I just now got what “green bubble” even meant but lol guess it is a thing amongst some crowds then. I guess I’ve probably had more conversations with tech people who try to sell me on the virtues of Android unprompted. I’m assuming the “green bubble” thing is more around like just elitists pricks that care about status or something and I don’t hang out with many of those. I’m willing to accept that fans of both are awful!

Green bubbles just means you have to pay for the text and blue means it's free.

I don't get the bubble thing still. Who has the bubble? Apple or Android? Is that the floating chat heads? I disable that shit, gets in the way of other UI. If I want to text i'll use the texting app

Like your text messages. If it’s iPhone to iPhone, the message is in a blue bubble because it’s iMessage. If it’s any other combo, it’s a green bubble. iMessage really id amazing.

I hate iMessage so much. It's a fine product, but I hate the idea of tying a fundamental communication tool to a specific device vendor. I've switched between iPhones, Androids, and even had a Windows Phone or two for a bit, and no matter what I used, my communications tools came with me. I didn't need an Apple specific Email account or a Google specific SMS client. That's why I'll never turn iMessage back on. Once you turn it on, you're locking yourself to a specific vendor and it's such a freaking pain to get away from, plus, there will always be people that moan about green bubbles.

Apple could so easily have become a big part of RCS, or they could even release iMessage on Android, but the lock-in factor in the US is so freaking high they'll actively make their product worse to maintain that.

Makes me nostalgic for the days of jabber. An open, IP based protocol for communication. It's such a shame that we gave that up for WhatsApp, iMessage, and Facebook Chat.

I definitely look down on green bubble people. Hate it when I have to make a text group, get three or four in an it is still blue, then some combo-breaker comes along and it turns green. Gross.

Changing the lock screen clock to a 2x2 block of giant numbers that kind of looks like it's a date instead of a time and then making that non-customizable is absolutely baffling to me. I hate it.

If you plug something into the USB C port it should become a small clock in the top left. I noticed that sometimes it wasn't the big 2x2 and this morning I used my headphones (with the USB C adapter) and the clock was small. At first I though it was having apps open but it seems it's using the USB port, even just the adapter with no headphones. If you plug something in while the screen is off it will still have the jumbo clock but unlock and relock and it will have a sane clock until you lock after unplugging whatever is plugged in. The workaround isn't all that practical but maybe they'll fix the clock eventually.
