I've mentioned this to @Greatoneshere but he's got such a hate boner for SAC2045 he will never watch it. But yeah that show does things that would be very difficult to do if they had drawn it by hand. The episode on the freeway, with tons of explosions, bullets, cars, fire, crazy action would be difficult to achieve with a hand drawn look and even if you did it would take eons to get that level of detail with a bunch of animators. I think Mamoru Hosoda put it well. 2d and 3d do look different but at the end of the day a human is animating both and putting just as much love into the 3D as they are the 2D so you should be able to appreciate it either way.

Belle: 9/10 Belle is the latest (and greatest) movie from writer & director Mamoru Hosoda. Five years in the making (with two of those pandemic years) he really went all out for this one. The character design for Belle is Jin Kim who worked on Frozen and Tangled (among others) and features three musical composers one, Ludvig Forssell, who composed the Death Stranding soundtrack. Even more astounding is the voice actress in both English and Japanese both sang and acted their roles. If you're familiar with Hosoda's work this one may tread familiar ground, in fact he says as much in one of the interviews. The movie takes place in both a virtual world called "U" and the real world called "Japan." The main character Suzu had a traumatic past when she was six years old. Not ever really able to cope with reality she found "U" which allowed her to break free from her sorrow as an avatar named Belle. Suzu had been brought up around music when she was young but the incident when from when she was young prevented her from singing, but in U she is able to let loose. Later another character appears that others dub "The Beast" and well I think a lot of us are familiar with that story. So the movie is kind of like his previous movie, "Summer Wars" but the incorporation of the virtual world in this one leads to a bit more grounded and sad reality. Now haters of CG anime all i have to say is: The animation is incredible. In fact Hosoda went on to say that this movie is the most convincing CG anime depiction of emotion EVER. And I can't say I disagree. A lot of attention to detail was paid to every part of this movie. In fact if you're one of those dub perverts you're in luck because NYAV Post did the dub. Belle is an excellent movie and dare I say one of Hosoda's best 🤔

It's strange to blame the 3D on the look of the show. Obviously these shows have art directors and such and they have a vision for how the show is supposed to look. So if they think it's supposed to look this way and maybe they hand drew it and if it looked exactly as it does now you couldn't hate it because it's 3D. Maybe they just wanted it to look unique / distinct from how it originally looked. For some people this is never going to fly, but it's never going to look the same either.

I've only seen the Anthony Bourdain movie in theater but someone wanted to see it with me. I might go to more if more people want to go to a theater with me.

Yeah but you can watch The Core on a plane

I really have no words of comfort. Just cherish the memories that he blessed you with all of these years. 💐

He'd probably be more into The Core. It's like the same movie but one has unobtainium in it.
