy how long and tedious the section in the police station was.  It seemed to be about 25% of the overall run time of what I played.

Another good example of how lifeless the game feels to me is the section where you are being chased on the bridges between lookout towers.  It's one of the first major action set pieces, and it should be tense and exciting, but it didn't really do anything for me.

The story's twists and turns worked much better for me in Until Dawn, and major events happened much earlier in the game than they do in The Quarry.

I've enjoyed all of these games to different degrees. If you like one, aside from the stories, you should like them all as they are fundamentally the same game. I think the one that took place in Iraq had some minor shooter elements. I love these games. @Bloodporne you're waaay off with these :p

I stand by my hatred of The Quarry!!!

I absolutely get not liking those games, and I can get how someone could like Until Dawn and not like The Quarry. I don’t get how someone could like how one plays and not like how another one plays tho.

Yeah, I mean I wouldn’t play any of these alone. You need a few friends to provide the fun and character since the cast usually doesn’t.

I like playing these game because it's literally playing a b horror movie and your choices have consequences. Like b-horror movies, of COURSE these games are more fun with folks but they can be enjoyed just as much alone. The replayability is awesome too... I don't think I've played one of these games where I was able to keep everyone alive... yet. I definitely feel like a marathon is coming soon. Is Until Dawn backwards compatible on PS5?

I own all of the Supermassive games except for the latest one (The Devil in Me) which I will buy this year when it’s on sale, or drops in price. I haven’t played any of them yet, but I plan to this year.

It was just on sale last week. I bought it and it should be delivered today at some point. May already be here, I've been to lazy to go check my mail box.
