  1. I think re-doing CGI is less offensive than adding in CGI that was never there in the first place. I'd rather them just stick to updating the models, textures, and lighting, and trying to minimize the obvious fact of green screen scenes like the Merry and Pippin riding Treebeard.
  2. Unfortunately you probably have a lot of work ahead of you because you can't rule out software issues. Specifically, Windows Security Updates have been breaking things since September. In my particular circumstance I had to rollback (and by that I mean that nooooooooooo I couldn't just use System Restore I had to actually manually uninstall the update) the updates (and actually pause them too until I know for sure they fix the issues) because my VPN client on two different machines just stopped running. The .exe would launch and then immediately crash with no warning messages of any kind. Also Launchbox did the same exact thing. And after googling the issue, the update also broke multichannel sound for other people, would cause the Start menu to malfunction, and made WiFi adapters stop working. After you troubleshoot a few other hardware issues, I would go to your Windows Update History and start uninstalling them them from newest to oldest around the time you started having these crashes. Although you should probably google to see if anyone else is having the issue first with similar hardware to yours. Then don't rule out video drivers. Nvidia has been known to release drivers that will literally blow up your card. Also the 970 is getting pretty old and low on their priority list, and we can't forget that the split VRAM situation of the card means they actually do need to provide extra code for it which perhaps they borked or forgot about it or just don't care anymore.
  3. Make this into a fully AI controlled option which the player can jump into/out of on demand, and call it Joint Engagement System Utilizing Source. When a player boots a game they will be asked, "Would you like JESUS to take the wheel? "
  4. Well, no amount of RAM or processing power can make the shitty Origin application feel snappy.
  5. And if he does have a 3DS, he should get A Link Between Worlds.
  6. A Link to the Past should feel pretty familiar to you off the back of Link's Awakening. It's my favorite of the series. It can be lengthy the first time through, as the dungeons get bigger and bigger the further you go into the game. The story is very light, though, as most is left up to your imagination and the instruction booklet. Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess are the most alike in structure, with Twilight Princess being an evolution in terms of gameplay. But Ocarina does have a tight and well defined story that I still enjoy experiencing to this day, while Twilight Princess has some really fun dungeons. Wind Waker is the most different of the ones you haven't played. There is an element of Breath of the Wild in that you can sail your boat anywhere, and discovering islands is exciting. The story is also quite good, and the game has references to other Zelda games. And lastly Skyward Sword is unique in its control scheme. The sword combat is excellent and the bow aiming is neat - but I don't personally care for any of the other motion controlled actions. The story is pretty epic, and you can see the beginnings of BotW's crafting/upgrading/collecting system.
  7. Better off upgrading only when you are dissatisfied with current performance. The Techspot article shows a pretty good 15% advantage from the slowest to fastest memory in games, when not GPU-bound. And I'll throw this article into the mix: https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/3508-ryzen-3000-memory-benchmark-best-ram-fclk-uclock-mclock Summary: Basically, if you don't want to manually tune timings of your memory (like what Techspot did) then make sure the kit you buy has been tested by your motherboard manufacturer. Also clocking the Infinity Fabric higher will get nice gains. Also, obviously, none of this really matters at 4k right now. Every GPU will struggle to feed the CPU at that resolution. But me, personally, I like to have my cake and eat it too. I'll play my single player games maxed out, but any multiplayer game I will tweak to get maximum framerates - as close to 144 hz as possible. And I think I might take the plunge and get a 240 Hz monitor as a secondary, dedicated, online First Person Shooter display.
  8. GTA5's shooting mechanics are still well below every other major third/first person game. But what other games have spoiled me on is the responsiveness of character movement. Breath of the Wild has spoiled the constrains of obstacles and barriers (like walls). Games like Apex, Titanfall, Just Cause, Akrham series, Middle-Earth, and etc have spoiled me on vertical-ity. Open world games without a quick way to maneuver around and/or OVER obstacles just feel so antiquated. Red Dead probably won't suffer as much from this because of it's overworld design and setting, but I find free roaming in GTA5 boring because of this.
  9. Seems like a good time frame for AMD to also have a Navi refresh, or simply release more SKUs on more a mature 7nm.
  10. Widow. I've got a 20" CRT in my basement with some excel spreadsheet burned in, but it can do 16x12 @85 hz! How much can I get for that kind of sweet vintage nostalgia?
  11. A lot of of the year's UHD releases will go on sale for Black Friday, $10-20. Last year all of the major new releases were $15 from places like Best Buy, Target, Walmart.
  12. So when connecting to my first lobby/match today, the very first thing I heard from voice chat was, "...fucking stupid little niggas." COD has the worst "community"
  13. DDR4 3600 to 3800 is the sweet spot for high performance memory, so that isn't too outrageous (~$100 for 16GB). If you can snag 3800 memory, tweak the timings if you buy a cheaper kit, and overclock the Infinity Fabric a little bit, then you'll have Ryzen running at its fullest potential. But if you were building purely a gaming PC, the 9900k is definitely a good option even when the 3900x is at retail. Just being able to hit 5 GHz on all cores all the time is a huge advantage for Intel - and pretty much every 9900k can do that overclock. *Note: Intel will definitely be a better option if you care about high-framerate gaming. But if you're looking to strictly game at 4k, then any $200+ processor will be more than adequate now and for the next couple GPU generations.
  14. It's apparently double buffered instead of triple buffered V-sync, so any frames that drop below 60 even for a split second - or a frame that without V-sync would produce something like 55 fps - will automatically go all the way down to 30. G-sync/Freesync are going to be so good for next gen consoles.
  15. I had not even heard of Control until after it released, and there was not much word of mouth prior to release.
  16. Memory bandwidth and latency also becomes important with increased speed and core counts. Zen 2 gets a huge boost with DDR 4000+ or tight timings. https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/3508-ryzen-3000-memory-benchmark-best-ram-fclk-uclock-mclock I'm sure this 5 ghz chip needs fast memory too.
  17. I platinum'd God of War (PS4) last night. I'm excited about what the next gen version of this game will look like. I hope they take full advantage of the increased loading speeds of the PS5 and create levels that are dynamic on a massive scale. I really enjoyed how the environments changed (particularly the Lake of Nine), but if they can actually integrate that type of change into the core gameplay and do it more often, perhaps on an even bigger scale, and most importantly do it on the fly by taking advantage of the the PS5's SSD, then we'll have something incredibly special to play.
  18. TP has the most interesting dungeon design, of the console Zeldas. The biggest problem (I have) with the game is the (dated) design/technical aspect. It's obvious the overworld design was held back by the hardware of the time. While the game is pretty big, there's almost nothing to do when traversing different areas, and it can take a long time to travel from location to location. This sparsity creates a conflict in the tone the story sets for you - the tone which tries to make Link feel more connected to the world and NPCs. If you can look past this, though, then the game is quite good. But for me, when I try to replay it I just want to skip all the bloat and hit the dungeons and the few set pieces back to back.
