"Tucker will not be silenced by anyone," his lawyers said in a statement.

Fox is continuing to pay Carlson, and maintains that his contract keeps his content exclusive to Fox through Dec. 31, 2024.

Carlson is making a First Amendment argument for posting on Twitter, and asserts that Fox has committed material breaches of his contract.

What Fox supposedly has here is not a non-compete though. They are just saying he remains employed under the terms of the contract, and that contract disallows producing content anywhere but Fox.

Yup - he hasn't actually been "fired" by Fox at all, he's only just not on the broadcast schedule.

I'm surprised they care so much about a Twitter show. I understand keeping him under contract so he doesn't take his audience to NewsMax or whatever, but Twitter is hardly a threat. Not that I'll shed a tear for anyone in this situation.

I'm guessing that not enforcing the contract against him doing a show on Twitter harms their ability to enforce it if he tries to go to NewsMax.

Ah, that’s very different then. I thought he was terminated and they already paid out the remainder/early termination fee for some reason.

It's thesame scheme the WWE used for years for their wrestler's they've released. Keep them on ice for months and still pay out their contract so they can't go anywhere else.

WWE is a bit different: they’re not employees. Since they’re independent contractors it’s believed that if one of them would try to fight the 90-day clause that they’d win. None have bothered to try, though.

Fitting—he is the political equivalent of a WWE character.  (If a WWE character were to gain such a huge following of fans taking his antics seriously that it had malignant effects on society)

If Trump is convicted this will qualify as a beautifully metaphorical gif. (Ref=legal system, arena=world stage)

Not sure what the meaning of the wrestler in the background would be though…

The metaphor goes deeper than that since the Ref IS the wrestler  :o
