I'm probably skipping the XBox this Gen. For games that feel better with mouse & keyboard (almost all shooters, MOBAs, etc.) I have my PC. For everything else, most of my console gaming is Switch and PS and I don't see that changing anytime soon. The XBox was always the kiddie system in my house and now my kids are older and one is basically out of the house so....yeah this will probably be the first gen in a long time I don't bother buying one. Writing this now, I'm not even sure if my XBone is plugged in right now. Of the options I selected Switch, but really it will likely be what I have now; a mostly even balance between Switch and PS5, with PC thrown in for specific types of games.

One of each for me, then I bought a PS4 for my son as a going-away-to-college gift.

Not counting PCs, the first traditional home console I remember playing was probably the Atari 2600. The first console I purchased for myself was a used Genesis. The first console I purchased new was an N64.

Picked this up at PAXU after reading all the great press it had gotten and sat down with it for the first time tonight. Short review: It's great and you should play this game. Longer review: The first thing that jumped out at me was the production value. Holy shit, it's impressive. From the high quality paper stock used for the rulebook to the card art and the token materials, they didn't cut any corners here. It's all very well made with attention to detail. The included bird feeder dice tower is cool. They even took ease of setup and cleanup into account when designing the trays and containers. I wish every publisher would put this much thought into the presentation of their games. The art is great and the cards and boards are easy to read and make learning the game intuitive. The card abilities are very straightforward with no janky tech or proprietary terminology to confuse new players. Each card provides fun facts about its bird and there are no dupes. Play is quick. Your first game might take time but after that you are going to be finishing games in under an hour. It's an engine builder that plays out over 4 rounds. Random goals setup at the beginning of each game change your strategy and increase replayability. Different birds have powers that synergize with each other and with your basic available actions to let you build really satisfying engines to accumulate points. Easy to learn, but deep with satisfying big brain engine building. Replayability, great art, high production value, the works. The Kennerspiel des Jahres is well earned with this one. Easily the best game I picked up at PAXU and possibly the best new game I played all year.

I wonder if this is restructuring due to over expansion or if this is legitimate crisis for the company.

Gotcha. The website isn't worded very well then. They make it sound like it's a monthly charge every month..which sounds like a subscription.

I skipped the Lite. I'd absolutely by an upgraded model and give my launch Switch to my kid.

Damn.

I see the same ads frequently. I've never known anyone who's done it though. It's always sounded cool and I've just never pulled the trigger. The subscription puts me off. Like, if I could buy it complete in box Legacy style I'd be all over it.

I'll second what Pikachu said and say don't miss the Nintendo World Store. The Ripley's Believe it or Not museum in Time's Square is really cool. Also I wouldn't send everyone there, but you specifically need to go check out VGNY (VideoGamesNewYork) while you're there. It's a retro-gamer nerdgasm; best retro vg shop you'll ever see.
