US Censorship: Oklahoma teacher put on leave after sharing link to public library website

Recommended Posts

Oklahoma's HB 1775 is one of those bills banning teachers from talking about race, discrimination, trans issues, etc.

It prohibits discussion of "discrimination on the basis of race or sex in the form of bias, stereotyping, scapegoating, classification, or the categorical assignment of traits, morals, values, or characteristics based solely on race or sex," and allows the state to remove accreditation for schools that violate it.

School boards are so afraid that they are suspending and firing people who might have violated it. This is one such case:

Because the school district removed so many books, the teacher shared a link to the public library if students wanted access to any books they wanted. The teacher was then immediately placed on leave.

Here is the QR code that was too dangerous to allow kids to see:

It’s for a fucking PUBLIC library that ANYONE can enter and leave with a book from. Fucking idiots calling Democrats snowflakes, and these people can’t allow a free link to read a book. Fuck your states and their iron thumb rules of what you’re allowed to read. If they can allow white nationalists to march/spew their hate speech in public, but god forgive if you read about racism in a book at a public library. The hypocrisy is just mind blowing and something needs to be done to stop this unnecessary censorship. We need a good George Carlin type guy (Stewart?) to help people get the bigger picture, and also to tell them to “Fuck Right Off” if they feel the least bit offended

This doesn’t seem like censorship to me. Isn’t censorship more like when someone criticizes me for using racial slurs?

This isn't censorship because this is AMERICA where we have FREEDOM of speech. Thread title was just made by a jealous Canadian who wishes he was as free as his brothers to the south.

You liberals are lucky they didn't get rid of these "libraries" decades ago. When you think about it, the whole concept of a PUBLIC library sounds pretty commie pinko socialist to begin with.

What would private libraries look like.  Would it just be chapters gift cards for poor people?

Imagine Barnes and noble but you can’t read in store

but libraries do more than just books anymore so it’s not an apt comparison. But a private model would only do what makes money
