  1. That would actually be a first for Nintendo. Same platform Zelda sequels are usually very different from each other. Zelda and Adventures of Link. Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. Faces of Evil and Wand of Gamelon.
  2. You forgot America Chavez in Dr Strange. She's not alternate timeline, but alternate dimension in the comics. Where she comes from in Dr Strange 2 should definitively settle the angle they're going for.
  3. It's amusing. Nintendo is the only company that believes a game from each franchise should only hit once a console generation while we live in a world of yearly and biannual releases. There are more Assassin's Creed games than Zelda games and the Zelda franchise is a whole twenty years older.
  4. Eh, there have been eight Mario Kart games in the last thirty years and five Smash Bros in the last twenty. The only seriously egregious franchise of Nintendo's is Pokemon and Pokemon isn't really Nintendo's nor do they have any direct control over it. I sometimes think people forget three things. How old they are, how old some of these Nintendo franchises are, and how few games Nintendo really makes. The last one is crazy because that's the biggest issue I have with them.
  5. This is the one. There are always people running around fucking up the multiverse. The TVA was just able to keep it all in check. Loki, well Sylvie, has stopped that from happening. Strange would have been stopped were it not for them.
  6. As can I. Easier to wait for the kids to go to bed than find a sitter for the middle of the night.
  7. They've never been told no and are now surrounded by 24/7 indoctrination that tells them everyone wants to take everything they have away. In the days before cable news and Facebook, these were the family members with uncomfortable opinions that came up only if you probed them. Now, more than ever, they feel comfortable spewing this stuff everywhere and on anyone with or without working ears.
  8. We as a nation are throwing away vaccine doses as they expire because nearly half the nation desperately wants to be members of a suicide cult. I wouldn't begrudge anyone looking for boosters when those doses just aren't being used by anyone else. I'll a single shot J&J recipient. I'm totally thinking about what a booster would look like for me when I see all those fancy mRNA success numbers.
  9. Amusingly, I played a LOT more Playstation than N64. I spent most of my time on RPGs on the SNES so the PSX was the natural follow-up. I have a huge amount of nostalgia for games like Lunar, Suikoden, Grandia, and Persona. That said, I still think the nostalgia hits harder in the N64 simply because my fondest highschool gaming memories are huddled up and playing way to much Mario Kart and Golden Eye. There just went any multiplayer games outside of fighting games that caught my attention. It was either those games or LAN parties with Quake II and Half Life.
  10. The N64 wins a ton of nostalgia points based on multiplayer. For many, it was their first time playing a four player game on a single TV. Memories of 4 player Mario Kart, GoldenEye, Mario Party, Smash Bros, and even Star Fox was eye opening.
  11. Not even close. The console had a wildly weak set of launch titles and also launched only THREE months after the GBA. THREE!!! This was after Sony already had a year head start with the PS2 and many gamers were burnt on the short-lived Dreamcast. The lack of a Mario game at launch certainly didn't help and Luigi's Mansion was great, but it wasn't exactly console carrying like Breath of the Wild.
  12. Nintendo has an insane profit per employee ratio and their CEO is "only" making like $10m/yr including bonuses. They must be doing something right if they've managed to keep employees around for an average of 14 years, each. Compared that to, say, EA which is 3.5 years or Activision which is 3.2 years.
  13. I have 5G and a 1.2Gb Internet connection. Still not stable for me at home. Sometimes it's perfect and then other times it's just not. Comcast sucks, though, so maybe that's the problem. It's a cable connection so my upload speeds are shit, but they should still be enough to keep things running smoothly. It's the same whether it's xCloud or Stadia. Maybe if I had another choice for ISPs, but the next best connection is 5G followed by DSL.
  14. Their issues were the same as OnlyFans here. The lack of moderation lead to a lot of illegal content hosted on their site. The biggest difference here is that OnlyFans didn't seem to want to actually perform any kind of moderation and are, instead, opting to just do away with the entire genre.
  15. We're not as bad as others, so let's do nothing to make sure it stays that way. He took too long to shut things down at the onset of the pandemic as well. Earlier this year, a bunch of school districts, mine included, put in requests to allow them to offer remote learning this coming fall. All of them were rejected with the order to return to full time in person schooling with remote options only being made available to kids in hospitals or the immunocompromised. Yay.
