wait…there’s other bosses in Godrics castle besides him and Madrit? I searched that place from top to bottom, how the hell did I miss that haha

I don't recall it having a health bar, but there is a unique enemy in the very bottom that gives a golden seed. It really isn't a boss. Well at least this version isn't one.

I love the way From designs little things like this:

I was messing around in Caelid randomly, just being curious about a certain cliffside, when I saw a small camp of sorts with two guards with a banner at the front. Went down there, stealth killed them and was ready to move on when it seemed like they were guarding nothing. Figured I should check again and tucked away behind a little corner was a mine entrance that yielded a ton of smithing stones, a boss and an NPC.

Love how exciting the whole idea of 'there are guards...they must be there for a reason...YUP!' felt.

Yea I found the crystal sword and sold it. It was weak but looked cool.

Its not weak if you have a str/int build. Theres more to a weapon than the damage and stat bonus.

I usually keep one of most weapons I find. There is no shortage of space, and you never know what you might spec into

So I was playing co-op with two of my friends and I think the bosses scale up pretty hard. We could not stagger Margit at all and we came close but never ended up beating him. Then after we quit he did it on his own in the first attempt.

This might explain why @best3444 had a hard time at first.

2 people seems to be manageable, 3 is insanity in my experience.

I usually only sell duplicates or shit like a Great Axe requiring 50 STR. I KNOW I'm never using that.

Love to see it. The story of this game is incredible. And I mean the story around it and its success, not just the lore and stories told in the game. Seeing it succeed in a new way, having this huge zeitgeist across multiple platforms, everyone playing it together. It's BotW times ten.

I honestly never really struggled with Margit. I killed him with 2 other people and that was a blast.

What other things should I be looking at other than damage and stat bonus?

Does it have bleed/frost buildup/magic damage/etc. Whats its ash of war? Weight, damage type. No one thing gives a complete picture of the weapon, but buildups like Bloodhound Fang and the Icerind Hatchet have are pretty incredible in a lot of different situations, and ashes of war can be incredibly powerful.

Bleed killed a boss for me that I was sure I'd die on. We were both down to our last hit, and I had no porions. I hit him, then blood loss finished him as I rolled away. Frost obviously works against fire. Theres also dragon buildup, but i Don't even know what it does. Sleep, magic, im sure there is poison and others.

Jesus all I do is think about playing this game! I'm at work looking up shit etc lol. No game has done this to me in recent memory. I fucking love this game.

Now imagine discovering Demon's Souls or Dark Souls back when literally nobody was doing what they're doing. There was literally nothing like it compared to just how influential From has become since. Having grown up with NES/SNES Zelda, RPGs and what not, it was like a slap in the face reminding me what made videogames feel uh "magical". Experiencing that again with Dark Souls made me interested in gaming again in the first place so this series, if you want to count Elden Ring in there because I would, always has an extra-special place for me.

I don't know how they keep fucking doing it but Elden Ring feels like yet another new level of that. It's like they have this innate understanding of everything that makes videogames uniquely exciting vs. any other entertainment medium and just keep polishing and polishing exactly that. I remember playing Bloodborne thinking fuck man, you just cannot make a game better, more inspired and exciting than this as a developer, you just can't, this is their ceiling. And they just keep going. That's not to say I think their games are flawless, they're not, I've never played a flawless game, but even with even some glaring flaws in some of their titles, they're the definition of what's great about videogames for me. They never take control away from you, never interrupt you with superfluous shit and never take you for an impatient dummy even at their own expense when they could probably easily hammer out something less niche. I respect the fuck out of any artistic entity like that and it's obviously ultimately paid off for them, just look at Elden Ring's sales and reviews.

tl;dr = the reason why everyone bitten by the From bug won't shut the fuck up!

I know BOTW2 is set for this year but I don't see how it tops this.

And its mot really set for this year. Theres been no official word.

I love Zelda, but they have never done anything this incredible. Still one of the greatest series of all time, but this is another level. And I also understand why the dev said this was the most completable game he's made. You can definitely over level. Its happening to me because I like to explore everything.

So, what is a high poise, how do you increase it (having a shield does nothing to increase it). I'm 37 poise now.

Poise is a hidden stat bar that increases as you take damage. It's what causes you to get stunned. So I use a teo handed halberd or great sword generally and with that I tend to stun lock most enemies. I do so much damage their poise gets overwelhmed and they can't hit me back.

Also you can overlevel in the other games. I did it in all 3 dark souls games. A combo of always killing everything during my runs through areas and constantly looking for secrets.

I know when I was fighting Margit I wasn't pulling my weight lol. I took cheap shots at him here and there and the other two people were owning him. I was the one who killed him so in a sense I pulled a Ghostbusters 2 if anyone knows that reference haha.

BTW, I killed the biggest dragon in the game and got 74K runes. It took almost 30 minutes but he just lays there and you SLOWLY chip away at his health. I'm not sure why he just lays there but he is fucking massive. There are two other dragon's close by so you have to hit his legs and hide away from the other dragon's while you hit him.

Thats recency bias. Ocarina and BotW were both absolute game changers for their genre at the time and changed the way people looked those types of games.

There still hasn’t been an open world game that captures BotW’s ability to let the player do literally anything.

Nah, i love botw, but it's flaws were apparent from the beginning. The world was empty aside from shrines and a couple of villages. The divine beasts were certainly not great dungeons. I love that game, but I was not this high on it when it launched.

Ocarina was an incredible achievement, and I also love that game, but its 25 years old, and not nearly as good as Elden Ring. Personally my favorite Zelda is still ALttP.
