Jason
Want improved fast travel in Skyward Sword HD? Buy this $25 Amiibo! ARSTECHNICA.COM Other Switch games also hide some key gameplay features behind figurines.
GameDadGrant
I buy any and all amiibo regardless, so I’m in for this regardless. But this isn’t exactly a great look. Mostly I’m curious why this amiibo is so much more expensive than others.

Because amiibos aren't selling as much so they are gonna charge even more for the people who are gonna buy it anyway.

XxEvil AshxX
Quote That's the kind of nickel-and-diming that can potentially sour players on the value of both the game and the Amiibo associated with it. Nintendo is already charging full price for a re-release of an old Wii game. And it's probably selling like hotcakes. Nintendo has proven time and time again that their fans not only like paying for the same shit over and over again, but they salivate in anticipation of it. This will unfortunately probably make this particular Amiibo a collector's item. I also wouldn't put it past Nintendo to only make a hundred of them so that their fans can be milked by re-sellers. Paperclyp
Nintendo pulling some absolute bullshit and will get away with it Scott free? I refuse to believe it.

cusideabelincoln
Buy the NFC tags from eBay or download them to your phone to cheat the game.

TheLeon
I’ve never bought an amiibo, and this won’t be the one to break that streak.
crispy4000
Said this in the other thread, but fast travel between the sky and underworld is an incredibly minimal upgrade that doesn’t really constitute a modern fast travel system. You might even add to your game time if you jump back and forth every time there’s any small reason to. It’s still BS. But no one should skip the game because they don’t want to buy a plastic toy. I’m glad you’re giving context to how this actually affects gameplay. Man, though, it’s such a shitty thing to do almost regardless of context. Bloodporne
I can't decide what's a bigger lulz situation, the stupid toy or the fact Nintendo charges full new game price for their remasters of old-ass games.

I guess it’s kind of a toy, since you can play video games with it...though mostly what I’ve seen people do with them is display them as figurines. Of course, that’s just my anecdotal evidence. But these more recent amiibo are actually pretty cool looking and have more detail than the original run, and for collectors and statue/figure fans, it’s worth the $$$. YMMV, of course. And to be fair, these re-releases of “old ass games” aren’t typically just putting everything in HD or whatever. Pretty much each “re-release” (specifically Zelda games) have had added content, gameplay tweaks, new dungeons, modes, and features. And not for nothing, but the fact that they had to completely remake the controls so it would work with a standard controller? That alone makes this not a copy/paste situation. Wouldn’t be surprised if there was even more new content in the game that hasn’t been announced/revealed yet. That said? I’d be all for Nintendo selling me this game for a cool $20 and calling it good. Can we make that happen?!?
