CastletonSnob
What if the GameCube used regular DVDs like the PS2 and Xbox? How much better would it have sold?
stepee
Like double but that’s it
crispy4000
Pretty sure storage capacity was just an excuse made not to port to it. Same with the lack of an L2 button. At least history has been kind to the console in hindsight. It was a very competitive spec machine for 2/3rd the cost, and it’s exclusives were pretty great. chakoo
It might have done a little better and have less games cancelled over the media size but ultimately it wouldn't have really changed much.
gamer.tv
About as well as the Xbox… I loved (and still love) the GameCube, but it’s disc choice wasn’t the cause of its failure.
Reputator
I feel like it would have gotten a handful more cross-platform ports but anything that needed dual analog would have still turned off a lot of gamers.
Keyser_Soze
It would have been the best selling console of all time.
cusideabelincoln
Then it wouldn't be a cube anymore.

5timechamp
… the real question is how well would it have done if there was no Xbox, because that means Nintendo has the most powerful console… would devs have put out more multi disc games to compensate for the Cube lack of storage? Cartridges vs discs hurt Nintendo the previous generation, how many more devs would they have gotten back?
XxEvil AshxX
That's actually a legit question, because the fact that the PS2 doubled as a DVD player was a BIG deal back in the day. I knew a lot of friends that bought it to use as a movie player first and a game console second. Even friends that weren't "gamers" had one. Sure, the Xbox played movies also, but if you asked the common person about it, they didn't have a clue what the Xbox even was.

Also you needed the remote to play movies.

That year head start really mattered in how much that DVD playing ability mattered. Here's an article from March of 2002 showing that the price of a DVD player had gone from nearly $200 in 2001 to $100 in early 2002. A $200 Gamecube that plays DVDs would have been a huge deal in 2000, but by the end of 2001 (in part thanks to the PS2) it was more of an afterthought.
