  1. Do you mean the blue shimmer when they fight? They have personal shields, and you're seeing it react to the strikes.
  2. If it makes you feel better @Keyser_Soze even if you're an Xbox fan you should also be rejoicing because while I'm unsure if their implementation is as good as the PS's, their storage tech is also significant compared to what's come before. In fact, if they didn't also have some great storage tech I'd be worried because it would bring down the usage of it in cross-platform games. Even the shitty S has some great storage tech though!
  3. I'm not sure it's worth debating what counts as "ground breaking" Different people will have different notions of what makes something ground breaking or not and will come at it from different points of view. What we can say though, is all indications point to the fact that the developers of Ratchet would not have made a new Ratchet game like this if it wasn't for the SSD (and pipeline of it). Not just resolution, or reflections being different, but the campaign itself is something they wouldn't have done. They have been empowered to make a game they otherwise would not have made if this tech wasn't there. Or at least, that's what they're telling us and I think there is good reason to believe them. I think most people in this thread agree with that? In which case maybe we can find that common ground?
  4. The p makes it a little funny, but pretty sure they just mean that's the target native rendering resolution which then will be either upscaled to 4K or down sampled to 1080p. Similar to how so many games this gen rendered at "900p" (or whatever funky resolution the game used) upscaled to 1080p. I'm also skeptical that many games will actually render at 1440p on an Series S, but I would expect the above was their intention.
  5. https://www.interglot.com/dictionary/en/en/translate/tease apart#:~:text=Alternate Synonyms for "tease apart,%3B disentangle%3B unsnarl%3B straighten out Sorry if the expression is unfamiliar. Tease apart refers to disentangling. In this context, I'm saying level design is an entangled concept with gameplay. That is, I would absolutely classify level design as part of gameplay. If seems you don't want to. Which as I said, is fine, I just don't know why you want to separate those concepts.
  6. The developers would not have architected the level design to have numerous world switches if they couldn't do it quickly. If new tech changes the level design games can provide that seems like a pretty fair definition of "gameplay" changing. If you disagree with that, I guess that's fine, but I'm not sure why you care to tease it apart that way.
  7. It is big! But there are increasing problems pretty much everywhere across the state. And even if we just talk fires, the effect of those can be significant in multiple ways.
  8. How's that orange haze workin' for ya? I mean seriously wtf at this shit. It's game over man.
  9. Naaa. I don't do chatter bots, even highly impressive many hundred-billion parameter trained ones. I prefer AI work that involves action-taking agents. If you go to the linked letter on Washington Post, it's clear they don't know what Markdown is
  10. This is a really weird fucking show. I'm still watching, and yet still don't know what I think about it!
  11. I don't think anyone "deserves" anything, good or bad. And I tend to think that's a bad way to think about "ethical" issues since I think it's nonsensical concept. A better way to think about things is what the harm and benefits are to people. In this case, there is potentially a useful benefit to her being on the receiving end of some of Trump's shit that may balance the harm. Too many people, particularly those who are Trump supporters, refuse to acknowledge and respond to the harm he causes if it's not directly and obviously affecting them too. If Trump never treated Huckabee the same way he's treated countless other women it would be all too fucking easy for her to look the other way because she's that kind of self-involved person. If she actually has to suffer at least some degree of the shit she had turned a blind eye to, she might actually start adjusting her position even if only slightly. I'm not sure I'd be able to give you a simple clean answer. The tension is between how much benefit there is in her confronting and changing her positions from the things she experience, and the degree of pain and trauma of the experience itself. Rape would easily cross line because it's so horrendous an act it would counter act any benefit in her having to shift her feelings.
