Spoiler

8Bit/Digi - Stan Rezaee - 10 / 10

Separate Ways DLC successfully recreates one of the best companion pieces while also bringing back some of the series defining elements. Fans will be delighted to once again take on the role of Ada Wong and work behind the scenes.

GamingTrend - Henry Viola - 100 / 100

The Resident Evil 4 remake Separate Ways expansion is a flawless DLC, and serves as a valuable and engaging conclusion to the Las Plagas saga. Capcom has done the entire remake of Resident Evil 4 right from top to bottom. Stepping into Ada's high heels and grappling from rooftop to rooftop feels exhilarating and refreshing as we get to peek into her side of the story. Now I want a full game with just Ada alone! After all, who doesn't love her?

God is a Geek - Lyle Carr - 10 / 10

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways is the perfect excuse for you to boot up the game again, with over 5 hours of sublime content from Ada's POV.

Niche Gamer - Fingal Belmont - 10 / 10

Separate Ways is a welcomed and excellent addition to one of the best games of 2023. While it is too bad that it couldn’t have been a part of the package back when the core game was released, the wait has been worth it. Separate Ways is easily some of the best material that Capcom has produced since the real Resident Evil 4 and outclasses the original Separate Ways.

ElderPlayers - Ali Mohammed Al Hajri - Arabic - 9.5 / 10

The DLC Separate Ways is not an addition to complement the beauty of the remake. because On the contrary, the game was complete before, and this DLC added a lot and emphasized the perfection that Capcom provided in the remake. A DLC full of details and wonderful encounters, with very beautiful music, and an extension of the splendor of game design that was introduced in the remake, and it is certainly the best DLC that Capcom has produced in the history of the Resident Evil franchise.

Pixel Arts - Danial Dehghani - Persian - 9.5 / 10

Separate Ways DLC sets a new standard for downloadable content, standing out as one of the finest offerings in recent years. With an impressive gameplay duration of around 3.5 hours, impeccable craftsmanship, and a faithful preservation of the elements that made the original game a classic, it's a compelling addition. What seals the deal is the incredibly affordable price of just $10. In conclusion, Separate Ways is an essential experience for all Resident Evil 4 Remake owners, earning it a well-deserved spot in gaming excellence.

Gamefa - Mehdi Reazaei - Persian - 9.2 / 10

Separate Ways is an incredible additional content that proves even DLCs could be released in decent condition. considering its 10 Dollars price tag, the quality and quantity of the content you receive is amazing.

The Games Machine - Daniele Cucchiarelli - Italian - 9.1 / 10

A superb DLC that remains on the same, excellent level as the Resident Evil 4 remake. In terms of gameplay, Ada's adventure mixes elements that often speed up the pace a bit with others that fit perfectly with the espionage nature of the protagonist. Narratively speaking, Separate Ways expands on the original story and reveals new details that will delight hardcore Resident Evil fans.

Atomix - Aldo López - Spanish - 90 / 100

If Resident Evil 4 is a crown, Separate Ways is the jewel that complements it, and thus we can close this arc that will probably lead us to a new version of the fifth main game of this franchise.

CGMagazine - Zubi Khan - 9 / 10

If Resident Evil 4 struck the perfect balance between survival horror and AAA action, Separate Ways cranks the lever to full-on action, but in a way that compliments the base game and retains the spirit of Resident Evil.

Expansive - Laurie Jones - 9 / 10

Separate Ways is a well-designed piece of content that provides a non-stop, action-packed tour of what we’ve already played while adding in some clever ways to traverse familiar terrain, seeing it from alternative perspectives. Ada’s abilities only add to the experience, freshening up the core loop just enough to keep you interested but her story also dovetails brilliantly with what we’ve already played while setting things up for the future. Whatever that might be. Capcom have expertly weaved in previously cut content and even added in a few surprises that you may not catch on just one playthrough. While it doesn’t massively change the formula from the game you’ve already played and standard enemy variety – beyond bosses – isn’t overly different, it’s a healthy length with great variety and an essential component of the wider RE4 story that you simply must check out.

GGRecon - Kiera Mills - 4.5 / 5

The Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways DLC is a polished piece of fan service that delivers the promise of the original DLC, and more.

Game Rant - Dalton Cooper - 4.5 / 5

Nitpicks aside, Separate Ways is a mostly tremendous addition to the Resident Evil 4 remake and, along with The Mercenaries mode updates that were released for free, goes a long way in making the RE4 remake experience truly complete. Some may still not be happy that Separate Ways is a $9.99 DLC instead of being packed-in with the game like it was in the post-GameCube versions of the original Resident Evil 4, but this version of Separate Ways is a fundamentally different experience and one that surpasses its predecessor in every possible way.

GameMAG - Russian - 9 / 10

The relationships between the remake of Resident Evil 4 and the original game would be a subject of much heated discussions in the coming years. But if anything could be said about this new version of Separate Ways is that it's a major step up from its 2005 counterpart in pretty much every way.

