  1. Looks neat! I never played the original. I can't see myself owning this, but I'd absolutely give it a play if one of my pals had a copy.
  2. Possibly? I pay for the overall prize myself just because. I'd want to keep the main competition for the prize and title free to encourage the most potential players. Perhaps I'll consider running an optional, "side bet" that players can opt-in for if they so choose so there can be a side bet winner among those who opted-in, even if that winner isn't 1st overall at the end. The side bet might encourage some people who are "out of it" to keep fighting even if they have no shot at the title. Something to think about for next season!
  3. I'm no series aficionado or anything, but I did play and really enjoyed Ys: Origin. Was fun, paced well. Enough of a challenge in the late stages to scratch that itch for a tougher game, but not ridiculous. I'd absolutely play another Ys game. Origin was a good time.
  4. ## MORE MGT FUN FACTS ## - Get your entries in! No single week saw all 14 players in this year's competition make an entry before the deadline! - It's a long season and quitters never win: There were an average of 10.6 entries every week over the first 10 weeks of the MGT season and an average of only 7 entries per week for the last 10! - Ever wonder how I track the Feature Game win rate? Here ya go! Week 1: 0110010110111 Week 2: 10011000000 Week 3: 011111011111 Week 4: 10000000001 Week 5: 0100001110 Week 6: 00000011000 Week 7: 00100110000 Week 8: 100011101 Week 9: 1010100 Week 0: 11111000000 Week11: 000001000 Week12: 0111110 Week13: 11011101 Week14: 01000001 Week15: 010111 Week16: 001101 Week17: 00001 Week W: 10010011 Week D: 010011 Week C: 0011110 (0 is an incorrect bet on the Feature Game, 1 is a correct one) In binary the Feature Game results table above translates to, "e¼À}ø‡‚a©ð·PW42iž". So...yeah.
  5. You do! Also to answer your post from last week's thread; there were only 4 teams! Of course there's no Question 8! :P
  6. -= PRO-BOWL BYE WEEK =- This season marks the 9th running of the Mock Gambling Thread, going back to when I originally ran it on the IGN Football boards during the 2010-2011 season, and the 2nd year here on Day One Patch! The MGT was inspired by a similar competition run by the community on a St. Louis Rams fan message board that I fell in love with when I went there to talk smack ahead of a skins/Rams game. Had so much fun playing in it for a couple seasons that I thought it'd be fun to run it for my pals on IGN and now here. ## 2019-2020 MGT Season Fun Facts ## - Biggie was the first entrant for the 2019-2020 season! - Of the 14 competitors in this year's MGT, 6 different players have held the lead at one time or another. - Absolut_Surgen and Keyser_Soze both defended their leads an equal number of weeks in a row; taking 1st place and holding it for 3 weeks straight each! Underscores = wins?! - Why is the Question 8 bonus so valuable? In 20 weeks of the MGT there have been an equal number of chances to guess that week's rushing and receiving leaders. The rushing leader was only guessed correctly 6 times during the regular season and 7 more times after the playoffs had begun so the number of potential candidates had been severely truncated. The receiving leader was only guessed correctly 3 times all season. The bonus for getting both in the same week was never awarded! - Total winnings are DOWN overall at this point in the competition compared to last year. The '19-20 Leaderboard has amassed a total of $808,100 versus $1,605,350 at last year's Pro-Bowl Bye Week! - Asked 19 time to 14 players there were 266 chances to earn the Question #5 bonus by calling all 3 weekly pick'em games correctly! The bonus was only awarded 20 times! - There were a total of 176 bets placed on the Feature Game across the entire season and post-season! - Of the bets placed on the Feature Game across all competitors, we were collectively correct only 77 times for a 43.75% win rate! ################################## Have a restful Bye week, enjoy the Pro-Bowl, and rest your brains for the final week of the 2019-2020 MGT coming on 1/27!
