Maybe they had a gentleman's agreement or something like that, but why would the New York Times really care to keep up their end of the bargain if money was on the line? If you leave the window/tab open on your phone/iPad, it retains your settings. It screwed me on another easy one 3-4 words ago when it happened on my phone.   if you want more Wordle.
