Secretly Recorded Phone Call Offers Window Into How Live Nation Helped Metallica and Other Artists Place Tickets Directly On Resale Market

In February 2017, days before Metallica announced its WorldWired North American stadium tour, Live Nation president of U.S. concerts Bob Roux spoke by phone with a little-known wealth adviser turned event promoter who had been tasked by an associate of the band to sell 88,000 tickets directly on resale sites like StubHub, without giving fans a chance to buy them through normal channels at face value.

Yeah I saw this news and I guess I’m not too surprised in some ways. It sucks that we get ripped off on ticket pricing because they know people will shell out the money to see their favourite artist. I like what The Foo Fighters did a few years back and didn’t allow online sales for their concerts for their either Sonic Highways or Wasting Light tour. Had to show up at the venue itself to buy your tickets and still sold out in 20 minutes. Then you wonder how many Live Nation has already shoved aside for resale later. There should be some sort of oversight committee into seeing this doesn’t happen. Wishful thinking but who knows

Not surprised Metallica would be part of this. The same bunch of pussies crusader against Napster for having a file of an unreleased song that could have only been uploaded by their own fucking people.

... and then the album wasn’t worth the cost of the Bandwidth it would have taken to download it.

Just repeat "I could be Lars Ulrich, I could be Lars Ulrich..."

Lars is a joke.  He is the cause of just about everything bad with Metallica.  It is pretty much his band.  Their first 4 albums were all great.  The black album was the beginning of the end.

Megadeth is largely shit nowadays, but unlike Metallica they still manage to pump out the occasional good song because if everything is going well for Mustaine he'll just invent something to rage about. The Metallica guys have no anger to harness any more.

Still their best album though.

Metallica's last album was pretty solid. Lots of great riffs and songs. Kirk's solos are still as shit as they've been since ReLoad though.

And Justice... in general is a fucking mess sound-wise. Put on Kill 'Em All or Ride The Lightning and then that. The guitar sound and EQ-ing sounds like a single bee in a soda can (not in a cool way), the drums sound like a Fisher Price toy with insanely aggressive triggering and well, there is no bass as everyone knows. I have nothing against the material as far as I recall, just think the sound robbed it of any impact it may have had to my ears.

Outside of the first two, I'd take basically most Megadeth albums over Metallica. Mustaine's voice annoys the piss out of me for the most part but that whole batch of early albums especially is pure gold song-writing and playing wise.

LULU is one of the greatest/worst things I have experienced in my 44.5 years of existence.

A friend of mine who is equally as snobby about music and myself listened to the entire travesty of an album all the way through once just for the LULZ, excuse the pun. Just a perfect storm of pure musical diarrhea on ever level. The insipid throw-away riff tape nonsense "songs", Lou Reed's confused old man rambling on a park bench antics, Hetfield pretending to be really deep and still YEAH YEAH-ing...it's SO good.

You are a wise man.

I'm not judging recording quality.  Judging the content.  Early Slayer recordings sound like they were recorded inside a tuna can... but those are some awesome songs.

And really the last two Metallica records have been a little better.  Death Magnetic was worlds better than (black album/load/ reload/ st Anger).  Hardwired was better yet.

I'm gonna judge on the quality of the mix given that, IIRC, they intentionally turned down the bass track—it's not like it was an honest recording fuckup nor due to being recorded on shitty equipment.

I love the sound on Haunting The Chapel, objectively fucked up mix and all.
