I'll give it more time but after three hours, The Last Of Us just isn't doing anything for me. I'll give it another hour sometime this week to see if the gameplay opens up more but so far I find it really dull unfortunately.

But it's the greatest game ever made. How can you not like it?!?!

Where you at?

I'm actually playing it right now and am nearing the end of summer. Every time I get to a stealth section, I get excited because the gameplay and strategies open up. There are always a number of ways to do things in these arenas, and you get more weapons that vary your strategies.

And I love the open areas to explore and scavenge and can't wait to see how TLOU2 handles it.

Actually, I want to give it more time and should've kept that post to myself until I see if it opens up and all. I just have this thing where a game doesn't grab me within an hour, I lose interest and the whole early section so far has incredibly dull gameplay and even worse level design. HOWEVER, I maybe have dilly-dallied around and taken my fucking time and still am in sorta-kinda tutorial areas? It's basically just been very straight-forward corridors of exterior buildings that play like stealth arena, walk and talk, stealth arena, cutscene, walk and talk etc. and I really dislike this format. Just nothing about the game is engaging me thus far despite playing on Hard.

I honestly think though Skyward Sword's quality is partially to blame. I'm playing it right now and just poked my head into TLoU over the weekend when I had some downtime.

Do you remember what happened in the story? I just want to get a sense as to what arenas you've been playing. There are definitely plenty of them, but my favorite ones come after the opening couple of hours, while the first open arena is a bit more standard as far as showing you the ropes. Like, there's a whole "boss" fight that takes place in a block in a neighborhood that's really cool, though I won't give away how it plays out since it's a really tense part of the game. I went through a crazy battle and then explored an entire neighborhood, and that part was cool

The combination of the big open areas and multiple ways to proceed it, the different ways to use your weapons, the shiv doors that give you loads of shit if you have a shiv available, the really impressive script and small talk during exploration, Ellie being hilarious and awesome, and dat ending all combine to make this one of my favorite games. I wasn't in love yet in the first three hours (and you sound like me in taking your time), but the game kept growing on me as I got better and experimented with what the game gave me.

EDIT: And I say this with the deep understanding that @Keyser_Soze will be the judge of what my favorite games are. :|

I know this sounds bad but I don't really remember haha...I'm really impatient with game stories and so far it hasn't interested me here so I just of space out when I'm not actively playing. I know I'm somewhere past the whole "get guns from Fireflies, killed the dude who sold them" part which is the opening I guess.

I'll put more time and effort into it this week sometime when I can and report back, maybe I'll come around to it. Just so far it's felt really dull to me. It really reminds me of Manhunt so far.

Yeah, that's super early. I don't think you've even met Ellie yet. :p

That part of the plot is basically a launching point for the main conflict.

I just need it to be the launching point for better level design and gameplay because my initial impressions of both were surprisingly bad.

Areas will continue to open up; don't worry. You'll also have more ways to deal with people.

There is a reason why it’s voted number 1 overrated game by D1P
