  1. I hated Halloween more than @Emblazon Fuck that stupid movie. And I'm siding with Skillz just because he posted in my thread first and I'm street loyal, I don't actually care about that argument.
  2. I managed to never play Halo beyond like the first two levels of the original Xbox one. I thought it was really boring when it came out and I played it at my friends house honestly. I was really into Doom, Duke 3d, Blood, Hexen etc. and this game seemed really tame and slow in comparison. Wondering if I should break out the dusty 360 and give the series a real go.
  3. Your dog is fucking awesome and better than basically all dogs ever so your opinion doesn't count.
  4. Deep-dive with the cinematographer from Kodak's website. I admittedly don't understand a lot of this jargon but it still fascinates me. Also, I really like the idea of at least attempting to be "true" to the period, it's lovely. I've recorded a few albums in my time and I love vintage recording techniques and equipment so I can really get into shit like this when looking at film despite not really knowing the technical details. I don't know if it's how the shadows are photographed in this format or what, but it almost looks like he's using some pretty old school makeup as well based on some stills.
  5. From what I've read, they used actual, or at least partially, old school equipment and lenses. I'll edit if I can find the quote.
  6. Paging @Greatoneshere and @skillzdadirecta Anyone wanna nerd the fuck out on the cinematography or anything else, yeah?
  7. That sounds like an exciting and thoroughly artistically satisfying album, yes...
  8. Walking Simulator? Ew. That being said, have you played SOMA? Wondering if it's similar to that? I loved that game and typically hate walking sims with a passion. I haven't played Layers of Fear. Thanks though for giving it a shot! (and possibly saving me money )
  9. I haven't read much about it but this trailer positively reeks of a potential Lovecraft fest, one to do his material justice maybe for once based on the aesthetics and Eggers' spot-on handling of the folklore in The Witch.
  10. I'm not a big Smiths nor Morrissey fan but I was curious about this...until I read it's unauthorized, doesn't feature any of the music and was written before Morrissey's actual biography was released. Basically, I absolutely love music bio pics/docus/anything but even I'm pretty disinterested after seeing some reviews and stills. I do think Morrissey had some fantastic lyric writing abilities but beyond that I'm not so sure why he even particularly requires a bio pic to be honest.
  11. The more I talk about it, the more I remember how bad it actually was in terms of moment-to-moment gameplay. I remember that specifically as well now, the encounters were always spaced out too far and lasted like five seconds because maybe three monsters or so would teleport into your area and done. The only time more monsters hit the screen that I recall were those stupid ass spiders and babies.
  12. For a game reliant on jump scares it only had approximately two variations on top of it. There were attempts to mimic the old school Doom monster closets only devoid of any of the mayhem that would ensue in the originals and then there was this: 1. Enter pitch black room (yes) 2. Enemies teleport in front of you and behind you every single time allowing absolutely zero strategy 3. Take damage and screen shakes so uncontrollably people had to come up with a patch
  13. Funny part was that the game was no more fun to play even after the "duct tape" patch hit back in the day. Most of the encounter designs especially were kind of exposed as repetitive, boring and overly reliant on the amazingly fun gameplay feature of constantly toggling that stupid flashlight.
  14. There's Brutal Doom 64 (PC) which is a faithful recreation and all the Brutal Doom "extras" can be turned off. It also restores several previously unused Doom 64 enemies that were cut due to cartridge size etc. Do yourself a favor and play it, it's fucking splendid, seriously. Edit: Just wanted to check real quick and apparently there's a more strictly exact port of Doom 64 out there if you're more purist about it. Here's a comparison video. These run on basically anything as you can imagine:
  15. Slog is the perfect term for Doom 3. I've tried time and time again to actually play all the way through it and it's just too fucking tedious and boring. The originals are some of my favorite games of all time so I kept thinking I simply maybe didn't get it. It kind of substitutes everything that worked flawlessly in the originals for miscellaneous "atmospheric" shit that's unfun to actually play at every turn. Ironically, both the Playstation version of Doom with its new soundtrack and lighting and Doom 64 were ten times as menacing as Doom 3 in my opinion. I actually took the release day off work for Doom 3 and the disappointment was hideous.
  16. I sent her a message and she proceeded to ignore me thus far after saying she'll give me some advice...ho
  17. I just wrote one of the most hateful posts I've ever conceived on here, then realized I'm a grown man and should probably just get over my sheer hatred for his offenses against cinema. I will say that I truly wish I could've been part of this group haha Also just watched the first episode of his newest masterpiece and if I didn't know better, I'd think it was a David Lynch parody skit on SNL.
  18. I hate Refn so much, I'd go to Riker's for 3 to 4 years just to prove my point. PS: I love Kubrick!
  19. I actually don't disagree with any of that and I basically like all his movies, even thought Hateful 8 was great and like Death Proof quite a lot. The only one I've only seen twice I think is Django. There's something about the pacing, or something else I didn't really care to analyze, that turned me off. Many great vignettes but the film as a whole never clicked with me unfortunately.
  20. I miss that gritty L.A. noir vibe that pervaded his first few movies. I thought maybe this would be a sort of "comeback" but I have my doubts he's still got that sort of personality in him to create that. I liked those worlds of failing, weirdo small-time criminals. I love Ordell and Louis in Jackie Brown although that's getting totally off-topic because I just want to rant about how much Jackie Brown rules. Edit: I actually kind of hated Basterds on my first viewing. It felt like the whole cinema segment just tonally was way off. I eventually came around to it on my second and third watch and think it's a great movie by now and works shockingly well given its absurdity and subject matter.
  21. You just kind of answered your own question or whatever you wanna call it there though. It completely depends on context and portrayal in my opinion and you certainly can exploit tragedy if the context is off obviously. I haven't seen the film so I have no opinion on it yet. I strongly dislike American culture's general exploitation of serial killers and/or sensational crime and I honestly cringed when I read this was going to include the whole Manson aspect. Then again...Tarantino managed to QT the shit out of a WWII war film, which I hated in theory and then ended up thoroughly enjoying on screen. I'll see how I feel once I watch it.
