Reminds me of the Freddy and Jason sequels at this point where it could be really any random body-count flick with a few series tropes thrown on to tie the room together. Here we have the ultra-slick version of the originals' inventive and signature camera work and the Necronomicon I guess. I didn't expect anything from this whatsoever and that's what I got from the trailer. At least it doesn't look as dreadful as that recent Texas sequel.

Same. Recently rewatched it on Netflix and it definitely in. Also agreed. It seems like a silly thing on paper but it's actually one of the scenes that drives home exactly why Walt doesn't give a fuck anymore.

Addams Family Values is one of my favorite movies of all time and this one isn't working for me after an episode. I think I might've not been in the mood though so I'll give it another shot. And no, I'm not kidding, Values is literally one of my favorite movies ever. Arthouse shit and all be damned.

I can't even see anything related to Conan without immediately thinking The Librarian. The firehose bit is also fantastic, the kid's enthusiasm right before getting destroyed is gold.

The way RE1 Remake goes full Hitchcock with the camera is masterful. It's baffling to me that people see this as some archaic nuissance rather than an artistic choice.

I'm having a hard time with 8-1/2 by Fellini currently. I saw it several times when I was a kid, my uncle loved Fellini. Revisiting this one now, it's stunningly gorgeous, most of the sequences are great but the pacing, structure, something about it bored me to the point I had to stop halfway through. Watched another 20 minutes the next day and paused again. It's not like I don't watch all sorts of films from all eras, of all lengths and what not. I think I'm more frustrated by not enjoying it more as a film because the images are living in my head right now and the segment about his childhood bedtime is haunting me.

How about now that we know for a fact no further explanations are even coming.

This is getting fucking stupid and I didn't even like this damn show.

One huge tip I keep repeating: Go into Options and turn on Auto-Run. I really don't know why it isn't on by default but the entire game revolves around speed and fast positioning more than anything else. You can outrun a lot of projectiles and enemies in this game. The biggest hinderance is playing it like a modern TPS. Think of it like a Contra-style arcade game but in a modern 3D package more than anything. At first it feels really fast for precision movement in some instances but you'll get used to it quickly and the benefits are huge imo.

I'd actually get that on PS4/PS5 instantly

One of those "wow, we can do that now!?" games for me. It felt way ahead of its time, that's what I remember most about it. That and that it felt like a lived-in world. Would love to revisit it. I guess PC is the way?

I think my issue is going from RE1 Remake straight to Zero. The drop in tone especially is rough.

I also played Firewatch. I can't say I disliked it particularly but it was a bit of a wet fart. An extremely short and thin wet fart. Gladly it was on sale. The fact it had the guy from Mad Men as a voice actor was kind of the best part.

I kinda miss its characters like when a great TV show ends. I doubt it somehow but I think this game absolutely could have a great sequel focused on other crazy shit going on in its world with some of this game's cast popping in here and there as paths intersect.

Dead Cells I'm at around 15 hours I think and I'm getting kind of bored of it despite the great core gameplay. The final boss sucks fucking major ass design-wise and I have no interest in grinding through another 20 runs to beat this thing. It's a really fun game but the level design is too repetitive and boring for me.

Blow Out (1981) - 6.5/10 I feel bad rating this relatively low but a 7 feels a tad too generous. I had tried to watch this one before but fell asleep and just never tried again in the VHS days. Rewatching it now, I kinda get why. It's visually absolutely great. Gorgeous, moody locations left and right and shot by Vilmos Zsigmond. The performances are mainly good as well minus the disruptive Manny actor, he goes so hard that he feels like a goofy caricature and it took me out of it every time he showed up. That being said, I think the visuals and mood carry the whole film because the plot isn't terribly exciting nor interesting and the pacing especially throughout the middle is rough. Maybe it's just not my cup of tea but it reminded me of a Giallo minus the climaxes of gory killings. It's a really cool idea and I liked the setup and opening sequence but I mostly felt rather bored which is surprising for a De Palma flick. It's really well-made and all but it just didn't grab me and felt tedious overall. The score didn't grab me either. PS: I'm on a major lazy-ass staycation so these will be rolling in regularly I believe 😬

Shivers (1975) - 8/10 In my ongoing Cronenberg revisits and/or first time viewings, I finally worked my way back to Shivers. I had seen clips of it here and there but somehow never the complete film. It reminded me of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and other no/low budget Horror flicks of that era that completely transcend their budget with pure drive and raw, visceral energy. Much like a badass demo tape, it's the utter rawness and weirdness and mixture of amateurish incompetence and ambition that makes this movie so cool. There's something magical about the "technically totally wrong" ultra-bright white lighting, the sterile and alien looking sets, the weirdly natural yet stilted action. Then there are shots like the one below that are surprisingly eerie in the film's context and also show Cronenberg's great eye despite his absurdly low $170,000 budget. The ending sequence in the pool really stuck with me in general. It's absolutely a silly B-movie in some ways yet also feels way ahead of its time in others. I liked this much more than The Fly for example and the ending even stuck the landing. Another thing of note is that I love the actors Cronenberg casts in his earlier films, there are just so many memorable faces and unique looking people. What Did Jack Do? (2020) - 8.5/10 I ended up watching this three times over the past two days and my girlfriend and I laughed our fucking asses off. Based on some of the reactions we saw online, I think people, somehow, really miss the amount of absurd humor and goofball antics in Lynch's work in general. It's surprising to me personally but I also get that the mixture can throw people off. Anyway, it's a Film Noir spoof where David Lynch is a hardboiled detective interrogating a Lynch Monkey named Jack who may have murdered his woman's lover in a jealous rage. His woman is...a chicken named Toototaban. The name is uttered approximately fifty times in 16 minutes and somehow gets funnier every time. There's a musical number, a hilariously dramatic ending involving Toototaban the chicken clucking through a full-on Eraserhead set and Jack having a complete meltdown. Maybe I have issues but to me, this is comedy gold and I'm baffled that some write this off as "pretentious bullshit". Like at what point do you see that ending with Lynch yelling CUFF 'EM BOYS! about a chicken and monkey in an Eraserhead set and not laugh?

Nah, unfortunately not. My sis and mother left New York a long time ago for Florida and they don't really speak. Rhe rest of my family is on a different continent. I've got a nice Xmas/holidays planned though. First I'm having a Seinfeld marathon and drinks with my best friend and tomorrow and Monday it's full Xmas with my girlfriend, her twin girls and her family. They're a huge Caribbean clan so there's always a million cool people, party atmosphere and killer food for days.

That's some really well done cover art, visually striking. Movie sounds interesting and I tend to watch movies that are that long in two nights anyway, no biggie. Might check this out, thanks.