  7. Absolut_Surgen hits the gas and furthers his lead on the pack. His lead is impressive, but not insurmountable as he has a couple of contenders still within striking distance. With only one chance left to earn money can he hang on for one more week or is there an upset in the making? ########## DIVISIONAL ROUND RESULTS ########## Feature Game: Tennessee Titans (+7.5) at Kansas City Chiefs The Chiefs beat the Titans by a score of 35-31.5(24+7.5) to beat the spread and move on to Super Bowl LIV! QUESTIONS 1) What will be the first scoring play of the AFC Championship? Titans TD, Titans FG, Titans safety, Chiefs TD, Chiefs FG, Chiefs safety, or other? ($10,000 for the correct call) The scoring was kicked off by a 30 yard Tennessee field goal in the quarter as the Titans jumped out to an early 10 point lead; a lead that would not stand. Keyser_Soze was the only player to get this one correct. 2) What will be the first scoring play of the NFC Championship? Packers TD, Packers FG, Packers safety, 49'ers TD, 49'ers FG, 49'ers safety, or other? ($10,000 for the correct call) Raheem Mostert take advantage of a hole opened on the left side of his line to crack off a 36 yard run for a touchdown and the first points of the NFC champsionship. 3) Which conference will put up more combined points this weekend? ($10,000 for the right guess) In a close match, the AFC just edges out the NFC by a combined 59-57. 4) How many touchdowns will occur from outside the Red Zone (>20 yards) this weekend? ($15,000 for the right number) 5 touchdowns were scored from outside of the Red Zone across both championship games. Nobody called this one. 5) Call the winner: Green Bay at San Francisco ($10,000 the correct team) Saaaaaaan Francisco wins the day and goes back to their first Super Bowl since 2012. ######### LEADERBOARD ######### @AbsolutSurgen - $268,000 @thewhyteboar - $186,850 @Keyser_Soze - $120,000 @Biggie - $90,950 @Dodger - $57,200 @Greatoneshere - $19,000 Slug - $17,000 @BasemntDweller2 - $10,000 @Jose - $13,100 @RedSoxFan9 - $12,800 @Alpha1Cowboy - $5,300 @SFLUFAN - $3,900 @johnny - $2,500 @Kal-El814 - $1,500 As always, if you think I mathed wrong let me know. ########## THE SEASON ######### Week 1 <-- See here for full rules if you're interested in joining the competition! 8. I'm probably skipping the XBox this Gen. For games that feel better with mouse & keyboard (almost all shooters, MOBAs, etc.) I have my PC. For everything else, most of my console gaming is Switch and PS and I don't see that changing anytime soon. The XBox was always the kiddie system in my house and now my kids are older and one is basically out of the house so....yeah this will probably be the first gen in a long time I don't bother buying one. Writing this now, I'm not even sure if my XBone is plugged in right now. Of the options I selected Switch, but really it will likely be what I have now; a mostly even balance between Switch and PS5, with PC thrown in for specific types of games.
  9. Man, I know it's just a Mii costume, but I know people that would mark out so hard for Altair in Smash.
  10. Oh, OK. I was like, "Shit, how did I miss this?". :P Edit: Also FWIW Tokyo Mirage Sesh #FE was actually pretty dang fun.