  16. Sounds like MasterCard is on them not because of the porn but because the BBC discovered they're terrible at content moderation. OnlyFans: How it handles illegal sex videos - BBC investigation WWW.BBC.COM Announcement came as leaked documents revealed Only Fans had some “tolerance” for accounts that posted illegal content.
  17. I feel like there are enough characters and versions of characters to keep things going for a long time without the bed for actual reboots. We have Riri Williams being introduced in the next Black Panther movie before her Disney+ series. Once Dominique Thorne is fine with the role, there's always Iron Lad and like Iron Lord and whoever it was from Iron Man 2020. There shouldn't be a need to reboot these characters. Spider-Man can go from Peter to Miles to Gwen to Jessica to Cindy to Peni to whoever.
  18. It's also shocking that fan favorite LeVar Burton got his chance to host during the Olympics. A shame ratings were down during his week. That puts him out of the running.
  19. And Trebek already named someone he'd want to replace him, but Mike here never even gave her a guest host spot. Video resurfaces of Trebek saying he wanted Laura Coates to replace him as ‘Jeopardy’ host NEWS.YAHOO.COM After weeks of searching for a new host of Jeopardy — an effort that included a popular petition requesting LeVar […] The post Video resurfaces of Trebek saying he wanted Laura Coates to replace him as...
  20. I was just reading about this and had considered bumping the Epic vs Apple thread. It looks like Google also offered up search profits from phone manufacturers in exchange for them not including other app stores on their phones.
  21. The FTC has refiled, but with a more targeted lawsuit... FTC: Facebook was bad at business, so it “illegally bought or buried” competition ARSTECHNICA.COM FTC chair Lina Khan cast deciding vote in decision to refile. This sounds better than their previous case. Also, I love the detail that Facebook bought Onavo, a VPN service, specifically to track its users and figure out which competitors they needed to squash.
  22. I would, but my wife is a teacher working at the sister school my son is registered to attend. She's actually in a position to make a change here. Sucks that most parents aren't. I mentioned earlier in this thread, but last year as a special needs teacher my wife ran into so many kids that were misplaced. Kids that were "nonverbal autistic", but are actually perfectly fluent in Spanish. The district isn't required to actually staff any non-English speakers and placement tests are given in English. On top of that, Massachusetts is really strict with teaching requirements, so it can often be really hard to get into the profession unless you have the necessary money to throw at the licensing and testing. That's sometimes hard to come by when you're looking at immigrants or first generation native speakers. My wife was, literally, the only minority teacher in her school that was 50% non-white. Let's see how the new school she's heading to looks like. I should mention, my wife has many years down as a special needs therapist, her bachelor's in early childhood education and is licensed by the state to provide therapy to kids and adults with autism and other more severe mental disabilities. Ignore all that, if it weren't for the temporary relaxing of teacher licensing standards that were put in place because COVID caused huge numbers of teachers to just up and retire, she wouldn't have qualified because her college wasn't on the list of colleges she could go to to become a teacher in this state.
  23. How about some personal systemic racism for a change of pace? My son is five and registered for kindergarten. He has a mild learning disability that primarily affects language. He can talk, but it's very difficult for him to put sentences together so he mostly just strings related words together with no care for grammar. He also has trouble pronouncing words. When registering him for school, we included this diagnosis from his neurologist. We listed English as the language spoken at home and the only language he knows and understands. However, because we listed his ethnicity as Hispanic, the schools decided to put him in an ESL class as primarily Spanish speaking. This is in spite of us knowing they'd try to pull this and bringing him to an in person evaluation with one of the district's pathologists to make sure people understand that his speech impediment is real and this isn't a case of him only speaking Spanish...you know, because we assumed the letter from his neurologist wouldn't be enough. None of it matters, because we just got a letter telling us he's still going to get enrolled in an ESL class where the teacher will speak primarily Spanish and he'll have no idea what the hell she's saying. My wife is already on the phone with the school's principal raising hell.
  24. Nope. Just different business models. Webtoons mostly relies on ad revenue, so the bulk of their current catalog is free. The ads come at the end of the comic, before you get into comments. Webtoons does a lot to try to foster a community among its readers, so higher engagement from your readers comes with bigger perks. They also have this Fast Pass where there's the current chapter that's free to everyone and then another 3-5 chapters you can buy for 50¢ each. This works best for serial series since knowing the continuation of a good cliff hanger is only a couple of quarters away is a fairly good incentive to pony up for it. Comixology is mostly focused on digital issues that cost about the same as print. They also have a $5.99 monthly subscription that grants you access to a library of comics.
