About Me

  1. Feel free to share any Asian music in this thread and here are some of my favorites to get things started: Edit: I would like to note that this is thread No. 1337 so lets make it great!
  2. There was a similar thread prior to the board Chernobyl in the music forum; and it was the one thread on that sub-board that was pretty consistently active. But I always loved the rate the last movie you watched thread. This one can be for music! It doesn't necessarily have to be rating an album per se. It can be an artist as a whole or a song individually or anything in between. I just like grouping my music by albums. Cloudkicker - Beacons - 9/10 One of my very favorite albums and definitely his best work. The song titles on this album are taken from a book called The Black Box; a book of transcriptions of black box recordings from plane crashes. The titles are usually the last words on the tape. "We're going in. We're going down." "It's bad. We're hit, man, we are hit." "We are going to invert..." "I admit it now. I was scared." "We were all scared."
  3. Drummer Charlie Watts, Rolling Stones backbone, dies at 80 APNEWS.COM LONDON (AP) — Charlie Watts, the self-effacing and unshakeable Rolling Stones drummer who helped anchor one of rock’s greatest rhythm sections and used his “day job” to support his enduring love of jazz, has died, according to his publicist.
  4. Just because you can't go outside doesn't mean Devin has to stop making music. I guess he's doing Twitch streams too.

  6. Dusty Hill, bassist for iconic rock group ZZ Top, dies at 72 (nbcnews.com) Probably not a whole lot of ZZ Top listeners here but I grew up loving them. Just a cool fucking band overall and hugely influential. One of the few that never sounded like shit and washed-up in their old age...and who else checks their pockets for a lighter mid-solo:

  9. I've been listening to a lot of Bring Me the Horizon, Architects, and Spiritbox recently, and it got me thinking that all of those bands basically sound like Meteora by Linkin Park if you tuned it to drop-Z and added breakdowns. That got me thinking about Korn, because I feel like Korn, Anthrax, and Rage against the machine were kind of the architects of the nu-metal/modern metalcore sound, so I listened to Freak on a Leash, and in many ways it is like djent a couple decades before that was a thing. "6 string guitars? No, not enough bass. More strings. Also let's drop tune the bass because we still need more bass. We'll balance out the bass with ethereal picky high pitched lead melodies with so much reverb and effects it doesn't even sound like anything anymore. Except for once the breakdown hits, then it's all bass in your face, then over to modified chorus. Perfect." That formula is basically all modern metal. I feel like all modern popular metal is like if you hired Meshuggah to make a Linkin Park cover album, and then I'm like... That actually describes Korn pretty accurately. Korn was proto-djent, in a way.
  10. This is one of those things that has always baffled me. Static X, Rob Zombie, Orgy, Powerman 5000, that one time Rammstein became insanely popular in the US. All of this music was like chart-topping, on MTV level bullshit. The fact that it was as popular as it was is baffling to me. You had Rammstein on TRL for fucks' sake.
  11. DMX Suffers OD, Hospitalized in Grave Condition WWW.TMZ.COM DMX suffered a drug overdose Friday night and is currently in the hospital ... and the prognosis is not good.

  13. The new booklet looks nice but it appears it lost the two bonus tracks from the old one, Still Day Beneath the Sun and Patterns in the Ivy II, instead they added a live version of The Leper Affinity. meh

  15. Mmmm.... give me those 1's and 0's, baby. There are few things I love more than a bRutAL breakdown. It makes me feel like a child again. Also, the more I revisit Korn as I get back into music again, the more I realize they kind of pioneered a lot of what heavy music is these days. Drop tuning and/or 7 string guitars? Korn did it (Black Sabbath played in drop tuning, as well, but not for the same effect, they played it more for "dark" vibes whereas Korn did it for "FUCK YOUR FACE" vibes, plus they wanted their guitars to mimic 808 sounds from rap beats). Now damn near every metal band plays in like drop-B or 7 string guitars.
  16. The only concert I wish I could have gone to was the Alive 2007 concert. I still had hope that after all these years there would be another. Seeing Daft Punk live was basically the only thing on my bucket list.
