CitizenVectron
Here, when it gets really hot and you don't want to run the AC 24/7, you can always just go into the basement since it's usually 5C cooler. Can't imagine not having that option in places where the bedrock is too high, or the water table.

CitizenVectron
Texas isn't really connected to the other national grids, correct? And that is because it allows them to offer fewer regulations to generation companies, relative to the rest of the nation? If that is the case, the obvious solution is to begin the process of hooking up Texas to the other grids to prevent this situation in the future. The obvious resistance would be from the private companies that make more money in Texas due to fewer regulations (and bribe politicians with campaign contributions to prevent that from happening). Then even though this is a freak, once in a lifetime heatwave they’ll make some pledge that they will make sure the energy companies are better prepared in the future.