Gameffine - Subhasish Das - 90 / 100

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways DLC surpasses its original counterpart in almost every regard by introducing a more cohesive and fleshed-out take on Ada’s side story. It leverages its linearity with its no-nonsense take on a bombastic campaign that not only compliments the events of Leon’s story but also hints at the series’ possible future paths. By introducing Ada’s grappling hook, it re-invents its combat and traversal in a non-tedious way but leaves little room for backtracking. It is easily the best downloadable content we’ve had in 2023.

IGN - Brendan Graeber - 9 / 10

Separate Ways is a worthy counterpart to Resident Evil 4's fantastic story, providing an excellent remix of both new and familiar locations, and its breakneck pace of pitting you against excellent adversaries never leaves room for a dull moment.

IGN Italy - Alessandra Borgonovo - Italian - 9 / 10

An excellent DLC, which takes the original content and reworks it for greater overall cohesion, embellishing everything with mechanics tailored for Ada.

Metro GameCentral - GameCentral - 9 / 10

A very welcome slice of DLC that is just as enjoyable as the main game and helps flesh out a fan favourite character with their own unique abilities and agenda.

MonsterVine - Spencer Legacy - 4.5 / 5

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways is an all-around excellent piece of DLC that gives the main story of this year’s remake additional context while also just being a blast to play through. A lot of the areas are certainly familiar, but the length and gameplay make Separate Ways a strong companion piece to Resident Evil 4.

PSX Brasil - Ivan Nikolai Barkow Castilho - Portuguese - 90 / 100

Separate Ways is a great expansion, bringing an additional campaign to one of the best titles of 2023. In addition to completely reinventing what existed at the time of the PS2, the DLC brings novelties to the gameplay and manages to deliver a complete package when we take into account the base game as well.

The Outerhaven Productions - Karl Smart - 4.5 / 5

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways should be shown to all developers as to how to do DLC going forward. Not only do we get a great campaign that almost rivals the main game, but it’s done at a cheap/affordable price point. The story of Ada gives us some more questions as to what is going on with the future of the Resident Evil remake franchise while keeping its own story relevant and interesting.

TheSixthAxis - Steve C - 9 / 10

Separate Ways is a fantastic addition to Resident Evil 4 Remake and really cements its place as one of the series' best. Add in some unexpected nods to wider aspects of Resident Evil lore and you have a DLC that works both as extra content to the main game and wider fan service too. If you enjoyed the RE4 Remake then this DLC is pretty much an essential purchase.

Use a Potion - 9 / 10

Separate Ways adds its own unique spin to the excellent Resident Evil 4 Remake, with Ada having some cool tricks up her sleeve that make her a treat to play as. Of course, seeing the story play out from a different perspective is intriguing too, whilst the new additions ensure players will be kept on their toes as they re-visit the world of Resident Evil 4 once more. It’s another hit for the Resident Evil series and will keep players even more excited to see where the series will go next.

COGconnected - Jaz Sagoo - 88 / 100

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways is exactly what fans wanted from the Ada Wong-focused story. It improves on the original, giving more depth to the protagonist’s character and progressing her narrative. The acrobatics of the special agent opens up new gameplay options which allows the heroine to latch on to ledges and superkick enemies. While you don’t have complete freedom with the grapple gun and the runtime is short, there are no wasted moments which makes Separate Ways a joy from start to finish.

Hobby Consolas - Daniel Quesada - Spanish - 87 / 100

Although it has its foundations laid on something we've already experienced, Separate Ways finds its own way (ahem) with bombproof storytelling and pacing. It is an example of complete, intense and well-designed DLC.

Destructoid - Chris Carter - 8.5 / 10

I’m just as shocked as you are that Separate Ways ended up being great, but when you really think about it, there was no other realistic outcome. The Resident Evil 4 remake is so good that Capcom really could have rested on its laurels and developed a cheap DLC that would have been fine at worst, but they put the work in.

Press Start - James Berich - 8.5 / 10

While the bar wasn't that high to begin with, Separate Ways is far and away the best piece of DLC ever released for a Resident Evil game. It manages to succesfully build on top of the already rock solid experience that Resident Evil 4 provides to offer up the spotlight that series super spy Ada Wong has always deserved. With a heady mix of horror, action and even espionage, Separate Ways' incredibly modest price of admission makes it a no brainer. It's an absolute achievement from the development team and not to be missed.

Fun Factor - Diogo Arez - Portuguese - 8 / 10

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways is a fun expansion, having us control Ada and her numerous gadgets, that also comes at a reduced price, making it an easy recommendation for those who want more RE4.

Push Square - Liam Croft - 8 / 10

Separate Ways is about as good a DLC of this size can get, filling in narrative gaps and expertly tweaking a sublime gameplay loop. Playing as Ada Wong feels different enough thanks to new gadgets and weapons, while expanded areas provide fresh scenery for a second visit. A sense of disjointedness frays the edges, but Resident Evil 4 feels whole with Separate Ways by its side. A worthy expansion for one of 2023's greatest titles.

Saudi Gamer - Arabic - 8 / 10

This add-on provides most of the thrills of the main campaign in a condensed form, thus possibly being the preferred way to play part 4.

