  1. It's like we were lovers in a former life, finding each other all over again.
  2. I'm willing to chalk up the failures of the final two seasons to the fact that they were basically checked out and wanted to stop doing it. In that sense I'm will to see how they do on something else, because I thought they otherwise did a good job.
  3. I'm on board. 3090 is just too much for personal use, but the 3080 will be mine along with an entirely new PC.
  4. I realize this is a joke, but to be more serious, any large scale AI project requires many people working on it. The lone rogue scientist who does everything and adds special secret protocols only exists in sci fi. There's basically no world in which working for Facebook will allow you to do more good than working elsewhere.
  5. They've emailed me like 4 times even though I haven't responded so far, hence why I'm thinking of formulating a response. There are good and otherwise well-meaning researchers in Facebook AI. But I think they're all wrong to work for such an awful company. You can get decent paying jobs elsewhere doing AI pretty easily these days, you don't need to empower such a terrible business to do good AI work. Unless Facebook undergoes a massive change in business practices, I refuse to work for them.
  6. I mean, if any year is going to need super heroes to manifest...
  7. This thread reminds me that I still need to formulate my response to the Facebook AI recruiter who keeps pinging me. On the one hand I want to go scorched earth. On the other they're probably just trying to pay the bills.
  8. Agreed. The naming doesn't quite fit the hypothesis. Sure seems like it otherwise though.
  9. It makes me wonder if the 3090 is going to be more geared to people doing AI work, because if it is that price, it is an absurd gap.
  10. Will do! It is possible we just have very different tastes in games though!
  11. 2020 is possibly the worst year for the US as a whole in my life. But somehow aside from how these launches go, I think this might be my favorite year in gaming... ever. And Cyberpunk isn't even out yet. I was considering making a thread about this.
  12. It's probably not "because reasons" it's probably because the statistical history shows tightening past this point given some some set of current conditions. Statistical models are not always easy to summarize in a single piece of English, and the more complex the system, the harder it will be to summarize "why." Sure, his model might suck, but I think you'd have to dive deep to make that case.
  13. I see. I probably worded that badly. I just meant you do have to think about what you're doing. As opposed to Elder Scrolls where you can just spend as much time doing one thing as you want while everything else waits. You've got a time budget and some paths will allow you to unlock more than others.
