I started to type out a big long rant about my job and that we are understaffed for idiotic reasons, but y’all don’t need that. For now I’m sticking around hoping that things will turn around (I keep hearing rumors that changes are finally coming), but if they don’t, I can take my newly acquired skills and shop them around town for a place that might give a shit about retaining good workers.

Movies Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Nightmare Alley’ - Official Trailer
TheLeon replied to SimpleG's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
This is a weird movie that, on my first impression, I think is bad. I don’t know if it’s just that my expectations were off because I only saw the first teaser, and so I was expecting more carnival. That was what I enjoyed the most, when the story moved beyond that I got a lot less interested, and there was still a lot of movie left. -
General Gaming What are you playing today?

Finished the Halo Infinite campaign, then I dug through my Game Pass games to find something I could play through quickly. I picked Superliminal, which I ended up playing through in just a few hours. Good game, though it walks a fine line between clever and annoying. -
I still haven’t been able to get my hands on new GPU without spending a couple month’s rent. I want to get one for retail price, just one month’s rent!

I’ve watched the first 4 episodes. It’s a beautiful, very well made show. The timing of it is fascinating- they filmed the first episode in Jan 2020, then it was put on hold for a year. I imagine returning to production on any move/show during the pandemic would be a surreal experience, but this had be especially bizarre.

Movies Licorice Pizza - Paul Thomas Anderson

Saw this two days ago, and I’m still riding that high. What a blast. Full of great little touches. It is kinda hard to talk about this movie in a cohesive way, because it’s so loosely structured. But it flows so well, everything just works. Love that he just went ahead and threw in the entire Haim family. -

Beat Saber and Superhot are two obvious picks. -
Movies Don't Look Up - Adam McKay makes Armageddon a Comedy

There's a solid 14 minutes of credits, but still, the movie feels long. And yeah, light on the laughs. Considering the talent involved, it's wild that this this movie doesn't make any kind of impact. -
Movies Movies that you love but will never watch again

These two Jesuit priests are sent to find their mentor in 17th century Japan, where Christianity is, um, frowned upon. It's not the gnarliest movie I've ever seen, but it's definitely a tough hang. It's fantastic, and it made me think a lot about Faith (and how I never really had any), but I'm having a hard time imagining the scenario where I ever watch it again.
