I played the 1st Dragon Quest when it was mailed to me as a Freebie from Nintendo Power, and that made me fall in love with RPGs.

 

Never played a Dragon Quest since I don't think, unless maybe on Gameboy.

DQ11 is as old-school JRPG as it gets nowadays, and it's pretty damn good.

DQXI isn’t much of a grind unless you want to steal items.  It’s more like a late 16-bit RPG but with skill trees/grids.  
 

Its a good throwback.  Just make sure to play it with the traditional battle system option. It’s actually faster that way.

I’m pretty sure it’s going to be like Persona 5 Royal where it’s a new separate release. But at least if you don’t have a switch you can play it if you want now.
