Question for the Soulsborne fam

What exactly is insight? I've found a couple of skull items that increase it when used, but I'm not sure if I should use them yet or not.

Insight is one of those weird From systems that seems nebulous to me even after several playthroughs. Basically, lore-wise Insight is gaining, well, further insight into how the world really is. For example, you can't see the giant Amygdala hugging one of the church spires until you have a certain amount of Insight and so on. You also use Insight to summon other players for help as far as I recall.

Also later on in the game, high amounts of insight will add additional enemies and/or enemy attacks at certain areas and so forth.

Best starting weapon in general is the Saw Cleaver. It is even great the whole game, where I feel the other starting weapons get outclassed. I personally started with the ax tho cuz it has a halberd form. It can also be good for noobs as it has a good amount of range and the spin attack has knockdown.

Insight lets you see the truth of the world. It actually can make the game harder the more you have. The most annoying mechanic in all of the Soulsborne games it made worse the more you have of it. It is also a form of currency that is not lost on death.

It makes the game harder but you also "unlock" being able to see more of "the world" and its enemies, as I recall. I liked the lore-aspect at least.

So there's some similarity to humanity from Dark Souls it seems.

I do like how there's no equipment burden. Still not a fan of weapon degradation though. I thought Dark Souls II had a better system where your gear was fixed at each bonfire rest at least.

I don't care for it either but they thankfully made it essentially a non-issue in BB. I switched between two main weapons usually and rarely had to fix them.

There actually is an equipment burden, but it is laughably hidden through equipping the lantern (and affects stamina regen as opposed to movement).

I totally forgot about that because I ended up never equipping it because of that. Total trolling

God damn y’all got me itching for the hunt again. Or maybe I’ll go back and finally take on...

Spoiler

Gehrmain, and maybe Moon Essence (I forget if I got all the cords or not)

...Since I took the chump (but narratively more appealing) ending.

And you also have a brightness setting on your TV. :p

Which is funny because in the brightness setting in game, it says to adjust until the Beast is invisible...well I put the thing all the way down and can still see it, yet with my TV's actual settings, or even the PS4 HDR settings those gamma menus are set properly.

I have a torch anyway for dark places. I know there's also a Hunter's Torch with a bit more attack power, not that they're really good for attacking.

The idea of the lantern is that it clips to your belt so it frees your hand from having to hold that torch. In practice, it's useless and affects your stamina regeneration. It's absurd.

I got curious and looked it up, and it apparently no longer does reduce your stamina regeneration as of patch 1.04. Maybe it wasn't intentional and a bug so they fixed it.

Oh cool. Well it certainly actually looks cool so I'll be going for it next time I play.

I got my first chalice so now I can do Chalice Dungeons. Can someone explain them to me though? How do they work? I'm assuming the First Ritual Altar is the easiest, and they go up in difficulty from there, so the Fifth Ritual Altar in the Hunter's Team is harder. Not sure what the difference is between Chalice Ritual, and Chalice Dungeon Search options are though.

I did picked a Dungeon Search, and picked a random one, and I think it was broken lol. There was a room I fell into where there was nothing, but I kept falling and falling until I died and returned to the Hunter's Dream. I know some of them are procedurally generated, but can players make them? It seemed like the kind of hank a player would make.

Chalice Ritual is you 'creating' the Chalice Dungeon as far as I recall and Search is basically going into proc. created or other users' saved dungeons I think? It's convoluted and I only ever did the actual game's 'story' dungeons. I think some of the terms are explained, in typical obscure From fashion, a bit in the chalice item descriptions.

And yes regarding the first vs. fifth. You end up getting different chalices throughout the game which you place onto those tombstones in the Dream. The chalices have layers which are essentially the levels and later on you can add certain difficulty modifiers and shit like Cursed xyz Chalice and so on which yields better loot and new bosses.

It does seem pretty convoluted. The one I have now is the Pthumeru Chalice, and even it has variants, and then there's the Isz Chalice, and another, which I'm sure also have variants. So do I need to place the Pthumeru Chalice in the second, third, etc. spots, and then repeat with the Isz Chalice, or does each one only go in a specific spot?

I went into another random one, and it gave me a ton of blood echoes because even though the enemies were too tough for me to kill easily, they spawned in a pool of poison, so I just needed to wait for that to kill them, and they gave me like 4000 echoes each haha!

As far as I recall you can put the chalices wherever but there are limited tombstones to place them on so you eventually have to remove one or more that you already beat.

Lol those tombstones were what I was talking about when I mentioned the first, second, third, etc. altars. Those aren't difficultly ranked, which the term "Final Altar" would imply, they're just slots. Not sure why they didn't just call them Ritual Altar I, Ritual Altar II, Ritual Altar III, etc.

Found a glyph online that allowed me to farm like 50K echoes in a handful of minutes. That came in handy. Now I've already got my endurance to 40.

Oh okay. Yeah, they're basically just really cool looking placemats for your chalices!

Killed Vicar Amelia, and decided to check out the DLC area, even though I know I'm not quite ready for it; I was just curious to see what it looked like and was like. Holy shit this area is huge!

It’s huge and it’s glorious.

:]

Also, the Chalice Dungeons are not as complicated as they initially seem. I recommend doing them as you progress through the game that way they’re never too easy, and they have some really spectacular bosses.I recommend doing them as you progress through the game that way they’re never too easy, and they have some really spectacular bosses.
