Biden reiterates support for DC statehood

What should happen and hopefully will happen is that they push for both and the compromise is that DC gets absorbed into Maryland and PR becomes a state.

Neither Maryland nor DC would be okay with that outcome. It's a complete nonstarter.

Is it?

Citizens of Washington, D.C. residents should be entitled to a right to vote, as citizens of Maryland.

Maryland retrocession was long dismissed as politically impractical, perhaps because of reluctance in the Old Line State to accept the deal, but those calculations might reasonably begin to shift now that the capital city has grown exceedingly prosperous (thus making it a better fiscal bet) and has politics that no longer diverge as spectacularly from those of its neighbors to the north as in the days of former Mayor Marion Barry.

There is no good reason to create a state with 700k people in it, especially when it’s population doesn’t present any radically different needs than neighboring states which could absorb it.

PR statehood actually makes sense given it’s size and location.

Maryland doesn't want dc, dc doesn't want to be in maryland, to say nothing of the senatorial importance of adding new left leaning states

We've already got two smaller states by population, and in the coming years there may be two more states smaller still.

I don't really think it makes sense for people living in the US to lack the representation that comes with statehood. Especially during the last four years, we've seen the power that states still wield. So overall I'm in favor of DC Statehood.

Still, I don't feel like the people in DC are terribly underrepresented or otherwise forgotten, at least not to the extent that people in Puerto Rico are. Assuming the people in PR support statehood, they should be a priority.

Zero voting power in the senate. That's underrepresented

And as we got to see this past week, completely at the whims of the federal government on basic issues like road closures. There was zero consideration for the fact that people actually live within the green and red zones when setting them up.
