  1. I think DLSS will be a game-changer because, unlike previous technologies from Nvidia, it actually improves performance.
  2. I don't get what you don't follow. I'm not making any claims of certainty with my statements. Does the value of convenience of all digital matter more than the ability to trade or buy used (typically priced as much or less than digital) discs to the S's target market?
  3. Only issue I see us the target audience for this would probably buy discs, used, and perhaps swap with friends. I wonder how well the all digital xbone sold relative to other xbones for MS to make this choice.
  4. This console is going to be fine. The X will target 4k resolution, perhaps 1440p later in life, while this can target 4k, and drop down to 1080p later. Not everyone has a 4k TV, and "casuals" and kids don't pay attention to resolution. The lack of a disc drive for this crowd, who probably engage in the used game/swap market, will be a bigger factor than its raw performance.
  5. After the blackouts a few weeks ago, articles mentioned, A) California has invested more into renewables (solar) than they have in other technologies over the last 20 years, and importantly the trade off came at the expense of maintaining and keeping open some nuclear power plants that would have covered the loss of power from solar when... B) There was a massive and extended cloud obstruction due to the tropical storm, reducing solar output for the state. When lack of solar output happened previously they would simply borrow power from neighboring states, but since the cloudiness and heat covered a wider area than California those other states needed the power for themselves. C) A gas power plant had an untimely maintenance schedule that shut it down, and could have covered (much of) the lack of solar output. So their investment into Wind+Solar failed to take into account a climate that would affect them and their neighboring states, and they didn't have proper backup power output in place.
  6. I'm only a couple hours into the campaign, so I haven't seen much of Captain America. But I've figured out what initially feels off about him for me. While each of the Avengers gives me an uncanny valley feeling because they are close to, but not exactly like, their movie counterparts, Captain America's model reminds me too much of Homelander (The Boys. I swear in a a cutscene he had some crazy eyes going on too (probably a bug).
  7. If you're doing fine with a 1080 Ti at 1440p, then you should expect similar results at 4k with a 3090. 3090 will approach roughly twice the performance of a 1080 Ti, while bumping from 1440p to 4k is at least 50% more demanding on the GPU. You might be losing a little bit of performance, depending on the title, due to being stuck on lower bandwidth DDR3 memory or games that heavily utilize 6+ cores. But again, that depends on how sensitive a particular game engine is to memory performance (Far Cry games love CPU speed and memory speed).
  8. It's a shame they've created the wrong types of jobs. Expand that 2.7 million industry, but instead of using it for active shooter drills, hire more counselors. But if we were to continue with active shooter training, it seems obvious to me that teachers are the ones who need it the most. We would want the leadership of the school to not get frazzled under duress - be a commanding voice for students to follow.
  9. On PC just about everyone's hair looks bad. Some characters are passable, but some are really distracting - looks like they're wearing hair nets. I saw this issue in the beta and assumed it would have been fixed for launch.
  10. I'm such a sucker for Marvel stuff that I actually broke down and bought it (forgot about the giveaway, tbh), so you can take me out of the lottery lol. Game brought back good memories of playing Marvel Heroes, even though I was nitpicking the beta.
  11. It'll fit* I have a GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 which is 5.6" wide compared to the reported 5.4" width of the 3090 and it fits in a 011 Dynamic, barely. The power cable does touch the side panel, although there are L- or U-shaped adapters that would solve that problem for me. *Note: not sure what the 12-pin power adapter Nvidia supplies with its cards will look like. If it's a big piece of rigid plastic then that is going to effectively add more width the card and not make it fit. If it's a flexible short cable, then you're fine. But you might have to take off the side panel into a variety of adapters hit the market.
  12. Fuck I want this. But I want to know what happens when someone drops a REAL banana peel on the track.
  13. I'll probably wait for the 3080 Super and hopefully it has more vram. But I'll monitor benchmarks closely to see if it's worth it and as new games use new features. Right I pretty much get 100 fps with a 1080 Ti in the games I need it to.
  14. It seems like they are really cheaping out on VRAM size. Are they counting on RTX-I/O or AI compression to make up the difference? I mean the 1080 Ti has 11GB while the 3080 will only have 10. For the same price!
