Can someone please tell me how to get back to the roundtable hold? I was transported there really early in the game but have know idea how to get back there. :(

Lower left hand corner of the map has the point for it.

BotW will always be greater than anything From has ever done because you can pause the game. Not being able to pause the game when you’re not on the network is so skull fuckingly stupid and anyone that supports the practice should be yeeted into orbit.

But my new awesome sword I found in that dungeon in BotW broke after I hit an enemy 5 times, so it kinda evens out.

Or you know just clear out your immediate area and wait. I do it all the time when my dogs need or want something while I play.

Also I generally play MP games so I am used to not being able to pause.

I think BotW handles weapon durability about as well as a game could, but I’m not going to die on the hill that it’s some kind of great design choice; I absolutely understand why people don’t like it. And there are other QOL improvements that it absolutely should have.

That said Nintendo wasn’t so stupid as to not include a quest log in their open world game. :p

Do you guys use the Golden Runes as soon as you get them, or save them?

I never really spend them, typically save them for Vendors, as I always remember running into vendors that sell shit I want and hate needing to go farm souls to buy stuff.

ill typically use them if im close to getting a new level so i dont fuck up and lose them :p

Save em and use em for purchases or to hit the next lvl without needing to grind.

Nah, i love botw, but it's flaws were apparent from the beginning. The world was empty aside from shrines and a couple of villages. The divine beasts were certainly not great dungeons. I love that game, but I was not this high on it when it launched.

Ovarina was an incredible achievement, and I also love that game, but its 25 years old, and not nearly as good as Elden Ring. Personally my favorite Zelda is still ALttP.

Also the weapon breaking thing in BOTW spoils the experience a lot. I enjoy BOTW (still haven't beaten it) but Elden Ring and its' aesthetic are definitel more my speed. Also, this:

The Lands Between are more of a link to Souls' own past.

Saw this and thought of this topic.

For a reskin of the Flame Monk set, it's really nice.  Also, Frost + Bleed is just dumb in this game. I defeated a few bosses last night with zero effort between using bleed grease and hoarfrost stomp.

Was happy to find a reimagined Whirligig Saw too.

  Reveal hidden contents

Bleed is so gonna get nerfed.

That's what I do as well. I have a ton of them.

It's not stupid... it's a design choice and it works clearly.

It’s a bad design choice, part of From’s dedication to opacity for opacity’s sake. I love Bloodborne, and it’s rife with this stuff. Tell this person “Go to x” and they go to Y instead, talk to this NPC periodically or you’ll miss that they’ve changed, this one window that looks like so many other windows in the game has an NPC you can talk to, assuming you don’t wait too long, etc. To say nothing of the notion that without looking at a wiki the overwhelming majority of players will have had no idea what the hell that game is even about.

I appreciate that these are deliberate design decisions done in the interest of vibes, and that’s fine. But an open world game where you get quests from NPCs where the game gives no built in way to track them is just bad.

I mean, the average person lives one headline, one social media post, one TikTok video at a time.. so I guess we shouldn't expect them to do some actual exploration and engage their brains. I'm sure From knows their audience and well, nothing is stopping anyone from *GASP* picking up pad, pen and taking notes. I can't stand this goblin, but even he gets it.

Painting this as a “brain engagement” is incorrect and part of the “get gud” mentality that is a pervasive and exhausting aspect of From fandom. The game doesn’t NEED a map, does it? They could just list out places where you’ve unlocked Grace / the save point. After all, gamers used to have to make their own maps, too. There’s a difference between putting hovering arrows over everything and having you unerringly directed towards a quest, and having something in-game reminded you that Lady X wanted you to deliver Gizmo Y to Guy Z, especially when the game structure makes it possible that you won’t see the next step in that quest for a dozen hours+, and NPCs in From games are capable of referencing things that seem like quests that actually aren’t.

90%+ of the lore in these games is in the menus anyway, so it’s not like From is opposed to putting information in places where gameplay doesn’t happen. Having a bestiary that tracks drops or mob locations would make the game meaningfully better, keep people out of wikis, and wouldn’t affect the gameplay and discoverability one iota, which is most of what makes the games special anyway.

FWIW Miyazaki mentioned in the New Yorker article that he specifically designs to generate community engagement; he actively wants people to reference Wikis, pass along tips on social media, etc. because that’s the type of experience he wants to cultivate.

I am aware; this is dumb. If it’s stuff like lore? Fine, I get it. You don’t need to know what is happening is Bloodborne to have a good time with it and honestly, more games should be less up their own ass about these things. For stuff like quests? No, it’s just bad design.

Of course it's by design... it's why the messages and blood stains exist. This is what, From's 8th souls game? they know what they're doing. Shit they did similar stuff in older game series. One of the first games I ever downloaded and printed out a F.A.Q. for was the first Armored Core game on the PS1. They've always emplyed this "less is more" approach. Nothing new here except to those who are new to these games.

I would tend to agree, just wanted to get the point in before Lucian Lucian’d out over any perceived FromSoft flaw.

You guys dual wielding, two handing or sword and boarding? Blocking is kinda pointless in this game so I focus on two handing for the most part. In DS3 I

Sword and shield is fun but if you are worried about Invaders two handing is superior. Since it's more stamina efficent to just dodge and you only need to hit 27Str to soft cap str thus saving levels for other stats.

Oh god please, this thread has been great, can we not go into the From Are Stupid Elitsts vs. Go Play Ubisoft thing that every Souls thread turns into?

Resetera is swarmed by that. Though I fall solidly in the "git gud" camp.

Don’t worry we morph these things into drama filled personal attacks and conspiracies.
