Commissar SFLUFAN Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 An animated series would definitely have piqued my interest, but live-action? Ehhhhhhh... Quote
silentbob Posted March 8, 2022 Posted March 8, 2022 Now would they start with Olympus or skip right into the current GoW series setting/characters? or do they pull a This Is Us and jump back and forth between the 2 timelines? I'm kind of with @Commissar SFLUFANin thinking animated would be better. Seems like it would be the better medium for showcasing the carnage of the games nature. We know they have animated studios that are capable of that with the success of Invincible. Although they could go live action and Game of Thrones amaze us in scale/believability Quote
johnny Posted March 8, 2022 Posted March 8, 2022 animated would probably work better but if they're going to use the story from the games, you kinda already have the animation lol. Quote

Keyser_Soze Posted March 9, 2022 Posted March 9, 2022 It feels like Sony has the least interesting games to make movies / TV shows out of unless you really dig deep in to their crazy shit like Ape Escape or Jumping Flash or something. 2 Quote

I think the hesitation for gamers is retreading stories they told in the game already. Quote

Keyser_Soze Posted October 24 Posted October 24 ‘God Of War’: Ronald D. Moore Boards Amazon Series As New Showrunner DEADLINE.COM Ronald D. Moore has been tapped as writer, EP & showrunner of Sony TV and Amazon MGM Studios' Prime Video series God Of War, based on the video game. Quote
Greatoneshere Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Pretty much best case scenario, he's an excellent writer and showrunner. Hopefully he doesn't leave the show after a few seasons like he did with For All Mankind and Outlander. 1 Quote
Spawn_of_Apathy Posted October 24 Posted October 24 So two and half years into this and they haven’t even started. lol Quote

So studios are being slow and careful about what to greenlight now (unlike before, where everything seemed to get greenlit) and why we're seeing so many show cancellations and shows in pre-production be stopped. We're seeing basically the same thing in the gaming industry, where studios are cancelling numerous games in pre-production to cut costs and laying off employees and closing development studios due to lack of clear profits. We're seeing a tightening up of the belt all over the place as companies figure out how to actually make money in the current era. 1 Quote

Which is more or less why I didn't really think that this series (or a lot of the video game based shows) would end up making the cut. All these fantastic or sci-fi settings get expensive quick. Makes me wonder how much this one surviving is thanks to Sony. 1 Quote

It didn't surprise me when they cancelled Horizon but maybe they see God of War as being cheaper/easier to do or it's a more popular brand or it'll be easier for it to reach non-gaming audiences than Horizon. I hope it's not a one and done series. Quote

I hope it's not a one and done series. it could be if it is modern GOW and not PS2/PS3 era GOW. Going modern GOW it could be done almost like a modern day Hercules/Xena show that they’ll try to also make it Game of Thrones inspired. Horizon would require too much CGI and probably large sets made. 2 Quote
