  2. DC Characters Are Coming to Webcomics Through Deal With Webtoon VARIETY.COM DC characters will be featured in several upcoming webcomics series, through a new deal between WarnerMedia's DC and Webtoon. Looks like DC is going to work on some new series from their existing properties that they'll distribute through Webtoons. If you aren't familiar with Webtoons, it's got to be the biggest dedicated digital comic distributor out there. Their user base is some 100 million readers, many of whom are actually willing to pay for individual chapters. I can't think of anyone with a larger reader base outside of probably like Amazon, Apple, and Google. They mainly deal with indie comics, Japanese manga, and Korean manhwa. I think their most high profile franchise was a great Star Wars comic that ran a number of years back that Disney has since pulled from the platform. That said, they've had some breakout hits, some of which have received anime adaptation like Tower of God on Crunchyroll or live action series like Sweet Home on Netflix. It'll be interesting to see how far this goes. Webtoons and their vertical scrolling comics is easily the best way to read comics on a mobile device. Some of my favorites comics are the ones that make great use of the verticality like Hellper or Gosu. I'll keep an eye out for these when they start to land.

  5. Black Panther Writer Ta-Nehisi Coates Wants Better for Creators GIZMODO.COM Though Black Panther's Ta-Nehisi Coates is shifting to a Superman film as his next project, his love for comics runs deep, and his passion for the art form makes him want better for the other creators working in the space. Not sure how it could be done but I would love to see writers/creators get something more then what they currently do.
  6. Huh - this is the first time I'm learning about this! Half-Life comic A Place in the West releases new chapter | PC Gamer WWW.PCGAMER.COM The seventh chapter of the long-running officially licensed Half-Life comic is now available.
  7. While I'm not a huge comics fan by any stretch, I still check in with the medium from time to time to see if there's anything upcoming that I could potentially be interested in. A couple of days ago, I stumbled upon an article that details all the upcoming Batman-related releases and HOLY CHARACTER SATURATION, DC! I mean, I certainly was aware that DC leaned heavily on the Caped Crusader, but I had no freakin' idea that the dependence was THAT significant! All the new Batman comics, graphic novels, collections from DC | GamesRadar+ WWW.GAMESRADAR.COM DC's Dark Knight is busy! Check out all the upcoming Batman comics on the horizon It's worth noting that these are releases that feature Batman himself and NOT the extended Bat Family (Nightwing, Batgirl, etc.). If we include those titles, then the Bat Family easily accounts for at least 60% of DC's total output. As DC has previously announced that it will be reducing its overall number of titles to concentrate on "core" characters, I can only imagine that this disproportionality is only gonna get worse!

  9. OF COURSE THEY'RE STARTING WITH THE BLOODY ULTRAMARINES The grim darkness of Warhammer 40,000 comes to Marvel Comics this October!
  10. Great video... this is pretty much the direction DC is going in and I approve. It's ALL canon.
  11. I stopped reading Batman after Death of the family and bits of rebirth. Is there a story arc I should look into before 3 jokers? i can’t afford too many books but also DC prices aren’t what the used to be ($3 for supes and WW then a month later $2, then Batman was $4 to $3 a month later)
  12. 25 Years of History as a mecca of all things comics & nerdom burned down alongside two other local prominent businesses. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, there were 84 firefighters responding to the vacant building as of 9:10 p.m. where flames had spread from the original unit through the attic. Crews initially responded to the fire in the 7400 block of West Sunset Boulevard, near Gardner Street, at about 8:45 p.m., according to the department. When crews arrived on scene, flames were already exploding through the roof of the structure, forcing the firefighters to take a defensive position outside of the structure. The full extent of the fire was still unknown as fire crews applied large hose streams from the exterior of the structure. The blaze was officially declared a knockdown at about 9:22 p.m. with 84 firefighters on scene. According to LAFD, gas lines were reportedly feeding the blaze until crews were able to shut off utilities to the structure. There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire was still under investigation. They had shuddered their doors shortly after COVID struck back in March but this seals the fate of the location permanently, unfortunately.

  14. As they're both Fox properties, it was only a matter of time before these joined the rest of the former Fox assets under the Disney banner.
  15. For local comic stores already strugging in the throes of the "COVID-19 Crisis", this was the LAST thing they needed.
  16. I guess its no big deal but its pretty fucking stupid. I preferred to add lots of comics to the cart and buy it that way rather than multiple transactions. Make sure your Marvel account and Comixology account are linked and let your buddies know. https://www.cbr.com/marvel-shutting-down-digital-comics-shop/
  17. So not sure if you guys knew this but new comics stopped shipping in late march because of issues with Diamond Retailers, the comic book industry's main distributor. Both Marvel AND DC had stopped shipping print comics, so for the first time in MY lifetime that I can remember NO NEW COMICS have come out for at LEAST the last three weeks and people were worried about the comic retail industry being abandoned in favor of the big two going completely digital. DC has just announced their plans to have two new companies handle their distribution in edition to Diamond Retailers Details of the plan here No word from Marvel yet...
