Politicians use wordplay like this because it reinforces their message and makes it more memorable, not because it’s funny.

Calling it “Justinflation” reinforces that JT’s policies have strongly contributed to our current inflation.

It's hyperbolic outrage from the National Post (right-wing rag newspaper). Here is a quote from one of the physicians:

Quote

Dr. Louis Roy, from the Quebec College of Physicians, told the Commons’ Special Joint Committee of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) on Friday that his organization believes MAID can be appropriate for infants up to age one who are born with “severe malformations” and “grave and severe syndromes” for which their “prospective of survival is null, so to speak.”

They are not recommending this for infants, they are saying it could be appropriate depending on the individual infant and the outlook they have. It's the same as considering abortion for fetuses with no chance of survival, only in this case the terminal issue has been discovered after birth. And again, they are not recommending it, but saying it could be considered.

Also I am not in favour of this, but it's not as outrageous as the right wing is making it sound (but they need something to take up the rage space).

Suggesting that we kill children with parental consent is outrageous.  Children are incapable of giving consent to end their lives.

Their suggestion was not to limit it to children with terminal diseases.

Certainly a much more poignant issue than the metadata an intern setup to post youtube videos 5 years ago.

People who think parents are just going to terminate their child on a whim again can just fuck off. My family is emotionally scarred for the difficult choices we have had to make over the years so that our 5th attempt finally lead to our healthy 1 year old.

So again, if you're starting from the point of a slippery slope you're not here for a rational discussion. So you and your opinion can just go fuck off.

This. Like there’s a reason why late second and third trimester abortions are so rare. At that point people are trying for these kids to be healthy but if they are on track to have a short and painful life it’s fucking devastating.

but like all conservative moral

panics it’s either projection of something they want to do (“aborting babies after birth!”) or belief that without the law people will be lawless which is largely not true (except for them)

The federal government is extending employment insurance sickness benefits to 26 weeks, up from 15 weeks, Employment Minister Carla Qualtrough announced on Friday.

Good news. Helps a lot of people that don't have short/long-term disability through their work.

Canada, fix this. Though this is the least surprising result ever.

Trudeau spoke a day after a paraplegic veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces shocked lawmakers by revealing she had been offered medically-assisted death by a VAC employee.

Quote

On Thursday, retired corporal Christine Gauthier, who is paraplegic, told the House of Commons standing committee on veterans affairs that the topic of assisted dying was raised during a years-long fight for a home wheelchair lift.

Yeah, totally unacceptable. The option of MAID should be there for almost anyone who wants it, provided they have either a terminal illness or a chronic, untreatable illness that affects quality of life. But pushing it on people because there aren't other forms of financial assistance to help them live better lives is criminal.
