I predict they'll cut out most or all of the castle stage.

Man, i hope not. If there's any area that gives them the most creative freedom, it's the castle. If I had to pick something to cut, it would probably be the sewers or the cavern area with the boss fight in the hanging cages.

I can see the game being separated into three main "Acts," the village, the castle, and the military base.

I'd prefer a remake of RE0, RE1, or Code: Veronica, but I mean, I'm very interested in an RE4 remake. Those 3 games could use the remake treatment more though.

I feel like if they're not going to do a remake of the remake of RE1 (that was fun to type out :p), then RE0 wouldn't happen either. But as someone who hasn't played it, I'd love one with RE2/3 sensibilities in mind as to avoid tank controls.

I agree, it's a shame since RE0 would be greatly improved with the smooth gameplay of the RE2/RE3 remakes. Code: Veronica would also greatly improve as well.

RE: 0 was actually pretty good IMO. Pretty standard stuff for a traditional RE game with some twists like the second character actually fighting in real time in the room with you, but I recall really enjoying it.

I’m pretty sure the recent releases of REmake and RE 0 give you options for “normal” controls if that was a hangup. Not positive because I actually like the tank controls.

The remasters of those two games do indeed have "normal" controls as well as "tank" controls, though the normal controls are still nowhere near the smoothness of RE2R or RE3R. I also liked RE0 a lot, which is why I'd really enjoy a remake of it.

I've never played RE0 actually and kind of keep forgetting it even exists. I just assumed it was really bad since it never comes up really. I should check it out.

It's pretty good! It's the most like RE1 in terms of gameplay; much slower and more survival horror focused. But it brings the RE1 remake graphics to RE0.

I just replayed RE0. One of the main reasons it got hate back in the day was because it took item management and cranked it up to 11.

There are no item boxes, so you have to either swap items between the characters or drop them on the ground. Found tge grenade launcher but want to save it? Well, find a good room and just drop it on the floor.

I usually use the main foyer and just drop all my random shit in it. But make sure you drop items far enough apart or trying to pick up a specific object will be a nightmare.

At the time, the story was absolutely bonkers, even for RE. But that was before RE5 and RE6 said hold my beer.

And yes, the leech monster is still one of the lamest RE creatures to this day. Its just... Dumb.

But the exploration and creepy environments are top notch RE. I like to play through it on Easy just for the hell of it.

All accurate - it was indeed the item management that created hate for it back in the day, but otherwise the game's old RE-style gameplay was top notch. I found the story good, and was glad to find out what happened to Bravo Team and how Rebecca Chambers got to where she is. It never seemed any more over the top than RE3 or Code: Veronica. The leech monster isn't good though, I agree.

But a remake can easily fix both of these problems (item management and leech monster) and then I'd think you have a really good RE remake.

I just replayed through REmake as well, I'm doing kind of a marathon right now... but one thing struck me as interesting in RE that I had never thought about before. Which playthrough is considered canon? If you play through as Chris, then he and Jill escape with Rebecca and Barry is nowhere to be found. But the same goes for Jill's playthrough, Barry is there but no Rebecca.

Since neither or them were ever referenced in RE2 or RE3.. or ever since for that matter, is it canon that neither of them escaped the mansion? Or did they both escape, but their characters were just kind of 'meh' to begin with and not worth following? It would be pretty dark to think you play through RE0 as Rebecca and get her all the way to the mansion, just for her to die in the explosion anyway.

I mean, I couldn't give two shits about Barry, but with Rebecca being as young as she was in the first two games, it would've been interesting to check back with her later in life and see how fucked up it made her.

Or how about this twist? Rebecca was just an undercover Ada Wong. She completely changed her ethnicity, that's how hardcore she is.

This actually sounds really cool to me honestly. How long is RE0 approximately anyway? I remember REMake being pretty meaty and I know it's the same era.

It's roughly the same length as REmake, though having to go back and pick up items you dropped probably pads the length a little longer. In all honestly, the length really depends on how good you are at remembering where everything goes.

NOTE: The game will mark items on your map as long as you inspect them. For example, you find some magnum bullets in a room but don't have any inventory space? Just examine the item (it will say you can't carry it) but will then put a dot on the map. Pressing A will let you scroll through the dots and see what items they are. Same for any items you drop. Extremely helpful.

This sounds like something I'd be into really. I assume people were tired of the formula at this point and the points you mentioned. I remember buying RE3 Day1 back then and even being pissed because it was 'more of the same'. That formula was over for me at the time as well.

I think I might pick this up in the coming weeks, it's probably fairly cheap.

For RE games with at least two scenarios, a blend of the events in all of them are considered canon if I remember correctly.  So both Rebecca and Barry surviving the mansion incident and stuff like Claire being the one to kill Birkin are all canon.  This is true for the remakes as well.

To answer your question. :)

This.

The RE scenarios presume a sort of "best possible case" from any game with multiple endings. Barry and Rebecca show up in numerous other media, including the three canon CG RE movies (which are fun if silly) which means they survived, etc.

I’d pay $10 just to play the opening village battle with the chainsaw guy over-and-over. Starts with one dude in a shack with a hatchet threatening you, continues into an entire village coming at you, into you now trying to hide in shacks/houses to hold off a chainsaw-guy.