VGChartz - Evan Norris - 8 / 10

An outstanding addition to the RE canon and an ideal complementary piece to the remake of Resident Evil 4.

VideoGamer - Ben Borthwick - 8 / 10

While Separate Ways plays it very safely, it is an easy recommendation for those who want some more Resident Evil 4 Remake in their lives.

Gameblog - _SutterCane - French - 7 / 10

Like Resident Evil 4 Remake, the new version of Separate Ways is way than the original thanks to its atmosphere, revisited parts that weren't in the game and of course, Ada. There aren't that many new features, and the IRIS mode is disappointed, but it's still a generous DLC that offers a different take on the story. Recommended for fans.

SECTOR.sk - Matúš Štrba - Slovak - 7 / 10

Actually, there are not many problems in the core itself. But after so many months and for a premium price, you would expect more. You'd expect more variety and longer gameplay. You'd expect more novelty in the gameplay. You'd expect new environments, new puzzles, new enemies, new weapons. But that's not here. All we got was the same stuff we got back in March.

Chicas Gamers - Álvaro Bustío - Spanish - Unscored

Resident Evil lovers will be lucky, seeing that Separate Ways is the perfect icing on the cake that Resident Evil 4 Remake needed. Completing the DLC can easily take 4-5 hours, which is not bad at all if we take into account that it costs €9.99 and the base game can easily be finished in 17-20 hours. Without a doubt, an essential DLC for every fan of the saga as well as anyone who wants to delve deeper into the history of Resident Evil 4. As a note, mention that in order to play Separate Ways you will need to be able to play the base game.

Entertainium - Eduardo Rebouças - Loved

Separate Ways is a fantastic reinvention of what was already a neat idea turned into its own thing, with its unique flavor and highly engaging approach to changing the core gameplay that was played up to current day, post Resident Evil 2 Remake standards. Capcom’s been on a run with their games lately and this is no exception. Yeah, it’s still a bit of a bummer that it’s paid DLC, but it’s one that is well worth getting as it’s well above average among similar expansions to other notable games.

PlayStation LifeStyle - Michael Leri - Unscored

Separate Ways is no longer a superfluous extra because of all of these astute changes. With its focus on replayability, upgrades, and unique encounters, this expansion more deeply understands what makes Resident Evil 4 Resident Evil 4 and has all the unpredictability of the remake. But unlike the remake, Capcom couldn't just maintain the essence of what was already there because the original Separate Ways was so underwhelming. Instead, it deftly rebuilt Ada's side story and turned it into an integral part of the Resident Evil 4 remake.

Spaziogames - Domenico Musicò - Italian - Unscored

Separate Ways is the best Resident Evil DLC to date: better than the original, with new gameplay features, bigger and with a lot of new story details.

I think I'm on the final or second to final chapter. It's a hefty little bit of content but it's also almost entirely reused assets. I mean, DLC usually is, but "play the same exact game but shorter and in sort of reverse order" hasn't been terribly exciting so far. You get Ada's grappling hook but it has very limited interaction points rather than just being "any walkable surface above you," which could've been a super-fun game changer.

Gonna beat it later today and see if you unlock any goodies afterwards. I never played the original Separate Ways as it wasn't part of the Gamecube version and I've avoided all media for this one, so I honestly have no clue.

The original Separate Ways plays out much the same way as you described. I haven't played it yet but based on the reporting it sounds like this improves on the original at least. I think it's a fun side story but I wouldn't expect too much out of it.

Like with Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty; I finally got around to playing RE4: Separate ways after playing and beating the base game back when it released. The remake games' buttery smooth and punchy combat and gunplay is so good that just dropping back in and doing Ada Wong's story was a lot of fun. This is, obviously, a lot shorter and very action-oriented right from the get go - I appreciated that, like the original Separate Ways, this wastes no time just getting going and never really letting off the throttle for a breather. Graphics were beautiful, as was to be expected as well, and the story fits in neatly to line up with the base game. It was fun seeing what the characters over the radio were actually doing when they were talking to Leon. This felt like a really slick, respectful remake of the original Separate Ways, same as the base game, and I'm really glad this didn't become cut content. Anyone who enjoyed any of the RE remakes should play this.

The only downside was that Ada Wong's English voice actor sounded incredibly bored/stiff. I know the chud's have come out against the voice actor for other reasons but ignoring all of that and just judging the performance, it just sounds kind of bored a lot of the time. I know the character is nonchalant but I just wasn't impressed. The rest of the dub was good/normal though.

Beats out RE2 by 600,000 copies - Last year's Resident Evil 4 remake now has the honour of being the series' fastest-selli...

Last year's Resident Evil 4 remake now has the honour of being the series' fastest-selling game in history as Capcom confirms it's sold 6.48 million copies as of 31st December 2023. It pretty comfortably beat the previous record set by Resident Evil 2 (the PS5, PS4 remake), which sold 5.8 million units in the same timeframe.

The last reported sales update for Resident Evil 4 put the horror game at 5.4 million units come the end of September 2023, meaning another one million copies have been sold in the three months since then.
