  1. I grew up in a small town near Twin Falls, Idaho, about 4 hours from Salt Lake City. Though the town had fewer than 2,000 people, it had seven or eight different denominations' churches (Baptist, Methodist, Assembly of God, etc.) and the Mormon church was by far the biggest/most popular. A good third of my classmates were Mormons, and in fact my best friend from elementary school through high school is Mormon (he had 11 siblings and now has four kids of his own; I have a dog ).
  2. Yeah I think I would have left also but actually told the manager why. IMO it needs to become culturally completely unacceptable to go to work when you're sick.
  3. Interesting. Reading more about it, it sounds like Mormons consider themselves Christians but many Catholics and (eastern) orthodox religions, as well as many Protestants, don't consider them Christian. I grew up in Mormon country and always took them at face value when they claimed they were Christian, but didn't really ever deep dive into their theology, because what I did hear of it already sounded crazy enough. TIL!
  4. It also seems very odd to me that only 53% of Democrats are saying Romney is a person of faith... Isn't that one of his biggest identity claims, and unlike Trump he's actually got credibility there?!

    it da new year

    Happy New Year, fellow D1Pshits!
  6. That's a great way to get some reading done! Makes me miss my student days in Germany when I could set my own schedule, so it almost always included sitting by the river and reading for an hour every day. Now my 8-5 (plus 1.5 hour total commute) M-F doesn't leave me much free time during the week and I've been prioritizing gaming. Then, at least in good weather I try to get out and do some hiking and such on the weekends. But it's the rainy season, so maybe it's the reading season. Anyway... Probably a hard question, but: What would be your top picks for 1)nonfiction and 2) fiction books you read this year?
  7. I'm optimistic about 2024. I've got some big trips planned (Germany, Hawaii), I'm going to get into a regular exercise habit, I'm developing new skills at work... Life is pretty good overall.
  8. Damn, 118 in a year is still impressive, IMO. My personal best was something like 60 and you blew that completely out of the water! This year I'm at something like 10 books or less. Working life sucks, man.
  9. That sucks man, sorry to hear it. Losing loved ones is always terrible. My condolences for you and your family.
  10. Knowing nothing of these Pitbull shavers: can you just 1)clean the head or 2) buy a whole new head? It may just be clogged or dull, and cleaning/replacing could be sufficient.
  11. I think if you told them of their mistake and they made another, it would severely impact my willingness to believe they'd handle fixing it correctly. There also may be a bug or delay in the system that causes it to refund automatically right away but charge again later. As long as it's not a huge cost, I'd probably just leave it, I think. If it was a small mom and pop shop I'd definitely go back and talk to someone to try and figure it all out, but with such a huge company I'm not sure it's really worth anybody's time to worry about it.
  12. Just knowing what a dishonest piece of crap Trump is, I'm guessing that this is a Wordcloud of what the "liberal media" is saying about him, which he will use to again claim victim status.
  13. I've never used the digital codes since I just rip them myself so I'm curious: Do the digital versions from the codes usually include some kind of DRM? And Happy Holidays!
  14. And includes a mouse cursor.
  15. Good haul, @SoberChef! On a side note: Something I didn't even realize when I started buying 4K movies but for which I'm grateful is how many of them come with not only the 4K Blu-ray but also the "standard" Blu-ray. Getting that standard Blu-ray feels like a nice bonus and makes it much easier to e.g. 1)rip to my hard drive and 2)watch at someone else's house who hasn't yet upgraded to 4K.
  16. My family and I watched Elf (with Will Ferrell) and A Charlie Brown Christmas last night and we'll probably watch It's a Wonderful Life in the next couple of days.
  17. I mean, I live in Portland so I've unfortunately seen more human shit on the streets than I ever expected to in my life, but...
  18. Please tell me this isn't human shit and piss...
  19. I clicked the link expecting it to be $100. It's only $25?! That's nuts!
  20. A more accurate/complete headline would be: "Colorado supreme court justices face death threats after Trump ruling and right-wing media incitement."
  21. Yeah it can be a million things; politics, religion, or philosophy... Multidimensionalism is way more interesting.
