And then the user would have been banned when they admitted it was a joke.

First someone would've searched through their entire posting history first and looked for a smoking gun of a dissenting opinion, reposted it, then had them banned, then reported it to their actual job and had them fired.

I think I got banned there years ago for asking something someone had already  asked 2 months before me. In a thread no less...

Which makes it shocking how alike resetera and neogaf actually are 😆

I am really enjoying it but the game does definitely waste a lot of your time and not always in a good way.

I feel this way about all open world games, but when you are in a dungeon in ER I don't feel like anytime is being wasted. What makes you feel like time is being wasted?

It’s just unfortunate I feel that there is this feedback loop with Miyazaki’s design that due to the nature of its fan base not wanting to criticize/enjoying the gate keeping itself and probably also just people within the company buying into the idea of the genius auteur and thus being surrounded by yes men and women, there isn’t as much opportunity to refine the parts of the series that legitimately could use refinement (mostly qol, technical, accessibility).

I mean, I've totally shat on how this game in how it does bosses and balance, and despite the open world being one that is more enjoyable, I still wish it wasn't an open world game.

But I think you are talking about Soulsborne games in general and with that I'm not sure what you mean as you don't go into specifics. If it is technical in terms of performance and such then you won't find many people defending it because they just like the game. Like, the lack of ultrawide support and the stuttering and frame rate issues on PC aren't going to be defended by many. Now, they might turn a blind eye to it but that's about it.

Not sure what QoL stuff you would want, but I am probably against most if it tbh. Same thing with accessibility. Like, what Naughty Dog did with TLOU2 is impressive, but I wouldn't want any of that in a souls-like game. I mean, I totally shat on the people who used cheat engine to slow down bosses in Sekiro and I don't think they beat the game. I am totally the kind of guy to go "Oh, so you didn't really beat the game."

I mean, I dislike/don't prefer the direction these games have been taking ever since BB. Every game keeps on getting faster, and Vigor/HP becomes the number 1 stat to level in a melee build. And it really started BB. BB added a new base layer to the FROMSOFT sauce that was great for BB (especially after DS2) but they never took it out for the rest of their titles. Like every game since as started with a healthy layer of Bloodborne sauce.

For the technical stuff, from what I’ve seen they don’t defend it, just pretend it doesn’t exist and has “no issues for them”. Even though that’s not really possible besides running the ps4 version on ps5 because the game inherently runs bad on all native versions. Which, I consider to be a technical failure. I definitely think people willing to give a pass to From is responsible for that still being a problem for them despite having long had enough success to hire some top tier programmers.

I agree with that. People like to turn a blind eye to it because the game is impressive in many other aspects. Like, I do get it. Elden Ring is a very impressive game. Like, even I want to ignore its short cummings at times. But despite how amazing ER can be, it really doesn't deserve a 10/10 like many others claim. The only way to give this a 10/10 is to ignore its obvious flaws. Like, yeah, my GF hits me from time to time but the sex is amazing! Totally worth it...

Yeah that’s all I mean. I’m 40 hours in and Im still planning to keep playing basically all month long to beat it, I like the game, but I can’t even imagine how exhausting it would be to actually try to argue critically about it on the internet, especially if you don’t at least preface it with tons of praise.

As our resident Dark Eldar player that relationship would be a 10/10 for me.

Game is still easily a 10/10 for me.  I'm playing on Series X and while I've noticed frame drops, especially more so in some late game areas, it hasn't been enough to affect my enjoyment of the game, and I don't think I'd knock a game for simple performance issues unless it's egregious.  Bug are a different story, but I've experienced almost no bugs at all in my 130+ hours with the game, which is quite a feat when you compare it to most open world games.

Balance and difficulty I've shared my thoughts on.  You can make the game as easy or hard as you want, that's on us the players.  If you skip most side content and stick with story, the game will always be difficult.  If you do all side content and over level, it'll be easier.  If you use the best weapons, summons, spells, it'll be easier.  It's all choices us as players make, they gave us a sandbox of sorts to dictate our own experience.

And I haven't felt any time has been wasted really because everything I've done has been by choice.  Am I facing a really tough boss I've died to 30 times for an hour, but I'm too stubborn to move on and go level up more or do other stuff and come back, that's on me.  Thus far I've been pretty keen on moving on if I'm stuck at a boss too long and it's obvious I'm not making progress.  Most boss fights haven't taken me more than 20 minutes worth of attempts.

I must be in the last stretch of the game, and while my build I know is making the game harder than it probably should be, running 30 vigor/30 endurance/45 strength as a pure melee build in the late game areas, I'm loving the challenge of it all, so I haven't used a respec yet. I may need to soon as the spikes toward the end are definitely unforgiving and losing 100k+ runes repeatedly hurts my heart.

Not totally sure I'll do a New Game+ when I finish, I bought it on PC too and my try to run a Wretch build on there cause I have a few friends on PC I may want to PvP with later on.

There's a fun one in that courtyard area after the ginger dog in the Academy. I saw a sign on the ground that said, "Didn't expect bug" and I jumped up there and yeah looks like you could fall through the map maybe. I jumped back. :p

I've had plenty of bugs when it comes to dragons. I've had to reset their positioning many times due to them flying up or down a cliff and there is no way for the player to reach them before the game teleports them back to their starting position. And I've hand plenty of crashes. And there is at least one Stake of Marika that doesn't work and instead teleports you to the dungeon entrance. Arcane scaling is bugged and weapons don't scale off of it properly. Upgrading some weapons to +25 has a bug where the damage is worse than +24. Now that might just be a UI/Visual bug and the upgrade works as intended but I can't confirm any of that. I've been able to shoot enemy's through walls, as in the arrow pushes the enemy through a wall and I can't attack them. I saved and quit outside of a boss room and it teleported me to the entrance of the zone, 3 graces away, when I next loaded up my save. Very similar to an exploit speed runners use to teleport to an endgame zone.

Pretty much the same type of shit you get in every Souls game, really. Never a bug fiesta like a Bethesda title, but the same type of bugs that seem to always pop up in a From game are just as present in ER.

Same. I had a few frame drops, but no serious problems with the game. So far my experience has only been positive.

Not every single boss is incredible, but there are something like 85 bosses in all (and about a dozen reused, so 70~ or so.

Its definitely at the top of my all time list so far.

I was level 56 when I beat her.

Eeek, I’ll probably only be 7 levels up from there, hope that’s enough to cover the skill gap.

And I think what grinds my gears about their technical issues is it’s such self forced errors. It’s not like they are reaching for the moon technically and as such their best effort has a lot of cracks. It’s just they need someone in the company to look at the game and be like “hey what if we had an option that locked the game into a hz at or divisible by the native hz supported by 99.9% of tvs?” for consoles or “hey what if we had an option to precompile the shaders when launching the game?” for pc. I don’t know why nobody is there to tell them these things, but I think part of it goes with it being critic proof.

Weird.

Im on PS5, not PC, but I haven't had a single crash or any real problems. My son has apparently had a good experience on Xbox as well, though he said he has had framerate drops.

Same, I’m on PS5 and I’ve had zero issues whatsoever outside of the occasional rag doll silliness.

The bugs I have had are crashes, getting stuck and dying sometimes, and getting stuck/dying when the game fails to spawn torrent. The torrent not spawning seems to have been fixed.

Stuttering exists still if I am running around on Torrent (actually sprinting) it seems to be nonexistant when I played at 1440p but exists at 4K.
