I just finished Horizon. How's the performance and stutter looking on PC on the latest patch? I still have a ton of various games to play in my backlog so if it's still being sorted I'll wait a bit longer.

Currently downloading this on my Steamdeck. I gotta say, I really like the screen and the build quality of this. It's a little bit heavy, but otherwise it is exactly what I want from a handheld as far as functionality goes. 

I got the 256gb version, but I also bought 3 256gb cards to store games on. I'll definitely be playing Monster Hunter Rise on it as well. 

 

Gonna be a while before I start a new game on this in earnest, because of Elden Ring, so ill give more detailed thoughts on the games performance on it in a while. Need to get through it on PS5 first.

 

Gamepass on this would be so good!

I would say there's no one answer, it depends on your PC. I've had very little performance problems on my computer. I'd say like the worst thing is the lag spikes (at least I assume that's what they are) where it looks like the game freezes but I'm pretty sure it's lag 🤷‍♀️

Game has never crashed and did me the favor of forcing me to uninstall EGS to work.

Okay thanks. I did google around a bit and found video is it having the same kind of long spiky lag with the latest patch. I might wait a bit longer before jumping in. Since normally I don't play these games, I figure I wait to get the best version of it to give it the best chance of turning me around!

It'll turn you around just for the abundance of sites of grace. Fast travel is all over the place which takes away some of the difficulty and annoyance from the other titles. I'm technically new to this series and have been very successful.

Just firing it up this morning. They did a great job making it simple. Just using a steam os was the right move.

I like the ambient music a lot in this game. Especially in The Academy, it's fantastic.

 

That being said, they doubled down on that boring 'blaring pompous fantasy music' for the boss OSTs and to me it's just background noise. There's nothing like Moonlight Butterfly or the fucking amazing surprise of a theme like the final boss in Dark Souls.

 

DS1 and original Demon's Souls were my favorites and the most memorable for me. Very different and atypical back then

I mean I've certainly nitpicked things and have my gripes but overall it's just a massive achievement of a game that's absurdly addictive and fun to play. It also helps that they outdid themselves again on the aesthetics front. Most modern games can't even dream of having just one area as well designed as the Capital for example.

holy shit I finally got to my third great rune fight

and beat it without coop and on like my 6th try, didn’t expect that, just assumed I would use coop when I got here, glad I tried by myself. Love my grafted greatsword, he couldn’t stand the thing.

Damn. I heard he is one of the more difficult bosses in the game. I only attempted him 2 times but I was way under leveled. That's impressive.

Maybe he’s super nerfed since the latest patch? I also feel like there might be something story related that helped the fight for me:

 

I made friends with the wolf head guy prior while trying to find this place to begin with and he agreed to join the fight so I did have ai help to draw attention, idk if you always get this or not

 

Besides that he simply couldn’t take too many hits from my sword so I would just stay super far away on my horse until I knew I could at least lay one good one in and he got knocked down twice allowing me to really swing some fast ones in. Also helped he couldn’t one hit kill me like some others besides one super obvious move.

lol well there might be a chance that I’m accidentally good at horseback. Riding out and then charging back in towards an opening with my sword grinding against the ground preparing for an upwards swipe is super fun for me. Whereas that kind of walk back and wait and then go in and attack while on foot that isn’t fun for me at all so I tend to go in for quick swings to try to overpower before they can respond back enough to kill me. I’m like that with everything, don’t block much in fighting games, only like playing offense in football games (virtual or when I used to irl), etc.

The coolest part of having don’t Blaiid’s quest up until that point is the status of Redmane castle when you arrive. I had to check online to make sure my game wasn’t glitching haha!!

 

Radahn down!!! Took 13/14 tries. Big shout out for the Rot Breath tip. A little cheesy but I also didn’t use my horse and fought him naked (the light roll is way more useful in that fight than the armor) so I think those things all cancel each other out and I can still be proud of how I beat him 😂

So adventures in defining the meta isn't working. I think it's better to just two hand the commander's standard then use it in combo with another halberd. Dual weapons are just too stamina intensive.

Game Complete, got the evil ending I guess.  Probably gonna take a break for a bit before deciding if I want to do a new game, or start on PC with a new character.

 

Also, what do you lose with New Game+?  Do you keep all items, consumables, ect?  Just resets the world basically?  Want to make sure I don't lose anything before starting it.

If you follow Blaidd’s quest he tells you that there’s festival going on with the battle against Radahn as some kind of contest. As a result everyone is “at the festival” so there’s no troops defending the castle both outside and inside. You can just run right in. It also removes a mid-level boss fight you have to do before even reaching Radahn. 
 

If you haven’t been following the quest then the castle is stacked full of defenders. After the fight you can go back to the church and talk to the “host” of the festival and he can reset all the defenders in case you’re a psycho and want to run through the castle full haha

The reason I wanted to post that thing about the music is because I knew the final boss music was going to be a banger. Like, they almost always knock it out of the park with their final boss music.

I mean it is, the main menu theme turned up to 11 13 and fuck it is great. I wish I could share it right now. The pre-final boss has great music as well. 

But yeah, it is hella epic and I wanted to make sure my opinion didn't get over taken from the hype. 

 

The ambient music is ok at best. It's totally fine most of the time, but there were times were it was grating and I wanted to turn it off but was too lazy.

Speaking of Redmane Castle. I forgot to go back through it after beating Radahn but do all those locked doors ever unlock somehow? First time through, every door seemed to be locked and barely any part accessible.
