  3. Perhaps they are, but the power brokers know how to reach into the souls of millions without ever going too far. God is dead. They've dusted him off and set him in a little cupboard and are now turning the world into a soulless computer-controlled farm of labor. No eyes, no laughter, no magic. And not even the corporations are paying for it anymore.

  5. Spriggan: 8/10 I was not a viewer of the Spriggan anime that came out in 1998, I had always seen the box art but never got around to seeing it. 2022 rolls around and surprise, Spriggan is back as a Netflix show. The anime was supplemented by a handful of behind the scenes footage, which is actually pretty cool be cause it's something you rarely see. This anime is actually adapted from the various volumes of the manga. From what I understand the movie only focuses on one volume and takes some artistic liberties with the story. So this show is, for better or worse, a more accurate representation of the Manga the art director even going so far as to storyboarding the show based on the pages from the Manga. The show is pretty cool. It's kind of a supernatural action movie, like something along the lines of a metal gear meets X-files or something like that. All episodes are self contained so the story doesn't have a continuity so, again, it's kind of like an X-Files monster of the week type thing. A lot of it focusing on Yu working for ARCAM to get ancient artifacts that contain or lead to some type of extraordinary thing. The first two episodes are almost balls to the walls old school gory anime stuff but the rest of the episodes focus more on strange adventures which I think I enjoyed more. Episode 3 was probably my favorite with a focus on a mysterious forest. It was kind of strange to see them hype of Jean and Mirage (and they even show up in the intro) but only get one episode. Though if you're a big fan of Yoshino you get to see her many times. Which also ties into another cool aspect, they've kind of given Yu some depth from what I understand from the making of they show more of his personal (school) life. Normally I'd be like "oh great high school crap how original " but in the case of this show it serves as a nice change of pace. It makes Yu feel more like a Peter Parker type of guy. The look of the show is 3d mixed with 2D animation. Supposedly the faces are animated the rest is 3D but it is so well done that it's really hard to tell what is what. I mean there are a couple of spots that stand out towards the end like the Berzerker, but for the most part it's well done. I would welcome more episodes of this show. There are 11 volumes of the manga and I can only assume this covers six (I honestly don't know) but there is an extra scene at the end of the last episode that would indicate more are on the way. With each episode being over 40 minutes long this feels about the length of a regular anime series just with longer episodes. Overall, I was pretty satisfied with this and if you're unfamiliar with this series I would say this is probably the best spot to jump in.

  14. Sleep Tight (Mientras duermes): 8/10 Sleep Tight is yet another Filmax produced movies. I thought I had gotten through them but here we are yet again. It's directed by Jaume BalaguerΓ³ who had previously done The Nameless (And the Rec movies that I still haven't seen) and the movie is actually pretty good. The film begins quite normally. We are introduced to Cesar, he's a concierge / handyman at an apartment building. He begins his day waking up next to a woman and leaving to go to work, and we see he's quite polite and seemingly a well mannered person (Although he is very formal with the woman he was sleeping next to the night before). But it isn't until that evening that we see how twisted Cesar really is. Not only does he lie and manipulate others worst of all he drugs this woman and sleeps with her at night. I guess his whole deal is he's unable to feel happiness so he wants everyone he knows to wallow in sorrow with him. You could consider this psychological horror but it leans more into the psychological mind games, and it's certainly something unnerving.
