Some people probably appreciate the lack of a campaign.

ive always enjoyed BF and COD short, campy campaigns. however, im fine if they remove them to focus on MP and the payoff is worth it. in this case, it makes this whole thing even more bizarre.

I think that removing things is not a bad thing by default (you need to scrap old stuff that doesn't work/isn't important and make room for new gameplay features)...but BF2042 removed a lot of important stuff, and didn't really add much good stuff. Maybe in a year or two it will be okay. But no voice comm at launch? Come on, what the fuck.

My issue with that list is the presumption that ALL of those omissions are necessarily negative when that's simply not the case.

It doesn't change the fact that BF2042 is VERY much an incomplete product, but that list lacks all context.

This is true, and I wonder how much that poster was comparing to things available at launch for each game. Things like fortifications could have been DICE's "novelty" for BFV with no plans on using it in future titles because thematically it makes more sense in a WWII setting.

Considering the lack of cover it be pretty useful. Plus stuff like a V1 strike would make breakthrough doable. Some maps put the final caps on top of a building which can only be accessed via elevators, helos, or bugged hovercraft. Teams call in AA tanks and hovercrafts. It's GG with that plus 64 players defending it.

I could see one of the future specialists being able to build fortifications. Then again maybe Irish is supposed to cover that role with his deployable barrier.

This is what EatChildren over at ResetERA posted in regard to that list and I thoroughly agree with him:

Yes, it's a shitty list, because it's just a dumb fucking checklist of stuff divorced from context as to why those changes may have taken place, nullifying an argument as to why those changes might be good or bad, by reducing the argument down to a binary "DOES IT EXIST Y/N, COS N = BAD". They didn't remove classes, they changed and reworked them; how they're set up and limited, how they're presented to the player and organised. And it's ass. I think the new specialist system is awful and doesn't lend itself to a better playing game, and I firmly believe DICE made the wrong decision. But it looks nicer on a shitpost list of Gamer Rage to put "NO CLASSES" as if that statement, in of itself, has any meaning or relevance without the discussion surrounding it.

The list is critiqued because it's lazy. And lazy is a critique aimed at gamers who do not want to unpack and discuss things, to outline where a product/project is faulted and why, because rambling off a checklist is easier than having a nuanced discussion about the content and context. So why on earth would I give it any due credit?

If you followed my posts (including, ironically, the one you're quoting) surrounding this game you'd know I don't like it. I didn't like the beta and I don't like the release. So I'm clearly not rushing to defend a "shitty product". But it's easier to assume that, handwave criticism towards lazy discussion, and continue the echochamber dogpile.

Or, in short: a stupid fucking list of "stuff removed" divorced of context or reason or discussion is not in of itself valuable discussion. It doesn't tell us why Battlefield 2042 is good or bad or where it works or where it doesn't. Some things listed highlight genuine problems and inexcusable absence of features of content. Some parts are fair observations but nevertheless nitpicks that are not indicative of why the game has issues, so much as disappointment at feature absence. Lazy discussion does not befit addressing why the game is what it is, warts and all.

I'm thinking I want this but I know better. I'm never any good at battlefield games. I'm usually always just frustrated at everything going on around me, 120 players just seems like that and much much much more! I will pick this up on sale, but I'm so looking for ward to Halo. I'll revisit this in a month and see if theres far less animosity!

You can play for up to 10 hours using a month of EA Play for $5 to see if you like it. That's what I'm doing. :dancing:

Yup. When I pick up my xsx this Wednesday I'm playing this for the 10 hours. I should have a decent time with it and I want to see the technology behind it.

Just played my first round and I generally like it, and I'm guessing my enjoyment will only increase as I learn the maps. This time I was just running around in the rain, dodging between shipping containers trying not to get blasted. :p I did manage to take out 3 enemies and revive two teammates, so it checked some Battlefield boxes for me. :dancing:

You seem to be getting a kick out of these VG247 articles. I don't read that site, but let me guess; it's one of those clickbait, fluff, spam sites that just puts out a bunch of articles on anything and everything.

Oh no - not at all.  They're usually pretty much normal.

It's just that their main PC guy was REALLY looking forward to BF2042, so he's venting his spleen on the site :p

I've put in a total of around 4 hours into this game so far and I'm very much enjoying it. It looks really great with everything on ultra.

A coworker created a server in Portal mode that is humans vs. zombies and it's been really fun to play that with him. If anyone is interested in trying it out, let me know.

Lastly, anyone who wants to, please feel free to add me on Origin if we aren't already friends: Nokra219

How do the zombies work? Just knives?

Yeah they just have knives, the damage done by body shots is turned way down, and headshots are instant kills. It's pretty intense when you're surrounded by 20-30 zombies at a time all coming at you with knives.

You're trying to plant explosives and they are actually capable of defusing.

Has there been any updates/patches for this game yet? If so, with the fee trial I have will that update too?

Yeah there have been two updates, and a larger one is planned for next week. The full details are here. I'm not sure about a free trial, but with EA Play for $5/month you do get the updates.

Edit - They do also give you a 10% discount on the full game if you use EA Play, and your progress carries over, so I guess in that way it's a free trial. :D