  11. Edit: Boo. I love FE, but we have enough FE in Smash already.

  13. Hitting the Feature Game bet and doing very well in the questions has let AbsolutSurgen extend his lead and give himself a little more breathing room. With only 2 weeks to go will anyone be able to knock him off his perch or will he take home the title and the prize? ########## DIVISIONAL ROUND RESULTS ########## Feature Game: Seattle Seahawks (+4.5) at Green Bay Packers The Pack just edged out the Seahawks by a score of 27.5(23+4.5)-28 to move on to the Conference Championship. Bets on Green Bay win. QUESTIONS 1) What will be the first scoring play of the Feature Game? Seahawks TD, Seahawks FG, Seahawks safety, Packers TD, Packers FG, Packers safety, or other? ($5,000 for the correct call) Aaron Rodgers hucked a 20 yarder to Adams for a touchdown to start off the scoring in this one. Calls on GB TD get it. AbsolutSurgen and Biggie were the only players to call this. 2) Which team in the Feature Game will have the most time of posession? ($4,000 for the right number) In one of the most dead even games of the year, in terms of ToP, Seattle had the ball for just 1:02 more than Green Bay, holding the ball for 30:31. 3) How many missed field goals (not PATs) do we see this weekend? ($7,000 for the correct number) 2 field goals were missed over Divisional weekend, including one that would've flipped the Feature Game. Keyser_Soze and Slug were the only players to guess this one correctly. 4) Houston @ Kansas City: Over or Under 48.5 points? ($4,000 for the right guess) Over. Way over. The Chefs and Texans go off for 82 combined points. 5) Call the winners: Minnesota at San Francisco Tennessee at Baltimore Houston at Kansas City ($4,000 for EACH correct named game winner, $8,000 bonus if you call all 3 correctly) Several people got one or two right, but nobody got all three as every player called on Baltimore to win. 6) Name the player who will rush for the most yards AND the player that will have the most receiving yards in the Divisional Round. ($10,000 for each player named correctly, $15,000 bonus if both names are called) Derrick Henry (shock of shocks) led all rushers this weekend with 195 yards, while Davante Adams took in 160 through the air to lead the field of receivers. AbsolutSurgen and thewhyteboar called Henry while Keyser_Soze called Adams. Nobody called both for the bonus. ######### LEADERBOARD ######### @AbsolutSurgen - $198,000 @thewhyteboar - $136,850 @Keyser_Soze - $123,000 Slug - $57,000 @Biggie - $40,950 @BasemntDweller2 - $30,000 @Greatoneshere - $19,000 @Dodger - $18,600 @Jose- $13,100 @RedSoxFan9 - $12,800 @Alpha1Cowboy - $5,300 @SFLUFAN - $3,900 @johnny - $2,500 @Kal-El814 - $1,500 As always, if you think I mathed wrong let me know. ########## THE SEASON ######### Week 1 <-- See here for full rules if you're interested in joining the competition! 14. "A graceful tale of human connecti.." I'm out!
  15. One of each for me, then I bought a PS4 for my son as a going-away-to-college gift.
  16. Not counting PCs, the first traditional home console I remember playing was probably the Atari 2600. The first console I purchased for myself was a used Genesis. The first console I purchased new was an N64.
  17. Yeah this was my initial thought too. "a 1-point play from the 2-yard line, a 2-point play from the 3-yard line". I can't imagine it ever being a better idea going for 1.
  18. THURSDAY BUMP! Deadline is Saturday; get your entries in! Only 3 weeks left in the competition!

Picked this up at PAXU after reading all the great press it had gotten and sat down with it for the first time tonight. Short review: It's great and you should play this game. Longer review: The first thing that jumped out at me was the production value. Holy shit, it's impressive. From the high quality paper stock used for the rulebook to the card art and the token materials, they didn't cut any corners here. It's all very well made with attention to detail. The included bird feeder dice tower is cool. They even took ease of setup and cleanup into account when designing the trays and containers. I wish every publisher would put this much thought into the presentation of their games. The art is great and the cards and boards are easy to read and make learning the game intuitive. The card abilities are very straightforward with no janky tech or proprietary terminology to confuse new players. Each card provides fun facts about its bird and there are no dupes. Play is quick. Your first game might take time but after that you are going to be finishing games in under an hour. It's an engine builder that plays out over 4 rounds. Random goals setup at the beginning of each game change your strategy and increase replayability. Different birds have powers that synergize with each other and with your basic available actions to let you build really satisfying engines to accumulate points. Easy to learn, but deep with satisfying big brain engine building. Replayability, great art, high production value, the works. The Kennerspiel des Jahres is well earned with this one. Easily the best game I picked up at PAXU and possibly the best new game I played all year.
  20. I wonder if this is restructuring due to over expansion or if this is legitimate crisis for the company.
