Embracer Group has had acquisition talks with 150 more companies

Quote

Embracer has made more than 25 acquisitions since the beginning of 2020, and in March made a share offering to raise an additional $890 million for further acquisitions. The company said in the fourth quarter alone it "engaged with more than 150 companies about joining the group."

It said that at the moment, it is in "late-stage talks" with more than 20 parties, including several that have signed letters of intent. However, it indicated it will not announce those parties yet.

As of the end of its fiscal year, Embracer had 160 development projects in the works. The company said more than two-thirds were either in new franchises or series that have been dormant for at least five years.

MS might just be kicking themselves for being tied up in the ActiveLizzard deal when this went down.

I'm not too torn up, as Embracer seems uninterested in exclusivity deals and is relatively hands-off. HOWEVER it is still a bit weird how all these talks of a monopoly with MS and yet no one's raising an eyebrow at Embracer gobbling up everything in it's path.

Embracer isn't a platform holder - that's a very significant distinction.

Also, they aren't even an American company so they can do whatever they want pretty much while Microsoft has to stand up to some sort of scrutiny.

Yeah I guess this is fine or whatever, they sold the studios along with the IP, if Square tried to sell just one or the other then Id be bummed. Only thing I don’t know is if for a theoretical Guardians Of the Galaxy sequel if this messes that up or not. I assume so long as they are able to do a sequel without Square cock blocking it that it’s maybe actually more likely now.

Being excited these studios moved from Square to Embracer is like being excited Disney acquired Fox because Xmen in the MCU

I think this would be more like if Berkshire Hathaway acquired Image Comics.

I'm positively shocked Microsoft or Sony didn't scoop them up, for much more.

For reference, the old Rise of the Tomb Raider timed exclusivity deal cost Microsoft 100 million (lol).  For triple that, they could have owned the game and studio, two others, and even more IP.
