You will never see an alien.

I want to though. I'd love it if NASA discovered life on another planet, even if it was just primitive life. Seeing an alien animal would be exciting.

I'd love it too, but the odds are against us.

I'd still say low chances, but well within the real of possibility that we'll discover basic life in underground Mars lakes or in the underground oceans of Europa or Titan. Probes to investigate that stuff will happen in our life time unless you die young or we kill ourselves. As such, we very well may see aliens.

the only chance we ever have at proving the existence of alien life will probably be through radio telescopes and such, but we would have to massively upgrade and improve our equipment. I think funding SETI to massively expand their search is the only chance we ever have of finding evidence of intelligent life. Travelling and meeting in person definitely is not in the cards (and I wish it was, more than anyone).

Even then, if we detected signals, it could be from species that are already long dead.
